I know what you’re thinking: there is no such thing as a skillful automatic weapon. The weapon in question is not a traditional automatic weapon. It is a req variant of a weapon that has been around since Halo 2. If you haven’t already figured out which weapon I am talking about here it is:
The Rain of OblivionWhat makes this weapon more skillful than the other automatics? The general consensus is that precision weapons require more skill because the smaller reticles mean that each shot must hit in order to be effective. This weapons shares the same exact small reticle as its base weapon, the Carbine. That means there is no random spread; the shot will land in the small area inside of the reticle, unlike the other automatic weapons. And because there is no random spread, the headshot bonus is justified unlike the other automatic weapons.

I think it is the Assault Rifle, the Brute Plasma Rifle, and finally the Storm Rifle. If the assault rifle was easy to get kills with, people would ditch the Pistol/BR instead when they found a weapon. It is very difficult to get kills with it given the prevalence of precision weapons in Halo 5. The projectiles of the latter 2 travel far slower than Carbine rods, and are easier to dodge as well. That is why “skilled players” complain about hitscan. The Carbine variants also have several kills worth of ammo available in each magazine. The BPR is not very good aside from getting the beat down after 2 hits. I feel if you are going to try to out shoot someone with it, you generally need to be closer than any other automatic. The storm rifle has a highly impressive TTK but it is still difficult to approach people so that you can get within range and it still overheats fairly quickly. The carbine alone is such an animal and always has been, but when you make it automatic, it often becomes too easy. I mean the automatic one will net you a perfect kill in about a second and the range on it (maximum AND minimum effective range) is impressive.

The fact that automatics have been getting kicked off maps because players don’t like how prevalent they are goes vs your point. I can also look up people’s weapon stats and see the AR happens to be their #1 weapon in terms of kills, then there’s my own opinion that is in agreement that the AR needs fixed. Headshot multiplier? Can easily fire across maps like coliseum, empire, edan, etc etc.
The Covenant Plasma Rifle and Storm Rifle, I guess because of the over-heating, but the recoil control is what needs more skill, but still it’s not that hard.
The Rain of Oblivion may be the #1, but that is only for weapons that hold the headshot damage multipliers. Weapons like the Suppressor & Brute Plasma Rifle, (which do not have headshot multipliers, and have very slow kill times) require the most skill to use, and that is assuming you didn’t buff it’s damage or use it to pepper the enemy just enough for a quick melee/headshot kill.
Brute Plasma Rifle? That sucker overheats in 2 seconds, and requires extreme weapon discipline. Rain of Oblivion runs on a magazine, therefore, it’s not too hard to use. The Needler too, because enemies and players all seem to know to get out of the way, so timing your shots to have enough needles to blow them up is important.
I’d say the sentinel beam takes the most skill since it’s technically an auto weapon. Small reticule, average RRR range that I remember and it doesn’t seem to have a lot aim assist or magnetism.

Or like how I found out the M6D is automatic after finally reading the manual years later.

Oh lol I’ll definitely debate that. And I can give you a host of reasons why automatics might be getting kicked off of maps:
It tends to be easier to survive longer range gunfights.
“Skilled” players tend to like precision weapons because it’s easier to strafe back and fourth and pull the trigger than use controlled bursts or stealth/cover to close into a CQC battle where automatics shine.
They also like their killing sprees and like to assume that the person coming around the corner is armed with a BR.
And you can look up people’s stats but for every person who uses the AR the most, there are several people who use both the BR and the pistol more. That’s pretty crazy considering EVERY game type has an AR spawn coupled with one of those precision weapons. So in spite of it always being available, many people do not use it. People who do use it will often swap it out for an even more deadly CQC automatic like the Storm Rifle or the SMG so they can free up their second spot for a power weapon. And while the AR and BR seem to have a similar maximum range, it’s the effective range that largely defines any weapon.
