Remove melee lunge. All of it. Every trace of it.
The only logical reason for it being there is to lower the skill gap (bad).
“Aim-assist” for melee is drastically different than a gun’s auto-aim. The melee system can work absolutely fine without lunge it as demonstrated by Halo:CE.
This decreases the likely hood of a melee fight ending in a trade (where both players die), which just doesn’t make sense.
YES! I’m tired of being 9 feet beside an enemy when they melee and somehow that makes them instantly change direction and hit me.
-_-
Yes, thank you… I had a Running Riot in BTB yesterday, using only the DMR. Finally, some kid comes to me and starts shooting randomly. I should have won, but instead, he landed 2 shots, and from 5 feet away, pummeled me.
Melee lunge isn’t “aim-assist” for melee. You could still melee something more than an arm’s length away in CE (including a co-op partner’s back because you under-estimated the melee range.) You take away the range, lunge and assist and you make trying to punch an enemy what its like to melee a team mate in Reach - difficult as hell.
Adjust it yes, but to move it altogether makes melee a very confusing thing,
Halo CE had the perfect melee system. In Halo 2, you could hit someone from a mile away.

Halo 1 and Halo 2 had the same melee range.(I think)
In halo 2 they just made you lunge, mostly for visuals.
Now if you are taking aim assist into account, that is what should be taken out. Not the lunge. The melee lunge does nothing bad to the game at all.

Halo 2 when first released had no melee lunge. The lunge was added post release from what I remember. Not sure why, but it does make a great deal of gameplay difference and is not “just visual”. Like someone posted earlier, being able to rapidly change direction and melee from a ridiculous range.
Also, aim assist is necessary in online games to compensate for differences in latency. Start up a custom game with a friend and have them run around. Then, try to land hits on them from a respectable distance with any precision weapon. Then, imagine doing that, only their hitbox is displaced by a few feet in any given direction. Often in online games, the guy your aiming at actually isn’t exactly where you see them on the screen.

This.
I’d like to see the return of range. In CE, it was a fail safe against assassinating Elites (but they were slow to track you so you could go around them after stunning them with an overcharged bolt) while allowing you to melee infection forms. Then came H2 and H3 and infection forms are hard as hell to melee (really breaks that immersion) while the bigger guys are just too easy (and some other problems of lunge include not meeting your target, hitting the wrong enemy, hitting something other than the enemy).
Lunge slows down gameplay (Hunters, Elites, Brutes all do these reverse melees but they’re so easy to dodge and very easy assassination opportunities. Unless you get subsequent assassinations, there isn’t anything exciting about these).
Bringing back a bigger melee range would make gameplay a lot faster, provided they get rid of reverse melees for Elites and Brutes because it’s just annoying. Only sword Elites in H2 had them and only melee weapon AI should have them in H4.
I approve and agree.
If Halo 4 had perfectly balanced gameplay, I’d rage for a while…but that’s only because I’ve been noobed up by Reach.

^^That post = very very stupid.

so true, trying to melee without any assist would be extremely hard, not in a way that would make the game take more skill, but where it would frustrate players

I may be uneducated in the exact terms, but the melee system in CE did work, and rewarded good players.
CE melee would be awesome but I don’t see it happening
too often in reach i am running directly behind an enemy and i melee… nothing, my arm goes out, stops, comes back and they keep running!
but im running backwards shooting someone we both have no shields and suddenly, skidoosch melee to the face from 10ft.
removing melee lunge while probably making melee allot harder to do well would not only balance out this inconsistent and random BS, but also reduce the effectiveness of the sprint/melee tactic that so many people consider cheap or unskilled.
Aim assist for EVERYTHING should be removed so the game actually takes skill.
And -Yoink- hit scan too. You should have to lead your shots. shouldn’t be instants hits.
I am going to campaign for unnoobfying Halo due MLG and the so called “competitive” players.
> Aim assist for EVERYTHING should be removed so the game actually takes skill.
Impractical.
> And -Yoink!- hit scan too. You should have to lead your shots. shouldn’t be instants hits.
Hit scan is to make shots hit consistently over network/internet. Too often in Halo 3, shots would be dropped because of lag and lack of hitscan.

dedicated servers dude. Halo needs to be un-noobified. MLG nad “competitive” players have made Halo one of the biggest noob games ever.
It’s time to fix it.
