This is the most predatory monetisation scheme in a long time

Let’s face it. When it was announced multiplayer was gonna be free to play it should’ve been pretty obvious that the monetization of cosmetics wasn’t gonna be pretty. Unless you just really have to have everything like you can in MCC, you’re gonna have to decide if you really want the content of each season badly enough to drop $10 on them on a season by season basis. Personally I’m gonna wait for a season that’s got some armor set(s) that really catch my eye to buy one. The sets in this Reach season don’t do that for me, so I’m not gonna buy it.

You don’t have to buy the battle pass correct? i play it because i enjoy the game. i could give a -Yoink!- about the rewards. i assumed that was why everyone played was because they enjoyed the game not to get a helmet.

Seeing more and more posts about this makes it clear not to even touch in-game purchases again having these issues being a bit telling of how those behind the system would like to market things.

Furthermore, this forum system is full of bugs. Wow. Is all I can say about that, so many issues with my experience here.

Dude its like nobody even watched the devstreams. The limited events, including the samurai one are free! Also, you literally got 8 free items just for logging on. Also the game is free to play. And, they already said multiple times the progression wasn’t final and they will continue to tweak it, before the backlash. And again, its literally a beta, the game hasn’t fully released yet. Everybody has to relax they released it early and all you have to say are complaints.

cmon now, they knew what they were doing removing per-match XP and consolidating all progression to the battlepass.

I’m also blown away by this system. Even CoD gives more in a battlepass + you earn the price of the battle pass back. And SO MANY THINGS ARE MISSING in the battlepass! Emile’s right shoulder and Carter’s left shoulder to name just two.

The only thing Halo Infinite has going for it is that the battlepass doesn’t expire. But then again, a season takes 6 months (nov - may). Even with the slow and boring challanges system this is doable for pretty much everybody.

F2P is not an excuse, stop using it like one. Some of us like to look like spartans and not samurai, and if all the event armour is fractures then the only way is to spend cash or rock default.

Well when you could just have the helmets in previous games we didnt worry about it. People like to look cool in video games especially halo and now the only way to do that is to pay to -Yoink!-

Microsoft and i343 has already paid the artists and programmers their salary for the work on the items in the armor set.

After that, people buying it first cover the expenses Microsoft / i343 had for the creation of it. Then any excess they get after covering the costs doesn’t go to the artist apart from any potential small bonus compared to what the company gets.

Except digital distribution has significantly reduced costs and increased availability so all that is actually happening is an increase in publishers profits while you end up with an inferior product. Generally products are better over time to correlate with their cost increases. Infinite is an inferior Halo Reach.

Yeah it sucks but I don’t know how you can say this is “the most predatory monetization scheme” when we literally lived through the great lootbox era in which every game allowed users to spend hundreds of dollars every month on boxes…

I’ve played a lot of F2P games in my time, and this is one of the worst regarding its Battle Pass I have ever seen. Almost everything worth unlocking is paywalled behind the premium pass, and on top of that you’re incentivized to basically throw to level up your tracks.

I have never seen a game that touts its competitive multiplayer with so little incentive to actually win games.

This is horrible and exactly the kind of thing I was worried about. And, it’s bad enough that I’m deciding not to even buy the campaign which is already a hell of an asking price for it alone.

343, this is probably Halo’s last shot, and the ball has reached terminal velocity.

Oh boy, we traded one devil for another. This game isnt free for your sake, its to increase player count and player interaction, they want as many people downloading and looking at that store, justifying to themselves to buy an armour set, and then 343i has their money. Instead of spending hundreds on lootboxes i could earn i can now spend hundreds of dollars on what i wanted from the req pack with no caveat except that buying it is the only way to obtain it

Don’t mind me, just posting a comment to get this thread more traction.

That’s the nature of f2p games. Probably won’t drop a single extra dime on this game, aside from the Campaign.

They’re already paid and working on something else.
Microsoft has already given i343 a budget to work with.

And what about the rest of the game?
A single map contain far more 3D assets containing meshes and textures than that package contain, with far more people involved.
Using the package as a starting point, how much do you think a map would cost in comparison.

Heck, if we look about 13-14 years ago, for half the price of that package, you got three new multiplayer map.

i343 resurrected Picasso and Da Vinci to create those assets?

343 needs to learn and adapt Bungie’s Destiny 2 model. The Eververse store is great if you want more cosmetics. The season pass you can buy every few months is attainable and you can unlock everything.
If 343 did a BattlePass every 3-4 months and make it per match xp, they would make quite a bit of money. Then throw in a big paid story content at the end of next year? Halo Infinite has the capability to be huge and fun.
The gameplay is fantastic and fun, but not getting per match xp is awful. I literally told a teammate that we aren’t getting penalized by getting less xp for losing the game. And I caught myself after thinking, that I couldn’t believe I just said that, but unfortunately it’s true.

I couldn’t agree more really. 343 Industries NEEDS to fix this the way Dice fixed Star Wars Battlefront II. And they need to do it before the 8th of December.

Eververse is far from good, its still a plight on destiny 2 with all the content it locks away with silver, but being able to earn silver it what keeps it from being even worse, 343i needs to give us a way to earn credits

Well the game is quite literally free for everyone’s sake. Zero barrier to entry means bigger community. And who the hell cares if a player goes to a store and buys an armor set to look cool for a multiplayer mode that costs zero dollars? I also can’t believe that someone here is suggesting that literal gambling in a video game is a better alternative to just being able to buy what you want. The dumbest take.
