It’s in beta but 343 has stated all the launch maps are already available. There will be no new content once the game launches in terms of map or game mode variety. It’s a fair criticism to point out the lackluster BTB map design and the limited amount of arena maps.
I agree with a lot of what you are saying but not this. Halo has a lot more movement considerations to design around. you have the:
- added verticality (this is huge)
- armour abilities like repulsor and grappleshot
- more dynamic sandbox and modes
- vehicles (in some cases)
Stop bringing logic to the conversation bud!
This is currently my biggest concern for the game.
Not only are there not enough maps, what is there doesn’t feel varied enough.
For example: there are 3 BTB maps, two of which look like the different parts of the same map, and one that looks like that map at night.
For BTB specifically the maps/gametypes also don’t feel fun to replay. It’s hard to describe, but the gametype feels more like warzone lite, not the sandboxy mode that BTB should be.
The smaller maps don’t fare much better. Aquarius, Recharge, Streets, and launch site all feel similar aesthetically. Live Fire is fine if not too ‘sterile’. I’d like to mention Behemoth and Bazar but I’ve gotten them a grand total of once.
I’m a huge Halo fan, I’ve been waiting for this game for years, and I’m already bored with the maps/gametypes. The game is undoubtedly fun/good, but with the launch state of the game and delay of Season 2 I don’t think it will have legs before that.
Besides Launch Site, the maps are pretty good. I don’t really play BTB, but those maps do look same-y.
I do wish they had some map remakes but for some reason when 343i does remakes they make the map bigger for sprint unnecessarily. Actually they tend to make maps bigger in general.
Ya 34ei maps a re bigger but to their credit older sprint models made it necessary and warzone as a concept required it.
All in all im happy with the design none are instant classics but none are bad and as I learn them some will become favourites.
Remakes for btb given 5 lacked deg maps for it and forge is MIA for now would have been a good addition and surely would have been easier to design, they have clear templates to iterate on.
The visual design feels samey across the board so a covie aesthetic would have been a nice addition or halo3 style of different takes on forerunner. A sangheli map even they could have reused some assets from Guardians It wouldn’t have been an issue for me anyway.
But the homogeneous halo 5 human arena style, as good as it is, is too frequent for me.
Great game but not the greatest launch suite.
I think so also.
And that is ok.
It is ok not to like the game.
I am enjoying the heck out of it thus far.
Telling me the game i like isn’t for me isn’t really anyone else’s but my place to say.
I never once said I wasn’t enjoying the game.
I said I was disappointed there is a clear distinction.
If you just applaud something that is lacking because you like it or have a loyalty to the brand you fail that thing/brand.
Expecting 5 BTB maps is hardly an outrageous thing when you consider forge, coop and firefight/spartan ops aren’t in the game at launch. Halo 4 had no delay, far less time in development and 3 modes all supported at launch.
As of now there is no indication December 8th will add 2 maps as shadow goes onto claim.
Please refrain from telling others what is or isn’t “for them”.
Its possible to critique things from a place of appreciation.
I don’t waste my time discussing things I do not like.
I think the maps are Fantastic. Exploring these arenas was no issue for me. Alot of them remind me of places on Reach with heavily forest areas.
Did you read anything before you commented?
Lmao I wouldn’t say that. The biggest issue is player progression, the game needs to reward players for doing well and for playing. The maps are fine, 10 is little short but not exactly far from Reach and 3 Launch Maps. The big kicker is a lack of game modes. That’s the big negative for me as of right now for the game outside of progression.
Half the time when I am reading these goofy posts I think to myself… Are we even playing the same game here?
Sorry you’re having a rough time and it didn’t live up to your expectations. I hope it gets better for you
Even though I may not be happy with some aspects of the beta, I am just happy to be playing it. Is it what I expected? Not quite. However, I am looking forward to watching the game evolve over the coming months. I remember MCC back in 2016. It was not great. But look at it now! We rushed 343, so lets live with what we pushed for.
