I’d guess Johnson counts as infantry. Cyclops count as infantry as well, and they are also affected by mech overdrive. There’s been a lot of confusion over mech ever since Johnson was added…
For the OP, I don’t think Heroes are affected by the universal upgrades. They have their own upgrades that buff their health and damage separately.

Yes they also effect super units.
No. Global upgrades have no effect on hero units or uber units (scarab, condor, retriever).
But Johnson is considered infantry.
So they do and they do not. Understood.
