This is the most predatory monetisation scheme in a long time

From what I remember from the previous two flights/betas the store prices were cheaper and you got more content in them. It is quite disappointing the prices are so high for giving so little content. I also hope they provide a resolution for the people buying day one credits and not getting the gamepass discount. I’m surprised there isn’t many articles talking about this stuff.

I’m sorry but the most predatory loot system belongs to call of duty advanced warfare, and black ops 3

yeah. me. I’m not going to spend a cent on this customisation bs. it’s a shame that the gameplay is only ok, not great

Gameplay is great. Or at least the best 343 came at finally getting ‘Halo’ down.

That’s not just 2021 it’s in general something small and insignificant to someone yet some people just blow it out of proportion (like news media)

I agree there it feels fine it feel smooth it feels halo

Disagree. Its not as good as H5

So, you are shocked that the developers of a video game are monetizing certain aspects of a game that they made? Tough luck I guess. 🤷

They can monetize things without being exploitative or incompetent.

Neither is true about what you stated.

Most video games in today’s time have a very similar framework in terms of season passes, purchasing coins to buy unique armor and skins, and the option to level up battlepass levels with purchased coins.

343 is just keeping up with the competition, if it weren’t like this they are at the disadvantage.

It is not too complicated to understand.

We had vastly superior and free customisation in Halo: Reach. A game in this very franchise from 10 years ago!

Halo 5 had a better progression system with over 220 free armours and helmets that players could unlock without spending a penny.

In both games, you could mix and match armours however you like. Virtually all weapon skins and colours were free outside of e-sports skins. The entire customisation system in Infinite is a huge step backwards given the previous standards for this franchise, that is why people are rightfully complaining.

But hey, I’m sure you think it’s perfectly reasonable that people pay $15 for the colour blue, which is quite literally in the store right now.

Defending -Yoink!- business practices shouldn’t be encouraged just because other shooters are doing it. CoD Warzone locks weapons behind the battle pass, should Halo start doing that too?

Love you halo, the coatings should really be either universally accessible… or at the very least… allow me to use my store-bought HCS Skin, everywhere across the title…

I guess that’s why I’m not concerned with the current progression issue lol.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. One game game nickling and diming you doesn’t justify a different game doing it. And it’s not like they have to compete with other games for most monetization.

Now they do have to compete with other games in some sense. They need you playing and paying for their game. If you’re playing anothet game, hours not playing theirs after all. But I don’t know that this level of monetization is going to increase their player count. It seems to me it’s just causing people to want to play less. Which isn’t to say the game is unpopular, rather the predatory practices themselves don’t seem to be making players want to play the game more.

They could charge lower prices and add more avenues to earn cosmetics outside of the cash store. I mean, Destiny 2 does a far better job at this then Infinite. Tons of free shaders that can be applied to the overwhelming majority of armor and gear, a season pass that isn’t bogged down by an arbitrary grind, ways to get skins without paying money, etc.

Not hard to understand. Why settle for a worse experience?

Indeed they could, but that would take more effort and they’d have to at least some what listen to their fans.

I’m glad we both have games we enjoy. Good day.

These are really good points.

None of which require manipulative tricks like bottlenecking xp gain akin to how weeklies are handled. Difficult to achieve challenges both in performance as well as opportunity to do them as to sell boosts and swaps, or that there aren’t other means as to unlock cosmetics.

Who are worst? The gardeners that grow the progression trees? Or the vultures that hide within the branches?

We could do without either. Boycott the battle pass!
