It’s strange knowing that I can’t take part in a beta, for a public patch, for a game that I’ve already purchased. All because I haven’t been invited by a stranger to be a member of a preview program.
343, please let anyone who wants to help with the patch be a part of the process. It can only help to have more people stress testing it.
I think they are doing it through the preview programme so they can specifically target users who either opt in or are selected from past participation. It’s really the easiest way to roll something like this out. I don’t think this patch needs stress tested, more accurate and productive feedback.
To add to the above post (copied from another thread I just posted in but relevant to your concern):
It makes sense for them to have this closed to a subset of Preview members. A) Those Preview members have to OWN the MCC. (So this is not just free game time for those that may not even own the game) B) They have to have put in so much time into the MCC to qualify. (Preview member are actually applying to participate and only a subset of Preview members will get in - so being in Preview alone is no guarantee) C) They have to actually play and test the new systems that this update puts into place at the cost of not being able to matchmake any longer with the rest of the community that does not have it. D) They have to commit to taking their time to provide feedback and answer specific surveys polling information on particular game behaviors the developer wants investigated.
If they just opened this up to the public as a whole, it would defeat the purpose of doing this in the first place. Whether I get in or not, this is the way to do it, and a great system. It will ensure that when the public release comes in the very near future, it will be as polished as possible.
Again, I’m not a member of the preview program and there is no way to just sign up for it. Just because I don’t harass strangers in forums for an invite doesn’t mean I can’t give “accurate and productive feedback”. I have asked once in these forums for an invite, and it didn’t happen. Oh, well.
After all, since I’ve been playing this game since release day, I feel like I’ve been a part of the preview program for at least > 2 months.
This is the kind of thing the whole community should be a part of. Come on 343, don’t alienate those who have been continuously playing. Let those who are frustrated with the performance and functionality of the game HELP. Turn a negative/frustrating experience into a positive one.
The reason they are doing it this way is the same reason they were focusing on certain starting weapons and maps at distinct times during the Halo 5 beta. Its so they can focus the data-sets they are receiving on specific targets and control for certain variables. Without controlling the variables properly, it would be harder and take longer for them to analyze the data they get and make the changes they need.
They also have history of doing something similar which worked well for them when it came to fixing some networking issues before the Halo 5 beta, so they will want to stick with what has worked already.
Only time will tell, I do feel optimistic though , they are acting very professional doing it this way. BUS I’ll try and send you an invite to the preview program when I get on, Your probably too late for this beta test though.

Indeed he is too late for this one, but if BUS generally wants to help the Xbox Community as a whole, he will be right in line for similar opportunities in the future! There may also be a way to still gain Preview Program access without harassing strangers BUS. When I joined I applied through the console - no invitation from a stranger needed. They may have closed that off now though, I am not sure.
