good to see that the market conditioning works
It offers 1300 cod points when you buy the battle pass enough to re buy the pass shave some extra each season
i will never care for such systems… i am not going to spend money on dumb in-game currency for some lame cosmetics that don’t even add anything to the game
343 should instead focus on bringing out the stuff that actually is important, like Forge… but oh no… gotta wait again…
It’s a free game. It’s in beta. 343 are listening to the feedback and changing what doesn’t work, even going as far as compensating players by giving the weekly reward for free.
And no, it’s not even close to the most predatory games in the market, specially if the other example you are giving is a game that was pay to win, on top to 60 bucks.
How is possible that those things to change challenges are extremely rare to obtain and expensive at the store? If we could have them playing/winning matches and/or doing challenges, would be better.
And of course, everything that said OP is right.
It’s a classic play.
Be purposely greedy. Then pull back slightly. Then you look like the good guys and people praise you for “fixing” your “mistake.”
Hope you guys don’t fall for it. They created this system and the gameplay systems surrounding it to bleed you of money. I mean the campaign is still $60. They took the mp out of the package we used to get so that they could set up this swindle.
Please don’t support this unless you want the game industry to keep marching this direction.
Yeah, but to get all the armour that was default in Halo 3 you’ll probably pay $200
I played Halo and (Marathon previous) for decades before I ever changed my character to anything but default. Only in Halo 5 did I get curious about what this REQ stuff was I kept seeing on the screens. So I looked around and saw some silly changes I could make to my character and I did for fun. But honestly it’s just juvenile to get worked up about some glob of ones and zeros on your TV and how it wears it’s clothes. It’s Halo not Project Runway.
I’m not going to quit the game because of cosmetics. But that doesn’t mean I am okay with the system. I mean, today we have two knives being sold for $10. And I’m not okay with that. Also, I don’t have a problem on principle with paying for items, it feels like part of their monetization scheme is why we don’t have colors anymore. Which I sorely miss. The system may not be evil or anything, but I legitimately think the game is poorer for it.
You don’t have to spend it on the battlepass, you can spend it on anything you want.
I will be honest…I was just thinking this AFTER I spent probably a total of $140.00 (Battle Pass Premium and then credits afterwards. I really like this game…but the fact that the Battle Pass progression is too slow, and I am just saying “ef it here is some money so I can get armor coating XYZ” that is an issue.
I was originally thinking this will probably get fixed by the second season, but I think this is something that needs to get fix before the end of Q1 2022.
I feel that 343 has the multiplayer down as far as feel goes, but they really need to work on the Battle Pass progression and cost on digital goods. I thought the Halo MCC seasonal grind was at a great spot.
Just going to step in and preemptively defend this point from the inevitable 343 defenders who’ll make the same argument that didn’t land the first three times they made it ITT.
Falling for the monetisation scheme’s intended manipulation is not indicative of it not being manipulative. The system is intentionally slow and labourious to encourage people to fork over money at an alarming price for what is very little compared to other games on the market, of which said content should and previously has come as standard. “You’re just bad with money” and “They’re not forcing you” are not arguments when presented with such brazen manipulation of the playerbase, they’re not forcing you but they very much want you to think they are.
The argument that free to play monetization is necessary because “343 somehow needs to make money” is null and void. 343 gets paid salary. The sole existence for in game monetization is to please corporate entities whose shareholders forecast billions in additional profit.
Games don’t need to sell themselves anymore. They don’t even have to be good to be profitable. They just need the majority of people to be naive enough to spend ridiculous amounts of money on digital items that have no inherent value.
If 90% of gamers stopped purchasing in-game items, the entire industry would revert to the “$60 for the whole package” overnight. (And still be profitable)

as someone who is still paying on student loans from ITT…that stung a bit
I bought the cloud black armor set and I can’t change it at all. I was trying to change the visor and I can’t so that makes the battle pass which I also bought kind of useless if that makes sense.
You are exactly right my guy. They should know better than this
This needs more likes
I just wish people would stop defending them with “well it’s a free game”. This might technically be free-to-play but it’s literally just the multiplayer from any normal Halo game cut out and packaged separately. They’re still selling the campaign separately for full price and probably the exact same number of people are going to buy it. They’re undoubtedly going to make far, far more money from this being “free” and if people want more than a couple of armour sets they’re going to be paying for more than the price of a full game just for that, which is ridiculous.
I’m not saying they can’t or shouldn’t monetise the game but it’s totally fair for people to point out how egregious the system is.
I have really just started. My husband has been a Halo fan since he switched from Nintendo to X-Box because of Halo, back in 2002. I am having some fun with MCC and Halo 5, even when he sits on the lounge next to me, telling how to play. The MCC and Halo 5 appear to have an excellent rewards system. Last night, he was showing how much is behind the Battle Pass, in the progression system. At this point ( I know it’s BETA ) it appears to be anyway, that this is definitely a push towards unscrupulous monetization. Statista, has a comprehensive breakdown of profit streams, used by video game companies. F2P, with it’s ‘Battle Pass’ and ‘Loot Box’ systems is very profitable. It’s almost impossible to summise it any other way, but that Microsoft looked at how to make the most money out of a game and decided on F2P, for the best profit stream.
I have the campaign disc on order ( To Husband - What do you want for Christmas? Answer from Husband - a Makita cordless power drill and impact driver set AND HALO INFINITE !!! ) He is now impatiently waiting for the Halo disc to arrive, there’s no way it’s going to make it under the tree for christmas, but he appears to be almost indifferent to the current Multiplayer. He showed me the battle Pass system last night and appeared to be quite annoyed by it.
