After playing Destiny I thought a game couldn’t get any worse, but now after playing H5 this has reached a new low.
And you want to know why? It isn’t because of sprint, it isn’t because of smartscope, it’s not even the OP automatics.
It’s these servers. This is the most rage inducing game I have ever played. I don’t care how laggy I am while I’m playing Destiny because at the end of the day I’ll still use some overpowered ability and get a triple kill, but this game? It’s so damn competitive if you’re just at the slightest disadvantage, you have absolutely no hope of winning.
I live in New Zealand and I keep getting put in American servers so my BR turns into a 6 shot kill and I only have 75% shields. I couldn’t even use the automatics if I wanted to because it takes more than a full clip to take someone out. And then there’s the grenades. You Americans think they’re so powerful? how about you step into my shoes where even if I thrust completely out of the blast zone, I’ll still take full damage because of all the lag going on.
In every single Halo game prior to this I won at least 66% of my games and would be the MVP of my team 9/10 matches. Now in H5 I’m normally dragging my team down at the bottom of the leader boards after we lose because I can’t kill anyone to save my life. To add to that I got lucky in my first ten matches so I’m stuck at the semi pro rank. Doesn’t matter how much I lose, I can’t seem to go back below the 1500 skill rating so I’m stuck playing against full coordinated teams of Americans which completely dominate me every match, as well as the fact all my other friends have stopped playing the beta so I can only search solo. The only thing saving me from a 0.1 KD ratio at the moment is the Prophets Bane/Energy Sword because that’s the only thing I can still (barely) use while all this lag is going on.
343i, all I ask is you make all us people overseas actually connect to servers that put us on even playing fields. This game is being ruined for me just because of the awful connection. If I could actually do decent enough I’d probably be enjoying this game, but at the moment it’s just so infuriating I can’t stand it.

West US servers are actually quite fast from NZ - perhaps MS will open up a new data center in NZ at some point.
I’d love to hear about how the dedicated servers work on Xbox live though - I haven’t ever been able to see any details (whether it uses all data centers, or is locked to specific ones - how much control the developers have control etc)
They just put dedicated servers here in Australia which is right next to New Zealand but it’s a beta. They obviously haven’t fleshed out the specifics of local server support. They will by release though. Don’t stress it.
For one, it is a beta. You can’t expected them to have local dedicated servers up for a game that is still almost a year from being complete. And two, you are in New Zealand. That whole Australian part of the world is usually the first on the list when it comes to terrible online multiplayer gaming since connections with the rest of the world can be so poor. Even being Stateside the connect with the servers haven’t been the best, because it is a beta, and part of the reason for the beta is to test out netcode and server functions. In all likelihood you’ll have to wait for the full game to see if that gets fleshed out, but you are probably out of luck right now.
Assault Rifle Starts only please. It makes the game way more fun. Vs Br starts where it becomes standoffs and strafing over and over all day long and no need for any other weapons. Bring back the AR starts only and forever. I believe this is the core problem with Halo now and in the past when the playlists started to have BR starts. You have these hardcore no lifers who play together in teams and do nothing but play halo begging for BR starts only. So they can sit back in a group of 4 and shoot and strafe. Well I believe that it takes the fun out of what halo was meant to be. When Halo CE was first played I remember playing with assault rifles we didn’t use the pistols because it wasn’t very much fun they were so overpowered an unbalanced and it ruined the game and no one would use any other gun. Then halo 2 came out and at first you used smg’s as starting weapons it was a blast and then came the BR starts added into the mix and it became less about having fun and more about sitting back and strafing back and forth again and no use for the smg or any other gun for that matter because once again the BR was overpowered. Then when Halo 3 first came out they had only AR starts and it was awesome I was like this is what halo was meant to be and all the weapons were being used then a few months later that they added BR starts and that is when the population started to decrease and it wasn’t as fun or balanced anymore. The majority of gamers play games for fun and they want variety. Please keep the fun by only having AR starts. I loved this beta at first but since the BR starts it has become stale and boring and not fun and once again no other weapons are being used because they are overpowered again. Please bring back the fun that halo can be by having assault rifle starts only. Who wants to use only one gun? Boring and not fun.

At least don’t make your topic name sound like clickbait. I know servers are bad unless you live in 'Murica. Trust me, I have the same problems. But holy hell. With everyone raving over how much Destiny sucks (which is true), saying Halo 5 is worse than Destiny is just going to aggravate everyone.
I live in New Zealand too and I know your pain. I haven’t found a game at all (I just installed the Beta). It’s unlucky to play Halo 5 from New Zealand right now :(.
I don’t know, I’m in NZ to and haven’t had any noticeable lag issues with H5 so far, though I have only play a little over a dozen games. Does take a little while to find games sometimes though, not as bad MCC at least.

Do you not understand what I’m trying to say? I never once said anything about the gameplay itself being bad, I’m talking about connections and you can’t just ‘adapt’ to that. Imagine 343i decided that your spartan does ½ the damage everyone else does so you are at an inherent disadvantage from everyone else and when you go ask 343i to fix your damage traits to be even with everyone elses, they just reply with “adapt”. Doesn’t sound very nice now does it?
I’ve heard some people compare the Halo 5 beta to games like Titanfall, Destiny, Call of Duty. I personally would rather be playing the Halo 5 beta than any of those games, and its a beta, almost a year from release, so I don’t understand why people continue to push these games. And if you would rather be playing those games, than why the hell are you on a halo forum? Oh… and how does enemies moving at the speed of a sea turtle on land take more skill to kill? If anything sprint forces you to work as a team to corner your enemies. Mobility allows you to change your perspective quickly to get that last shot off and get that guy hiding behind cover. As far as network connection, you do understand this is a beta right? Network issues tend to happen in betas, most of the time thats why they have betas, to test network stability. Hopefully when the actual game releases we won’t see another MCC.(ever)
