Hello to all of you new folks. I haven’t been here in about a year so to all of just showing up, welcome to the forums!
Now the update has been released as most of you know. It seems to be catching mixed responses. On one side, people are claiming that they are finding matches on the regular, like me. On the otherside, some claim that it has made things worse.
Now although I am studying video game design, programming is far from what I am good at (I do art and 3D modeling). But even knowing close to nothing about programming, I would think that an update meant to improve online performance would be universally beneficial. Not selectively. Anybody have a clue as to why we such a split result?
Some people are stating that they can not find a match in a group but solo searching are really great compared to past, I have not tried it out myself yet

if it is a server end patch like the first one was. I think might be region based. I would like to see a poll of people having a hard time with it and their geographical location. Or they could have a strict NAT and not notice it and be wrong as to what is causing them problems. (I am also not a programer so this is all speculation)

If you have to download something, it’s client side. Server side patches don’t require you to download anything so the patch that came out yesterday contained fixes for issues on the disc.

I find myself in the same boat as you; it has been easy to find matches. What I am gathering is that most people that are upset are unhappy with occasional uneven teams and party issues. This is coupled with the fact that many did not read the patch updates where 343 said that while this update would improve stability, it was not intended to optimize matchmaking, which is actively an ongoing effort.
In terms of the servers, it’s a huge shift from the peer to peer matchmaking under Bungie. I think many of the younger players do not understand this concept and are just pointing their fingers and saying that this would have never happened if Bungie was in charge (which they’re right. Bungie was using an inferior matchmaking system and never used dedicated servers).
Quite simply, we both know that there’s still some stability issues that need to get worked out. But, like me, I’m sure you’re just happy to be playing right now. I think newer players to the series are tired of waiting and, coupled with an ignorance as to how these games are developed, think that 343/MS is just incompetent, which is simply laughable. Once the servers are straightened out (and this patch has been an incredible improvement over what launched), matchmaking quality should be immensely better than what it was under Bungie, although I imagine the competitiveness won’t be what it once was…but that’s an entirely different topic.

I’m afraid you’re right. I’ve read short interview with Frank O’Connor on a german game site. He mentioned that all the small problems are connected to a bigger problem that did not show until they released the game. Wonder what that might be?
