This is the most predatory monetisation scheme in a long time

Anthem was smothered in the cradle by bad progression, and a severe lack of content. Cosmetics weren’t really a factor in Anthem’s demise. The only reason why the plug ultimately ended up getting pulled for Anthem was that the game’s population hit rock bottom, and the fact that they would need to overhaul pretty much the entire game from the ground up.

Outside of that there was a glitch in which higher end drops were dropping at increased rates where the game saw a spike of popularity before plummeting once more immediately after they patched it. Simply put they played chicken right to the end.

I mean, for anyone who plays the campaign, the MP being “Free to play” has changed their investment into the game by $0. If anything, being free to play with a paid battlepass means the game is overall more expensive.

I bought Reach for $60 and had more customization, more game modes, co-op, forge, and assassinations. In Infinite I could spend $70 and still have less than that.

What? You mean… you don’t get everything handed to you for free in the middle of a free multiplayer beta? Oh Em Gee.

I bought $100 worth of the points, bought the battle pass, and one of the team bundles. Who cares? You want to play the FREE Multiplayer? Play. If you want cosmetics that in no way actually change your particular gameplay experience aside from being able to say ‘ohhh shiny’, pay for them. It’s simple. Now, if they wanted to change the amount of time to gain experience, cool. If they wanted to add in a way to gain experience as you play the game, complete achievements, or complete games, cool. Or if they added in a way to gain these points while completing challenges, or achievements, awesome. But you sitting here complaining as if the devs OWE you a customization experience just because you graced them with your presence in a free multiplayer beta… What the actual ~? You sound absolutely spoiled, and unappreciative of the time it took, the investment, and the sleepless nights filled with some sort of energy drink, to actually make this game. There can be tweaks, but it’s a freakin’ BETA. The game hasn’t even released and you sound like my 9 year old complaining that he can’t play minecraft while he’s in the shower. You attacking them for being a company who needs PROFIT to pay their employees? Come on now.

Keep up the good work 343i, I am behind you, and very happy with the game. We all know there can be a few tweaks, but I also understand that as a business you need to actually make a profit. Not everyone has to buy these items, and the time and effort you put into them needs to be paid for. Just tweak the experience gaining, and possibly the ability to gain some of the points while doing WELL in a game, not just joining and sitting there, and I’m sure this will be even more fantastic.

You hit the nail right on the head. In the past just about everyone had a melt down at Oblivion’s horse armor, yet here we are. They keep slowly pushing the goal posts on what they can away with, and whenever they get caught going too far they either hold their stance, or cave like Battlefront 2 EA did. The thing is even after they cave they will immediately return to pushing the goal posts once more. We now live in a world where 20$ - 60$ skins are okay, while in the past $20 - $60 could get you a few DLC, or you can just by a brand new game.

The problem is there are kids growing up knowing only 20$ - 60$ skins and these publishers know this. They know they can keep increasing prices, and selling their game in chunks at full price knowing that they’ll get away with it, because there will be a newer generations of kids that are increasingly more tolerant to their predatory practices. The industry is slowly but surely going to end up like the mobile games market.

Let me get this straight…

Inflation, rising cost of higher definition armor/investment of time, and the need to pay people more to entice them to work for you specifically… and you’re saying they cannot raise the price of the goods they are selling? Seriously? You obviously are not a manager, owner of a business, or anyone with fiscal sense in these matters. Everything is going up in cost here. Everything. The servers they are providing free. The work they did, and the EXTRA YEAR they spent on development. The people they hired, let work from home, etc.

You people complaining seriously have no idea what it requires to make what it is you’re looking at in front of you. It baffles me how the much people complain about what they are given for free, because it’s not what they want, exactly what they want. You can say ‘Hey, I think it would be better if ~’, because they actually asked you for that. To claim that them requesting enough money to be profitable, and make this a game they can continue to invest time, effort, resources, and money into is predatory? You have lost all the marbles.

Not to mention the inability to mix and match armors you have acquired as well as Colour Cores being totally restrictive of individuality.

Not everyone’s got expendable money like that bud maybe pay some actual Bill’s and you would see why most of us have an actual problem with this

And did any of us actually ask it to be free considering you buy halo for the story and get the rest in multiplayer sure inflation exists and they gotta make cash somehow but even ea isnt being this scummy they ask you to buy the battle pass once and give you the option to buy the extra characters and cosmetics but they dont ask you to pay for their guns attachments do they?!!!. well 343 is asking you to buy pretty much every customization from colors to armor pieces we could unlock for free in other halo games heck even 5 only asks for your time for certain armor pieces

It’s not a matter of selling us stuff, to earn our money, but HOW you do it.
The way 343 is doing it right now is simply unacceptable and predatory as OP mentioned.

How it could have been done :

  1. Make Challenges more universal, but the Ultimate Challenge for every week can be more “difficult”

  2. Increase more ways of gaining XP outside of challenges (End of Match XP for example, and performance score)

  3. F2P Season Pass having very little cosmetics are okay, because they are selling us a Premium one with the good stuff.

  4. Oh my god remove XP Boosters which are timed. Instead give us Challenge boosters that give a chunk of XP after completing a set amount of challenges. So instead of timing how many challenges we can complete within boost period, we activate this Booster and after we finish 10 of challenges, we get awarded with say, 5000 XP. This Booster should not be timed and will persist until you finish 10 challenges.

  5. Sell us Colour Palettes instead of Colour Cores. People will actually pay through the nose for a palette of interesting colours they can customize at their own preference instead of being forced to buy some weird combination. (or as some people say, a combination created with “market research”) If you price the Palettes properly, people will actually buy them and even if they only use 15% of it lol. Look at Warframe, they did this and people buy their colour palettes all the time. Learn from what works.

There is alot of things 343 can do to suck out the money from our wallets, so why do it in a way which make people upset in the process? Do it in a way which makes players feel good in the process instead.

Just so everyone knows; they lowered the prices at some point, between Monday and Wednesday, by $10. So if you spent money on Monday or Tuesday then you basically lost $10.

None of the prices have changed.

But if they had then people haven’t lost $10, that’s just how shops/sales work. Granted you don’t usually see something nosedive in price that quickly unless it’s Balan Wonderworld.

Fortnite is free, and you can get more stuff and you get xp by finishing matches, your argument has no sense, they are free games that have better progression .

Some of the prices did change. At the very least the 10,000 +1,500 that was originally $100 is now $89.99. I believe this is the case for the 5,000 +600 offer which was originally $55 and is now $44.99.

this discount is for game pass ultimate users, not all the community

Ah right, my mistake I thought you meant shop items not currency. Thanks for clarifying.

Ah thanks Skywalker. That makes sense.

do you know about the bunty reset token ? no? let me tell you, most bounties requires a game mode to get kills, some do not even track progress, others are blatantly impossible for most of the players - damage a player with grenade and right after kill him with a headshot,
the whole game is made just to force you to buy the bounty change tokens, its sick practice

This issue was brought up by some individuals that have the gamepass and were charged full price then. I have the game pass as well and was not offered this discounted price.

You need to contact MS support

Did they charge you anything extra for the bonus content on MCC? For how many years did they do that? I was being facetious when I mentioned that people are asking for it all for free, I figured with my sarcastic commentary to that, it would have been obvious, my apologies.

I get that you don’t have expendable money, but then maybe you shouldn’t be expecting their investment into making a profit be your way of saying ‘we don’t have money, let us have it for cheaper’ model. Either save up to buy it, or be happy with what you DO get for free. I bought the campaign, and paid for extra. That’s how they make money. I didn’t come here to complain that they don’t have enough cool orange colored items available. Did I? No. Because I get that they are appealing to the masses, not to me specifically. Even if I have been playing halo since the initial release of CE, and when I was 14. I am able to realize the entire world isn’t here to cater to me specifically, so I don’t feel the need to say “I WANT EVERYTHING I WANT MY WAY”. You people are the reason everyone is caving into ‘woke’ nonsense, and the reason why so many games failed. Because they don’t measure up to your insane quality standards of 'awesome to play, awesome to look at, but I only want to pay $5.". It’s ridiculous, and downright sad of the times we live in.

Eh, I ranted and honestly, I’m playing the game, enjoying the hell out of it. So pardon me, while I actually have fun.

Rofl, I have yet to use a bounty token, because I can actually play the game.
