It’s a completely new engine so of course it won’t look exactly the same. But my immediate reaction to the first person view was that I was looking at one of those Unreal Engine Halo fan games. Everything’s really crisp but also strangely textureless. There’s so much pop in on objects that are close up like grass but also for far away vistas. I really feel like 343 didn’t get enough time to nail the engine AND develop an entire open world game. I don’t think these things will get fixed either since this is a launch title. Really need to see more but right now I’m super worried.
Yeah, it feels like a fan game that you’d see a PC Gamer article titled “Someone Made an Open World Halo Demo in UE4!” And I do mean that lovingly, because there are some awesome fan projects…but isn’t this supposed to be on another level than that?
I’ve lost so much enthusiasm for this title. I’ll continue to check out new info as it comes out, but man…I just can’t get excited for this.
And like, the two and a half minutes of that Brute just bloviating…like I get sensory overload watching it–then with the soaring music in the background that just feels tacked on…it’s like when I’m really bored and try out all the hot sauces I have on mac & cheese before realizing I’m gonna be a little nauseous.
I really don’t want to be mean and I have nothing but love for 343 keeping Halo going and as someone who’s worked professionally in creative fields I know what goes into this kind of work–and it ain’t easy whatsoever–but this…can I just insert a GIF of Switch from The Matrix shaking her head saying “Not like this, not like this…”
It’s kind of like that Symphony X album after Iconoclast…like, I just get exhausted thinking about trying to listen to that again. It’s how I feel about this trailer. Watched it three times…can’t do it anymore.
