This game's dialogue man. Hope it changes...

> crash lands again
> “N-NN-Nooo!”

> "NOOOO! N-N-N NOO!
> exhales at an ear-splitting volume, then inhales all of the cabin’s emergency oxygen
> “N-NOO! Y-YOUU”
> does wild points and hand gestures, does the macarena
> “I- I CANT…THIS… NO…”
> sucks in air so loudly it alerts 12 nearby Banished patrols
> “AM I DEAD? I MUST BE DREAMING! THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING”
> casts spittle all over himself
> "AHH! NO! WHEN DO I GO HOME CHIEF? WE LOST, WE LOST
> wets himself
> “WE NEED TO RUN”
> Master Chief squashes his head in like a grape with one hand grip
> “No…we need to cancel our preorders.”
> Craig (while out on patrol) peeks into the pelican
> “'Nuff said.”

Amazing start to the demo. Incredible.

But that demo ENDING, got my blood flowing and chills up my spine who could forget these lines!

> monke ghost of cutscenes past pops up on screen and starts showing chief rewinds
> “Chief my dad Atriox is away for the day, I’m so lonely and bored ;)”
> chief stays silent because he’s tired of -Yoink!- AI’s coming onto him
> monke nothing personal kid’s RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CHIEF and let’s him smell his breakfast (it was bananas again as usual) as is customary in his culture
> “SPARTAN THIS FIGHT WILL BE LEGENDARY BECAUSE I AM SAYING SO. ARE YOU HYPED? THIS IS EPIC STORYTELLING, ARE YOU READY TO PRE-ORDER YET??”
> starts a intergalactic war for oxygen supremacy against some hysteric pilot miles away
> qoutes at least like six different major lines from successful cinema pieces mish-mashed together because he loves to consume products and wants his favorite marvel super hero Halo Chief to see him as a cool dude
> “Pretty sure The Gladiator did it better, bro, I think I’ll go rewatch instead of playing the rest of this game” Chief says (right before poking out his other eyeball)

I can’t lie, I really hope the world is fun to co-op in, because I see myself honestly skipping my ritual of playing a halo game on solo legendary on release to immerse myself in the story. (if I buy it due to multi not being bad) Some say the T rating is not correct and placeholder or due to different guidelines on ratings, but this writing honestly reminds me of the cringe teenage tier marketed -Yoink- you’d see said by a nu-starwars villain.

Also unrelated but does anyone else feel like WHATEVER 343 has been doing to in-game cutscenes since Halo 4 has been absolutely god awful? They feel so jarring. It’s hard to explain, just watch the scene of Master Chief getting sucked into requiem in H4 and compare to ANY mid level cutscene (like chief reuniting with Cortana in H3) in H3/Reach and you’ll see what I mean.

Not gonna lie, the monologue at the end was cringe, felt like a generic bad guy speech

There have been some lines in the saga… But if you think this is flat out cringe then replay the campaign of halo 5

I like the pilot’s dialogue in the Discover Hope trailer and gameplay demo, and i liked Escharum’s speech as well. I think they’re a little on the dramatic side, but it’s fun for a videogame. All their dialogue (including Chief’s) hint at what they’re thinking internally and going through emotionally. It’s not all subtle, but it’s more than functional, and quite enjoyable in my opinion.

I think the motion capture is also helping to sell it for me. If you’re underwhelmed by the demo’s graphics, note that the in-game (seamless from cutscenes) has next-gen face and body mo-cap.

gonna disagree with you there given most generic bad guy speeches don’t talk up the protagonist

That pilot was so cringe to hear, never have I felt a huge desire to do an NPC betrayal because of that as oppose to for fun. Character is bad, dialogue is bad, and the brute at the end, where compare his dialogue to Atriox and you can figure out why Atriox is the boss.
“Run, little Demons”
”Just as I thought, nothing but a man.”

I don’t quite understand why the pilot is viewed as cringe? I mean, the point is him being the opposite of chief aka an actual person with emotions and guttural reactions. If you think this dialogue is bad, I would hate to see what you think is good

I disagree.

The dialogue was actually my favorite part of the demo and had me really excited for the direction they’re going with the story. I loved the interaction between Chief and the pilot. It reminded me of the moment in Combat Evolved when Chief pats the marine on the shoulder as if to say “It’s going to be okay” only better. I really hope the pilot is a pivotal character in the game. I like him more than I did Locke.

As for the ending with the brute’s speech, I really liked it. Him talking up the Chief and himself as legends and how their stories are going to outlive them was awesome and made me hyped for the battle to come.

All in all, I am excited where they are going with both the dialogue and the story. It’s made me very hopeful that they learned from their mistakes in Halo 5.

I echo this statement, Escharum’s speech at the end was particularly good. I feel like the little dialogue we got from him and the pilot show that we’ll probably get more character development from them than a lot of other characters in the series.

I haven’t played Halo Wars 2 (just bought it today to prepare for Infinite) so I didn’t know he had a name, but I knew he had to be important.

I really hope you’re right. Contrary to what many people want, I hope the Chief gets a good amount of dialogue as well, despite being the “strong-silent type”. His dialogue is always great.

Do recommend Halo Wars 2, but Escharum isn’t in it. His name was revealed in the Infinite blog post. But do really recommend HW2, it’s one of my favorites lol

“Spartan,we thought yu deed”-In beginning of 1 minute Infinite trailer,Escharum sounds so cute:hugs::grinning::joy:

I just feel like the campaign is gonna end up being a bunch of hollow buildup to kill Escharum as if he were an endgame boss in any RPG of your choise.

I’m going to be real, while Darth Badguy’s speech at the end was kind of hokey and nowhere close to the menace of proper Brute villains like Tartarus and Atriox, Brohammer has already become one of my favorite characters. The fact that he’s like the polar opposite of the Chief sells it.

Yeah, the dramatic foil is like Creative Writing 101, but after Halo 5 that’s a massive improvement.

you mean like Tartarus. At the end of the day, its still a video game and the antagonist needs to be overcome. STarting basic is something I think infinite needs. They can introduce more “complex” antagonists as time goes on.

Escharum speech is good, but it got me somehow confused because it lacked context, it is the first time we see that Brute and we keep thinking: “who are you? Where is Atriox?” He talks like he is the most powerful ranked villain ever, but this is not really the case.

I dont know if you are saying you liked it or not. But all the dialogue lacked context. It was a demo that’s later in the game according to the 7/23 news post. So I think the dialogue will make more sense once we actually got the game.

We do not know the full context. This entirentread is pointless. It’s like asking for a pizza and you have not opened it and say you detest its taste make 0 sence.

pilots part feels ok for me
brute part feels bad, maybe I‘ll feel more hyped if the brute looks more handsome like atriox

I don’t get why Brohammer seems to get so much hate for the Dialogue, to me it sounded like a man who has been through some stuff, multiple times and just has enough and wants to go home.

We don’t know how long he was stranded in Space in “Discover Hope” but must have been a while because he is clearly devastated at the thought of never seeing his Family again and is about to give up on everything until “Tag Designation: Friendly” comes in, when clearly astounded to discover it’s none other the THE Spartan. The sense of hope and relief from him when the Chief awakens from is little “nap” and clearly thinking he will help him to get home only to get attacked by - what i now suspect - be the Banished, ready to just run, only to be talked down by John. We don’t know what happens between this and the Gameplay Reveal, but it’s several hours in and Brohammer probably has grown sick and (once again frustrated) by Chiefs desire to fight the Banished, as well as being trapped by the Enemy on and around the Installation, clearly trying to find a way to escape but thus far unsuccessful and now his Pelican is being shot down? Foehammer would probably react the same way and Chief just lets him vent, it’s not his first Marine loosing his sh**.

He then tries to guilt trip the Chief in a way by reminding him that without him he would still be a floating Metal Figurine in Space - which he is right about - and that the Chief should show some appreciation for - which he probably does by keeping his new buddy alive and promising him to look for a way to escape, with Brohammer reluctantly giving in.

I like the Pilot and the Buddy-Buddy Dynamic that the two have.

So why the hate? The Dialogue is not bad.
