They hype is real, but I’m stuck here on the sidelines for one big reason. 343 claims they care about the community, and I would have believed that…but then they went ahead and took 4 player split screen out of the game. And it’s irrelevant to me whether or not a 4 player local group can play on Xbox Live, because that’s really not the point of splitscreening, is it? I don’t understand why they thought it would be okay to take this feature out.
Nobody cares about the frame-rate and graphic drops. There were drops in the MCC, Halo 4, Halo Reach, etc. Nobody complained about it back then, and nobody complains about it now. Halo is not Halo without 4 player splitscreen. There are many people like my friends and I who mostly play splitscreen Halo. The MCC was awesome for that, despite the launch. Splitscreen saved the MCC for me.
I remember when 343 released Halo CE Anniversary, and to celebrate the launch, they hosted a big, classic-style lan party. What happened between then and now that made them forget how important this was?
I know I went on a bit of a rant here, but I’ve been seeing Josh Holmes commenting on other people’s posts, so I hope he reads this.
Claiming nobody cares about graphic degradation is just opening up a can of worms.

Oh, lay it on us, obviously you’re special. 343 claims they care about the community, and I would have believed that…OH, THERE’S THE HOOK. I AM HOOKED. OH PLEASE OH PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME. but then they went ahead and took 4 player split screen out of the game. GASP, NO! NO WAY?! And it’s irrelevant to me whether or not a 4 player local group can play on Xbox Live, because that’s really not the point of splitscreening, is it? Rhetorical question! WOW, JUST KEEPING US HOOKED. I don’t understand why they thought it would be okay to take this feature out. Because you have a small view on this, instead of looking at the big picture.

I think, you, sir, win the internet with that summation.
@OP, despite how YOU may feel about, I believe I read somewhere that the number of people who actually use 4 player split screen has become a very small percentage of people, so its not a good allocation of resources to make sure that it specifically makes it in. Sorry to say, pal.
For the 1000th time, it’s about resources.
It isn’t 2001 and there aren’t that many people playing 4 player split screen anymore. The devs would not only have to downgrade the graphics and work their -Yoinks!- off to make the game playable for 4 player split screen at 30 FPS (down from 60 FPS in all other experiences), but this would take away from development time and resources that could be spent on other features and aspects of the game that people actually use.
Not to mention no matter what you claim about players “not caring about graphics downgrades,” there IS going to be a segment of the audience who maybe would have played 4 player split screen but decides not to based on how garbage it is, which further cuts down on the people who will use the feature.
This song should constantly play on loop for some people around here, specifically the following lines:
> Your old road is
> Rapidly agin’
> Please get out of the new one
> If you can’t lend your hand
> For the times they are a-changin’.

Although true… while I initially came into this small campaign for asking 343i to consider implementing 4P split screen, I did think about changing times.
Am I being ‘traditional’ in this matter? Too conservative?
Am I asking to hold back on something to keep something old still relevant?
Perhaps so… It’s true a lot more people are interesting in just simply playing online instead of gathering with their friends to do it.
But also consider this forum is largely an exchange of ideas.
So obviously those who still use 4P split screen are going to ask for it to be implemented.
I have plenty of fun playing with my friends. I don’t have anywhere near as much fun playing over Xbox Live.
So am I going to let things go as it is or am I going to speak for something that’s fun for me and my friends?
Either way, Halo to me is still its story.
But without 4P split screen, the multiplayer side of it might as well not exist for me, unfortunately.
Of course I’m going to want to use it though, so why does it hurt to ask for 4PSS to be implemented?
If 343i could come out and give a definite answer on this issue now that some of us have spoken -
“Yes, we’re bringing back 4P SS” or “No, suck it up.”
I’d be a little more happy either way, at least they acknowledged us.

They already did I believe, I don’t have the exact quote with me, but they confirmed that Halo 5 would have 2 player split-screen at launch.
Pretty sure that’s why this topic exists in the first place.

Bolded it for ya.
What I mean is if they could respond to us responding to Josh’s tweets back in December…
It’d be nice to hear from 343i themselves why they are taking it out.
For what they are doing on this console, the games frame rate and graphics would be demolished if you implemented the 4 player split screen. Now do I agree that it’s not in the game? No. But, for the sake of the game as a whole, it would be awful to play like that in MM. When you play single player, or one person in MM, your console only has to render everything once, but with 4 people it has 4 times the amount of rendering which would impose the lag and glitchy looking graphics.

Ah, my mistake, of course.
I haven’t used split-screen in ages and I’m sure most haven’t either. It’s a feature that is slowly no longer becoming necessary.
I’m sorry 343 would have to dedicate the appropriate resources in order to make a decent game
Is what I would say if I was sorry. But no, this shows a huge lack of respect for fans

I know that. In this case it was. Maybe if you knew what I was talking about you would have known that

Degrading the game to a cringeworthy amount on four tiny little screens, being a feature that barely anyone uses, is needed to make a decent game? The cost isn’t worth the result.

I know of what you are talking about, I’m pointing out that you need to learn the difference between a LAN party and a multiscreen lan party. There are multiple ways to play a lan, and just because they did it old school doesn’t mean that the NEWEST Halo would need, or warrant the use of multiscreen. The resources don’t allow it. Stop complaining like a child.
What about 2 player split screen? I know it is in the game, but where does it fall in the gaming statistics? As I share an Xbox with my brother, and so does my friend, who’s brother is friends with my brother. And then we play 4 player online…

I hope they take out split screen altogether to be honest. I hate people that go into MP with a guest. Normally they are just terrible, and result in losing the game. I can understand why it’s there, but I would laugh hysterically if they took it out.

Well, My brother and I have two separate accounts, one friend has to use guest though because they share an account, but seriously? what is the problem with guests? I guess having to deal with a little kid playing with an older one can be annoying but besides that, what?
