Where the f_u+c=k! is the ranking system? anyone know? there are times I play against ppl my own skill, sometimes ppl way below my skill and sometimes a team who has amazing team work. Right now the matchmaking is unbalanced and I would love to have the choice of fooling around in social and taking it serious in ranking. I would like to see a ranking system come out soon one similar to halo 2, maybe halo3 and definitely not halo reach ranking system. Personally it would make the game more constructive in my opinion and take away alot of the issues at hand giving ppl more of an incentive to play halo(better team, better challenge, not as much quitting, separate ppl from fooling around to playing serious, etc.) I looked through the forums and couldn’t find a topic on this so i decided to make one to tear this mother f_u_c_k_e_r up. Everyone plz enlighten me on your thoughts and opinions even include playlist you want to see, like, or have changed in the future. 1st amendment is acceptable in this chat with the exception of this forums b!u@l$l%s^h&i8t censoring.

trueskill, it’s inconsistent but that’s all we have.
This isn’t going to end well.
Please see the “news” section on this very website. Here is a link to get you started. The ranking system that will be implemented in April is called, Competitive Skill Rank (CSR).

Quoted for truth.
OP you should really read more, It has been confirmed CSR will only be visible on Waypoint not in game, deal with it allready.
Pus CSR is suppsoedly the new Rankign System.
Pssssshh…unreal how they cant have a ranking system in the game, even if adding the CSR on waypoint, WHOCARES? We don’t want to look on the internet at other people, we want to see each other in the lobby when were about to play a match. Why can’t it it just be like halo 2 or 3, I mean it’s that simple 343…
I have a feeling a mod is gonna flag your post for bypassing the word filter, just saying OP.
Yes, the balance with player matching is atrocious, and needs to be resolved. The system that 343 is using currently obviously does not work with 100% accuracy or anywhere near.
(I can’t wait for a Mod to put the filter on the OP)
tl;dr, but I’m a huge math geek, and this drives me batty.
OK - for those who don’t like how matches turn out - I had a situation where we played Big Team Battle, and had wildly different results. Since we had a full party of 8, used mics, and were used to gaming together, I figured we should dominate, particularly since one of the players on our team is freaking unbelievable. Not the case - we would win 1000-360, but turn around and lose 650-1000. “Sniper Dwight & the 7 Scrubs…” I wanted to see if True Skill was broken or not, so I pulled the levels (I used their Reach BPR as a surrogate) for all of the players for 5 games and found the following:
True Skill can only do so much.
There - I said it.
True Skill uses the average of the team to decide who to build the teams, but also has to get the games started in a reasonable amount of time.
Things that mess up ranking:
-
Guests - As soon as split-screen players are added to the mix, modelling has to go out of the window. You would have to either assume that they are more or less the same or use a default, because there is no way to tell if the guest is a college student who plays 8 hours a day on a league, or the host’s 7-year-old niece who is bored.
-
Averages are a terrible way to assign teams when there are parties - but then again, it doesn’t make much difference. Since we had a full team, one side was set. The system just needed to build the other team. In a perfect world, there would be a one-for-one skill match for each player, and then the last player or two would be used to make the average come out perfect… but that would take forever. More likely in the interest of getting the game started in a reasonable amount of time, it grabs the ‘next up’ and then looks to see how that stands. Then the last player or two could be assigned to make the average work out, within a certain amount of leeway, and the game can quickly start.
The problem is that the last person’s skill can be hugely good or bad, and still not make much of a difference in the overall average. I tried using more advanced analysis, because I think that Root Mean Square (RMS - look it up) would have been better, but even so, that last player’s True Skill level won’t budge the result much.
- Even if the setup is perfect to start, quitters and JIP trash it. Since you don’t want to play with a hole on one team, so someone “close” would get jammed in there. Worse yet, we once had a group of 5 and went into BTB, and two people joined our party late. They were assigned to the OTHER TEAM automatically, and they were really good, so our lead we had built rapidly disappeared.
