This is the most predatory monetisation scheme in a long time

Just saying, I know. It’s just people like to leave out that even though the costs for whatever has gone up, so have the players that throw money at the screen gone up.

My concern is with the quality of the cosmetics. This game is a month old and they are already bringing out meme crap like cat ears and a significant portion of the non meme crap was base game armor from Reach. I assume they are going to bring back all former games’ armor but what about after? They’re gonna make everyone pay for armor they unlocked in other games already, they’re gonna run out of meme crap and we get new infinite armor when? Only when there is a fracture event and only if we wear said events armor with no mixing/matching with other sets?

Also tired of seeing the beta multiplayer release argument. Beta was supposed to be until the campaign launch only. What’s the next excuse? After coop drops? After forge? After they decide to add whatever else should have been included day one? At this rate infinite is gonna be a beta for Halo 7.

It’s so depressing playing mp and seeing these cringe Lords who have payed real money for some stupid faze clan skin or some armor that should just be in the game, hopefully it’s fixed but for now it’s like a physical effort to play and not cringe at the scammy lame systems that are Halo Infinites store and battle pass.

Yeah idk who thought pricing a few cosmetic items the same price as a full AAA game was correct, but I hope they find their way out of the gaming industry [quote=“Kabuskini, post:1, topic:15132, full:true”]
Armour sets are being sold for a third of the price of a game ($20), the battlepass contains no in game currency rewards meaning you’re going to have to spend money on each battlepass unlike the industry standard in which each completed BP pays for the next. Don’t even get me started on the progression system, it is designed to be as tedious as possible to encourage people to buy skips and boosts. The free items of any note (Armour pieces) are so few and far between they may as well be non existent. The first free helmet is at level 81. Level 81. At the current rate this will take literally hundreds of hours to unlock.

This is malicious, this was not an accident. 343 and Microsoft are intentionally making playing the game without paying as frustrating as possible. There needs to be a rework of the progression system. We need to be able to rank up from completing matches like in every other AAA game or we aren’t going to stick around and have 343 beg us to open our wallets. I havent seen anything so blatantly scummy since EA Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Yeah, other battle passes are so much better. You can even “make money” in a lot of games if you complete their entire passes. Buy one pass in Warzone, and you get all future ones plus in a year you can save up enough to get almost any bundle you like. I know, a year is a long, but it’s literally impossible with Infinite. Surprisingly because Activision used to set the bar for scummy tactics in my opinion.

You’re technically right, but I think you’re exaggerating the degree of difference. In 2007 the Halo 3 Heroic Map pack was like $10 for 3 full maps. Same thing with each Mythic Map Pack in 2009. Even adjusted for inflation that’s only about $12.96 in today’s money. $13-$15 now gets you what? A weapon skin and a PNG emblem? Also, wages have not been keeping pace with inflation, so the increase in game development costs is not as significant as you think. Even if you ignore how they cut costs by firing their employees every 18 months to avoid paying them benefits.

edit* I forgot to mention how the first Mythic Map pack could be bought for half price later on and the second Mythic Map Pack was included for free if you bought ODST.

lol you havent played any new games in the past few years have you? this is literally all of them.

Are you referring to the topic as a whole? If so yes every game has a battle pass but halo infinite is the only one who doesnt give back the premium currency needed to buy it plus on average other battle pass stores which have content outside of the battle pass dont charge over what youd make in an hour as charging 10 instead of 20 for something in store can lead to more people purchasing said item. Like cod for example I found out if you buy the cod points in one since they’re attached to your cod account they transfer between games and I think in recent years if you bought on games battle pass you could possibly get the sister games battle pass as well (not sure as I’ve only had the personal experience once) and it doesnt apply well to halo since this is halos first battle pass. But the main problem is the store price points and the lack of earning said premium currency for the next battle pass that comes the lack of earning speaks for itself as there are plenty of challenge swaps and xp boosts that could have been said currency and I think a lot of folks would agree. Then you’ve got the store price points which afternlots of thought could be extremely improved and streamlined for more ways to make money without breaking your consumers pockets. Now 70 for a game maybe even 80 should be standard for a full game release at this point but were still paying 60 so the battle pass being 10 bucks isnt bad to add on unlockable content through a battle pass but I shouldn’t have to fork that over every time the pass is new this game took 5 years to release with that notion and knowing they wanted a new pass every 3 months that’s 40 a year for 5 years leading up to a grand total of 200. Now idk about you but I dont think with the job 343 has been doing that anything they release should be 260 for full released product. Then we tackle the store problem and for comparison I’ll use fortnite and warzone stores. Now for fortnite I could be slightly wrong as it’s been a while since I played because I dont like how it plays but if remembering correctly youd pay like 5 to 10 us and get a skin a pickaxe and a few emotes oh plus a glider then in cod youd pay 10 to 20 and get 4 to 10 items depending on the pack and complexity of design now were in halo and you’re paying 20 for a non customizable skin or color like you cant even change the shoulders or anything. When I see the solo armor pieces I’m more excited than when I see the full armor since with the solo piece that’s like 5 bucks which should be 2.50 max can actually be added to other armor pieces.

This could be easily fixed by adding a way to earn even through challenges the premium currency and lowering the price or making the options more customizable. Personally I’d settle for a separate page for the armor pieces being purchasable individually from the full armor set. Since everyone likes being so unique since reach it’s the best option for us to buy the individual piece since the full set isnt customizable

I feel like the BP should have been included to people who at least bought the physical copy of the game because they really wanted full immersion. I feel kind of scammed that my fiance spent $60 on a game that I can’t even get the most out of. I’m still debating springing for the BP. Kinda messed up that there is literally no way to get digital perks without spending my hard-earned money on. Buy dinner for my family, or get a cat helmet bundle that I can use in matchmaking for $30? Pshh…

Oh no, poor developers and artists are so poor, they have no money, they need to feed their 2000 children theygot at home and they don’t have a single penny for bread.
I say screw 'em. They spit into the faces of the fans who kept the franchise alive all these years, they made fortunes and those up above can now have generations ahead kept wealthy. We should now somehow be thankful for what we got? We got an honrstly predatory scheme that encourages gambling, spending huge amounts of money, no matter the age of the consumer. How can you not see behind their motives and accept it?

It really isn’t!
Quite the absurd statement actually.

I have bought nothing from the store.

Stuff in the store isn’t even that great IMO - so, zero fomo.

Anything that’s in the store has zero affect on my game, so, not pay to win.

Anyone else buying anything from the store has zero affect on my game - if anything it helps me by supporting the game and ensuring it remains free to play so my friends keep playing -

I have however chosen to buy the battlepass for under ten pounds. I made this decision as it is permanent and to support a game and franchise that I love and has given me 20 years of enjoyment.

In conclusion; not the least bit predatory monetisation and definitely not the “most”.

Thanks.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. Not bothered about store items, I ignore them.

In fact, would like the option to turn it off and not see the unlocks in my armor hall at all (although I know they won’t do that).

Also bought the battle pass to support the game moving forward.

I agree with the majority of people in this forum, we should be getting experience for our actual skill (experience) in game.
Win a match, that’s an extra 50ex.
MVP for the game, extra 50ex
10 kills in a row without dying, extra 50ex
No scouped an individual across the map, while doing a 360 headtilt. Instant level up (I’m kidding on that last one, but you get the point).
Little off topic, but I do miss unlocking armour from doing hard challenges.

I agree with you on a couple points you touched on here. Let’s not forget though. The multiplayer is free to play for anyone. The have been launching events back to back with free cosmetics. They took the time to rework exp gain from each game and also changed how bland the challenges were to make it easier/enjoyable to complete them on a weekly basis. I feel like you are being a bit harsh on this subject when you aren’t being forced to purchase any in store items and or the battle pass. It does cost a studio money to keep a live game going as well and it is a business.

Honestly, there is really nothing different between how Halo set up the monetization and everyone else. One major problem though is that things that were once a part of the built in halo experience like the gungir helmet are now all added as things you have to now buy separately. It really leaves halo in the base form now just really empty. Really, what I believe is halo should have kept all the helmets and things like that that were included in previous games still unlockable and the battle pass really should have added to what was already included. Instead, players have to pay extra for what was once the core halo experience. A really bad look in my opinion. And the store really should be selling extra stuff like different body cores and things beyond what halo players are used to getting included. Now you have to pay extra for basics which is where it really lost me. Which brings me to the next major problem. I think gamers as a whole are tired of this same old setup. Battlepass, store, experience etc. Nothing groundbreaking, just more of the same.

Agreed.
I believe in the Free Market and making money, but this is just flat out greed.
Shame on you, 343.
The customization in Infinite could have been amazing, but the greed to squeeze every dollar out of your loyal gamers is disgusting.

What sets it a part are the prices! None of their bundles are worth it, even after they slightly reduced prices. They will charge $7+ bucks (actually $10 since thats the cheapest curency pack that lets you actually get anything) for a visor color, a helmet or shoulder pad set, and “emblems” (the same emblem copy-pasted onto different models.) A week or two after they made a show of reducing prices they brought the $20 bundles back, too. Other games at least make an effort to make their rip-off bundles seem fancier than other skins but infinite will sell you armor “sets” that may not even include pieces for every slot and charge the same.

Its also an ineptly done monetization system.
The 152s were lied to, then screwed.
But besides that, how many people got screwed with the promotional codes for products?
And break out your digital protractor, some stuff isnt finished, some looks slapped on.
And pretty much all of it is way too expensive.

So i have to buy an XBOX, Game, Gold Live membership BattlePass
Then i have buy add on sfuff to trick out my spartan? Compared to previous editions of Halo this is just a really poor value 343 Should be ashamed of themselves… Unless your Bill Gates Kid with a limit CC, what normal working stiff is going justify that expense? It is like buying a Hamburger and finding out after i get it i have to pay extre for the bun and the rest. Who does that? Talk about bait and switch.Pretty sad, I miss Bungie

You are tripping man. Something’s deserved hate and disliking but saying nonsense without research. Low key toxic, clearly you aren’t paying attention.
Being straight forward - Shouldn’t hurt your feelings but I guess I’ll find out soon.
