I’ve not been able to stop listening to it all day. Honestly, the past 6 hours I’ve had the Halo 4 OST on repeat and I can’t bring myself to stop listening to it.
Legacy isn’t just the best Halo track I’ve ever heard, but one of the most beautiful pieces of music my ears have ever 'gasmed to. I can’t wait to hear it in-context of the game, I’m hoping for it to be an eerie ambient track inside a huge Forerunner cathedral at some point.
Belly of the Beast and 117 are just plain epic. Solace, Haven, and Blue & Green are simply beautiful, they really manage to convey an emotional sense of tragedy which will likely pop up in pivotal points in the game. The former sounds like a blend of Halo with themes emulated from Journey and Oblivion.
Requiem is ‘that track’ - you know the one I mean. It’s the track that is building up to that spectacular reveal of… well, Requiem. Very much like the reveal of Installation 04 in Halo CE when we emerge from the crash.
Nemesis, Immaterial and Revival all have that ominous feeling to them - Immaterial certainly seems to have a few motifs from the tracks that would play in the Flood missions in Halo CE, giving it a very dark quality. Revival and Nemesis seem like tracks that go hand-in-hand, the chants are captivating, I’ve been subconsciously drumming the “DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN” beat ever since the E3 trailer too. Very memorable, indeed.
I could go on, but you can probably see where I’m going here. If only I were able to shake Davidge’s hand right now, he chose the dangerous option to break away from the original thematic and atmospheric sounds of Halo CE-3 and breathed new life into the series’ soundtrack. I really hope he’s brought back for Halos 5 and 6, I was excited to hear his take on halo ever since he was announced to be composing it (being a pretty big Massive Attack fan myself).
Hats off to you Neil, I can’t wait to hear these in-context of the game.
It’s very good, but I don’t recommend listening to ‘Green and Blue’ if you don’t want spoilers, because if you understand the title and listen to the song… well you’ll know what it means. I couldn’t stand to even finish it.
Beyond that, it’s pretty spectacular. Neil’s rendition of ‘Never Forget’ is superb and there’s a ton of tracks that stand to listening without any context for what happens in the game. I haven’t heard the classic Halo theme at all though. (WTF?)
> The Halo 2 OST’s are best by far IMO nothing has topped it so far.
Halo 4’s just surpasses it for me, since there aren’t any tracks I’ve felt like I wanted to skip. They all feel very well-paced and even out-of-context they feel good to listen to, some are very uplifting.
Halo 2 does have a fantastic soundtrack, right up there with ODST IMO. But there are a fair few songs I dislike, and the inclusion of Breaking Benjamin and Incubus didn’t particularly add anything to the experience for me.
I disagree, Halo 1-3s soundtracks were simply amazing and blew me away each time. I also loved ODSTs twist on the soundtrack especially with that sweet Sax. Reachs was quite boring and so far there are only a fews tracks on the Halo 4 OST that I think stand their own ground against the other soundtracks. I do believe that the marketing team could have done a better job with trailers, with previous Halos we had big epic trailers that used tracks from the OST so build an emotional connection and make the tracks memorable. They have not done this with Halo 4 however and it is quite dissapointing, there is an overall lack of trailers for Halo 4 (I know they spent a lot on Forward Unto Dawn but still). With hardly any trailers to build that connection I expect a lot of people to not be able to remember a lot of tracks form Halo 4, even the weapon trailers used remixes instead of proper songs from the proper OST.

I agree, I think those tracks are the worst out of all the halo tracks to date Imo.

> Here it is. It’s pulled from one of the other tracks, I’m not sure which, but it’s clearly a unique rendition of the song.

It came off as a bit corny and mainstream, IMO. I’d have much preferred the battle in the Mausoleum to have In Amber Clad playing, or even Rock Anthem for Saving the World.
If you like it now, wait until you actually hear the songs in-game. They’re perfect. Especially Immaterial. When that song plays, you know sh*t’s going down.

Funnily enough, I’m listening to that track right now.
