This game is ridiculously competitive

For reals… Halo 5 takes competitive Halo to a whole new level. I used to be fairly decent at past Halo games (earned 50s, Onyx, etc.). Now, I just get mauled.

Questions: how are you guys so damn good at this game? What have you changed from past Halo play to now? How does one get “better” at Halo 5?

I friggin’ love this game and want to get an Onyx/Champion one day (if possible).

It’s good to have goals. Go get em!

I think practice is the only way to become extremely good! I agree, this halo is really competitive!

Well I always play arena with a 4 man team… Don’t go solo!

Spectate some games. Go into theater.

I got crushed every match I played when I first started, but I’m getting to grips with it.

This Halo definitely feels like one I can improve at though.

Like the other said , I just try to practice and get as much time with the controls as possible . It’s also good to watch other people like another suggested above. , Working on gaming with different guns and timing of shots , along with visibility helps considerably .

Pretty much what everyone else has been saying. I found that really really knowing the maps helps too!

The best thing I started doing is to NOT aim down the sites unless you really need to. Once I stopped that I was getting a ton more bullets into opposing players and almost always put myself in a position to get a headshot and win the skirmish. Also, use the magnum unless you’re in a pretty tight space (or out of bullets).

  • Never 1v1 if you aren’t sure you will win. Instead back down and run directly to do something more meaningful like helping teammates. - Check your radar, not only for the red enemy dots, but also for the white dots that shows the positions of all your teammates at all times. With that information you can discern exactly where you will stay relatively safe and what directions you will be alone going towards. - Time power weapons (usually every 2 min for most) and be there to pick them up. Pick up camo at 11:55? Make sure youll pick it up again at 9:55, 7:55, 5:55 etc. - Learn the callouts for every map. They are displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen. If you don’t have a team, the spartan chatter can help you since they are calling out those exact callouts. - Constantly remind yourself of the first 4.

I was a scrub in Halo 3. Was constantly the worst person out of my friends. Then played a -Yoink- ton of Halo 4 and got better at map awareness, using all of the guns and team shotting. Now in Halo 5 I am the best player among my friends.

The best way to get better at it is just keep playing. Learn the maps and where people are most likely to try and shoot at you from. Then play with a team and work on callouts and team shooting.

All of the above suggestions are great. I also heard from a good player to try and be unpredictable. If the enemy can’t pin down your tactics you have an advantage.

I’m having problems with the hitboxes and where to aim on them :expressionless:
I don’t consider myself a beast at SWAT, but I did fairly good until Halo 5’s SWAT came around, don’t think I’ve seen that much respawn screens in a while.
This also carried over to normal mode, where even now I’m sometimes struggling with killing.

I got good kid.

This is the way Halo has been since the beginning, OP. Mainly at the point of Halo 2’s release due to Xbox Live getting more popular. There have typically been Social playlists in each Halo but it’s more so competitive with Halo 5.

Most people are above average in skill due to having played regularly for many franchise titles. I’m no pro but I’ve nabbed Gold-Platinum so far in Halo 5.

Excellent suggestions here. Thanks, Fellas!

I think spectating might help a bit… learning better angles. Hell, I may watch some Twitch every now-and-again.

In past halos youd want to aim at peoples necks to get the headshot. Now you want to aim for the very top of the head.

Spectating will help a little but I think its mainly a muscle memory and feel thing. Being able to get perfects on all your precision weapons is all about playing the game. Playing yourself is going to allow you to learn the feel and pace of each map. Knowing that when you are running around and you see your teammates spawn in certain areas to indicate a relatively safe area and knowing the most likely location for the enemy is something that watching others can help but not allow you to fully grasp it.

These are videos of pro gameplay with voice over discussing what the player did right/wrong, what his thinking likely was, etc. There are only a few Halo 5 videos but even the ones of older Halo’s helped me tremendously. I learn best when I am told why I am doing something so these were invaluable. Good luck!

Practice, practice, practice. As part of that learn your strengths and play to them. If you’re better at range, get really good with DMR and Snipers and focus your game on staying at a distance. If your good with grenades and shotguns try to play more aggressive or close quarters.
