There’s been an epidemic spreading across the limited numbers of Halo: Reach players. Not any other Halo game does this happen on…which is ridiculous, considering this was the first Halo game to really punish the people who did this.
Ya know what it is? Quitting matches early.
Now we all understand those times where there’s absolutely no way you can finish a game - your wifi goes down, you’re gonna be late for work, or your parents might kick you off. Perfectly understandable. But it’s a little too coincidental that in about 90% of matches, teammates start to quit the game when their team starts to lose. Those of you who do this, I can understand at a surface level why you do this, but I’m telling you, you really shouldn’t.
First off, there are plenty of people playing Reach who want to enjoy a fair game of 4v4 Slayer or what have you, and you’re ruining their experience and fun by putting them at a severe disadvantage. Even if you’re not having fun, maybe cos you’re losing, so what? Respect your fellow gamers, please. The chance that other players on your team will follow suit and quit increases with every member that does. One person sees their team is losing, so he quits. Another player notices this, and realizes their chances of winning are a lot slimmer. So they quit. Get the picture? Secondly, You also put YOURSELF at a disadvantage when quitting games. Besides the risk of being placed on probation and all that stuff, you will earn less credits by quitting. In your efforts to get the best looking stats that, at best, one to two people will care enough to see, you lose the credits awarded for simply finishing a match. Also, your chances of hitting a credit jackpot only get lower each time. And did you know that quitting a game counts as a loss? Oh no, your poor W/L ratio! No one gives a flying f[lood spore] about how well you’re doing in the game. But the vast majority of people do care about making the game a fun experience for everyone, which you are fighting against by leaving games.
Sorry about the poorly constructed rant, but this absolutely needs to stop. I’m pretty positive that this won’t make much of a difference, but if at least one person listens then I’ll be happy. The Reach population is low, so even a single player’s decisions can affect a large portion of it. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this.
Constructive post. Alas, I believe the target audience does not check anything concerning Halo waypoint… But, yeah… I just started getting back into Reach very recently. (Getting kind of tired with H5.) Very first match, it was about 25-10, 3 opposing team members quit. Then, at about 50-30, only 3 enemy team members remained. The team I was on had a full roster. I feel the pain man. This is an issue present throughout any multi-player enabled game.
Could also be from severe frustration due to connectivity and gameplay issues resulting in an unfair unplayable game… it doesn’t really bother me if I’m in the losing team (I find it a challenge actually), I just want good connectivity and a fair and equal game so I can have fun! It’s just not fun at all when none of your shots register but the oposing teams does… However I hear your frustration and wish whatever contributing factors didn’t interfere with the fun of the game.
I completely understand your rant. I just started getting back into reach since halo 5 has lost its luster and the multiplayer is slow to find matches at the moment. It’s really annoying playing a match and as soon as the opposing team gets ahead of our team, teammates automatically start quitting without even TRYING to fight back to get the upper hand. Most of the time I would end up on the team that most of its members quits, leaving me to fight the entire enemy team by myself. I hope this problem ends soon but I doubt halo waypoint will be the only solution to stopping it. We will need to spread the word to other players so they will understand how bad the experience is playing with players who interrupts a match by quiting halfway through.

I LOL’d.
These players don’t give two craps about your experience, my experience or even whether this game crashes and burns into a flaming dumpster fire. By definition, quitters are not concerned about how their actions will affect the team. If they were, they wouldn’t quit out like they do. It’s not that I fundamentally disagree with the spirit of this post but you aren’t gonna convince a single quitter by appealing to some sense of duty to the wider Halo community. Quitters have always been a problem for any online team based multiplayer game, and with how old this game is that problem will inevitably be even more pronounced. There are literally only two solutions that will ever be viable to this problem. You can either find a reliable squad to run with so you don’t have to worry about anyone quitting out on you, or you can get good enough that you are able to backpack the entire team by yourself regardless of whether your randoms stay or leave.
I only quit when the lag is out of control or other teammates have already quit making the match a waste of time.
I’m talking when it’s down to 4 vs. 2. You can still win a 3 on 4 with decent players, unless you’re playing a group that search together as a team.
A lot of people sign out as the map / gametype is being chosen because they simply don’t like the map. This is beyond frustrating as the game is not capable of sourcing an 8th player before the game starts.
I’ve made a thread about it before, but Team Slayer Boardwalk is an especially sore spot for me. People pick it all the time in the matchmaking screen, but the game never EVER finishes with all 8 players on that map.

Yeah, sure, I might make next to no difference whatsoever. But one good game is better than none.
I get that people quitting ruins the game, but sometimes I wish that some players do quit the game. in a game of BTB, I had close to 60 kills and less than a dozen deaths, (yes I was using the scorpion for most of that game) just to lose because about 5-6 of my teammates couldn’t get above 10 kills each and died constantly.

Heh, that’s a problem with the matchmaking system itself. Pretty frustrating being matched with players in a completely different league (better OR worse)

You have to understand that although that may just be their skill level and they may be doing their absolute best, and it could also be they have a very bad connection and are always a step behind the other team having to deal with lag etc… these are the constant issues that I face regulary (I’m sure many do) and I’m always giving my best…

While I’ve never had the pleasure of playing an online multiplayer game on Halo Reach, I understand how frustrating this can be to players. Thank-you for this.

I mean it’s always been a problem on reach…and literally every other halo game. I don’t know what you mean by only reach it’s literally a giant problem in halo 5. It was big in 3 too and super big on halo 2? It’ll always be a problem in any halo game and any game in general
Now, as an Offline player, I can’t fully understand your pain, but I get what you’re talking about. Unless it’s for real life reasons (something to do, can’t play anymore), I think that players should stay in their teams till the end. Even if they do, maybe Bungie could have made it so Bots would take their places.

Yeah, it always happens in any online video game, but in comparison to at least every other 360 Halo title, players quit in Reach around 40-60% more

I remember back in halo 2 it was rare to stay in a game with full players so idk man. But I will admit it’s super big on reach sadly there’s nothing we can do especially since the game is 7 years old

I know right? I still consider reach my favorite halo though
I only quit if the lag is extreme which, basically, never happens. But I haven’t been playing Reach, but now that I wanted to, when I search Invasion, one of the most pouplated gamemode in Reach, I just can’t find anyone. Or when I find someone it’s not enough for the game to start. Is it happening in other playlists?
