Here it is, all the proof we need that a mercy rule is a good idea: Scoreboard screenshot
Half my team quits early, we weren’t even too far down and eventually the rest leave, so its me vs a whole 8 man team on slayer… Yeah ok I don’t think I’ll be staying today guys. Hate to lose my bonus but it’s just not worth it.
I really don’t know why 343 doesn’t see these issues in testing, I guess its because they only test in perfect conditions or something, probably internal LAN connections…
I haven’t had it that bad, but I feel you pain. Games in Halo 5 are almost never close. I don’t know if this is because the ranking system is broken, or the maps are unbalanced, or what it is. Every game is a blowout for me. I either win a game of Slayer by 20 kills, or lose it by 20. The amount of Stronghold matches I’ve won and lost 100-0 is stupid. It almost feels like the games are decided in the first 5 minutes, and the rest of the game is just punishment. It’s not fun to win a game by double their points, or lose it. A mercy rule would be good, but really they just need to find a way to make it so that matches don’t end up being blowouts. Hopefully social playlist will fix some of these issues though. As soon as the casuals and the try-hards can play in their own space, allowing people to play more how they like, some of these issues should be solved. All I know is that as soon as social playlists come out, I’m never going to play ranked again.
I agree, this is a huge problem. There should be a ‘vote to end game’ button once a certain amount of people leave. Yesterday I was put into a match where it was 1v4 right from the beginning. I managed to go 17-22 so it wasn’t that bad. I also took this pretty kek screenshot.

The other thing is when you quit out and it’s tracked as a quit and potentially gets you banned/reported. I hid for 3 minutes waiting for any JIP and then left when they found me. Totally screwed up by 343 on this, at least in Destiny if you’re getting pounded it just ends the game.
Agree with OP. Mercy rule should kick in when a team is outnumbered by 2:1 or in any objective game-type where one team is objective holding for kills. Perhaps it could kick in if one team goes 150 kills ahead of the other and the team being killed is not ahead in terms of objective score? E.g if one team in a CTF game has 23 kills and the other has 173 mercy rule would kick in unless the team with 23 kills is ahead in terms of flag score.
