All I want to do is enjoy arena, I just want to have a fun casual match. But this games awful dependency on ranked and its awful matching have made it nothing but a chore to play since launch.
Today it broke me. I’m not going to try to just enjoy this game anymore. I’m just going to stop playing. I lose and lose and I still get matched with onyx and champion teams. This is how you drive away all but the most competitive players from your game. You make them feel bad for even trying to play. Good job 343, 10 or so months after launch and I still can’t play arena.
Just ignore the ranking overall, when breakout was ranked I played it continuously I never cared for what rank I was, Of course I did notice it , but I never payed much attention to it. I got hate messages one match because I pulled off a superfecta on two onyx and and two platinum. They even invited me to the party to start insulting me and such, I joined but I didn’t indulge in it. Just don’t focus on what the other players rank is and treat as if everyone is on the same skill level as you, everyone’s playing the same game so no one is at disadvantage or advantage. Unless they got a rocket launcher but that’s besides the point.
It always gets super sweaty around the time of placement matches…
Something is is funky with this game man, I swear… I am an Onyx level player and was getting owned by Platinum-tiers last night. Like Plat 1’s… And it happened in the dumbest of ways… I’d spawn, run into literally, the NEXT room, and run into a corner camper… seemingly ALL night long! Every engagement was super awkward…
I don’t think I had a positive K/D in a single match last night. I’ve never been so pissed at this game…
Same here OP. I did set the search preference to Focused but matches are still sweaty.
I would very much like to be able to play in a ‘Non Competitive’ arena. I’m not worried about K/D or rank I would just like to play for fun.
And saying play some other playlist isn’t really helpful, I like arena, but have lost interest overall in Halo it’s not as enjoyable.
The first couple days after reset are generally the toughest to qualify in, as there are a lot of teams trying to get a quick Champ rating. To get Champ in Slayer yesterday I think all you needed was 1800 rating, and Team Arena was around 2000. A lot of Onyx’s use resets to get a quick Champ rating on their profile because the rating needed is low. You can qualify as Onyx 1700 and quickly farm up to Champ, as opposed to the end of the season where Onyx goes up to 3000+. You were a Diamond last season, so its not crazy to be matching you with Onyx players.
If you don’t like sweaty games stay away from Team Arena/Slayer for the first few days after reset, or play with a Fireteam of friends. Personally I like this time a lot because you often play with VERY good players. Many pro’s were playing in Onyx yesterday, and its cool to run into them every now and then.
Also, you played 5 games and lost them all this season, but last season you had a freakin 90% win percentage (only 10 games played though), and your overall percentage is still 56%, so it seems for the most part you’re getting good matches. You just don’t play enough arena to have a stable MMR, if you’d play 100 matches in one season you’d get to where you’re supposed to be. Right now MM is still trying to figure you out, you can’t judge the matchmaking after 15 games played.
