This is what is wrong with H4

Here is what the top ranks of the Halo 4 Top 200 Leaderboard like to do if they find themselves matching up against people that know how to play. They usually like to quit out to avoid de-ranking. Please fix this, for these players do not deserve the ranks they have attained. Here is a link to a game that I recently played. Gameplay to come in the next couple of days.

Correction: This is ONE of the things wrong with Halo 4.

Wait, so leaving a game has no negative impact on the person who is leaving? Has 343 said this?

Official statement from 343i is that quits count towards your CSR as losses. That said, though I haven’t done an enormous amount of research, I haven’t noticed anyone rank down after a DNF. I’m going to test this possible mistake by quitting every time I’m about to lose and see how my CSR reacts.

I did once.

You have a 31 in big team…I play against tryhards kids that can’t take going down in rank. I know what they’re doing…

I sincerely hope that quitting lowers CSR. I’ve been getting destroyed so badly in recent lopsided skill matchups that I’ve quit in the hopes it will automatically lower my CSR to get a better game.

Sorry to hear that man, we both love the game and have different skill levels yet cannot have fun playing matchmaking.

I would be surprised if quitting didn’t count as a loss. Surely 343i has implemented some kind of de-ranking for quitting these kind of matches.

Counting as a loss will not automatically result in a rank down. Here’s an example from a real top-200 player:

Team A CSR
25
45
19
19
Total: 108

Team B CSR
22
21
50
Total: 93

The system expects Team B to lose, since Team B has a smaller total CSR. Because a loss is expected, losing will not cause the members of Team B to downrank. So our 50 on Team B is free to quit, without penalty to CSR. And quit he did . . . without any penalty to his CSR.

Now, if the CSR 45 guy on Team A quit instead, downranking for him would be a possibility. The system expected his team to win.

The guys in the Top 200 with high quit percentages (some over 30%) seem to be well aware of this . . . or simply assure that their team will have the lower total CSR by playing with a guest (which lets them quit with impunity).

Not all of the Top 200 play that way. Some just play. Others might game the system a little; a few game the system a lot. Regardless, the players up there are all much better than I am.

After re-reading your post I decided that my previous one was irrelevant. I truly appreciate this explanation. Now that I have a little more understanding of this I can see how it is not necessarily a glitch, but just a part of how the system works. Now I get why I saw some individuals at the top always playing with one or two guests, but they obviously weren’t contributing much to the overall success of the player.

It still seems like an unfortunate system, but I finally understand also why they might not want in-game ranks. It’s almost -Yoink!- if you do and -Yoink!- if you don’t. Along the same lines as well, no matter what kind of ranking system they have I will more than likely rank in the middle or slightly below. I just wish there was a way to know my “True Skill” compared to others. I know I’m not amazing, but I know I have improved since Reach. I hope the ranking system is somewhat different in the next Halo.
