This Game Is No Longer Fun.

When I bought this game I had very high expectations and believed that this Halo would be the Halo. The Halo to iron out all the issues past games had and to provide a multiplayer experience that no other game in the industry could, what with Forge, Custom Games, File Sharing, and so on. As a Halo fan I wanted to give you all, 343, a chance to right your wrong with the pathetic release of The Master Chief Collection that has seen very little support and effort to correct the issues that it had, resulting in a lacking population.

This game is arguably worse than that.

I’m not even going to bother with the fact that your campaign advertisement was blatantly thrown out the window in favor of some fanfic tier trash, but your multiplayer is severely lacking. With the new File Share system, playing Custom Games that friends and other people have made is damn near impossible. The idea that I have to add people to my friends list I don’t care for to simply play Custom Games that end up being broken any way by some unknown bug is beyond me. This example alone is enough to say you as a company have taken two steps backwards. Speaking of which, that brings me to Arena.

Why, oh why, oh why, is there no Social anything? Why is there so much emphasis on competitive play? Every time I get on this game, it has to be a competition. I and many others don’t find that fun. For a time I enjoyed getting a rank simply for the emblem because again, your playlists lack variety, but I and many other people don’t enjoy a ranked playlist and non-ranked playlists with hidden MMR being the only thing I can play. This doesn’t make sense to me. Why so much emphasis on a competitive environment?

“Oh you moron there’s Warzone.”

Warzone has even less variety. That’s not even an argument.

Four maps with the same events over and over and over. Warzone Assault? It’s almost always a one sided crush not to mention that the point of me ranting is that I don’t want to play the same gametype over and over.

“But Team Arena!”

The same issue is there. There are but so many combinations that can be had when you have a number of maps you can barely count on two hands and gametypes you can count on one.

This drives away so many players because they feel obligated to try so hard to play the game, not to mention the toxic atmosphere that engulfs your playlists. Having casual players, or players that simply don’t care for a ranking system that arbitrarily chooses how to rank people, creates a stale experience, and cultivates that toxic atmosphere; those who want to win so bad become hostile because someone’s not playing “up to par”.

Let those who want to play for keeps have their environment, and those who don’t care have theirs. It’s really that simple.

I want to revisit the fact that you have no Social playlists. You have your moments where you introduce your weekend playlists that have no ranking. Is this what you consider Social?

It’s not.

Having a playlist stay for about a week only to remove it without having to earn a rank isn’t a Social playlist. Handing us two Warzone weapons and branding it “Mythic Shotty Snipers” Isn’t a Social playlist. That’s closer to an Action Sack gametype than anything else.

It’s a temporary unranked playlist that ends up becoming a mask for you all to say that you’re listening to our requests and try to seem like the good guy. Bungie so far still has you beat when it comes to Social playlists. They didn’t retract much and the ones they did where playlists like 7 on the 7th and the Bungie Day community playlists and others I can’t think of. I’m almost certain that they had more maps in rotation in one playlist than you have in Warzone and Arena combined. I’m not even going to mention the gametypes.

Since Assault was introduced in it’s social playlist, which was honestly the most fun I had since I bought the game at midnight on release day, I have played it not once. That. Is. An. Issue.

I fail to see why you all over at the “Matchmaking Dept.” decide that we can’t have Social playlists after we beg and plead and ask nicely. Yeah, I know, not everyone asks nicely, but honestly, that’s not entirely their fault.

You shower us with near worthless content monthly to say “look free DLC! Love us!” when majority of your new content is just a rehash of what already exists in the game. It’s simply a thin blanket on another issue that I won’t get into because at this point because the topic is the lack of variety in your game.

Not to mention a lot of your armor is tasteless in terms of aesthetics.

I honestly don’t care if we don’t get anymore DLC. I’d much rather have a revised playlist hopper where I can have more variety in what I can play and who I can play with. If nothing changes between now and your Halo 6 release, I can only expect more of this pathetic “we’re listening to your feedback” trash you’ve been feeding us since release.

I think it’s saying something when, as someone who absolutely detests Activision as a company, and hates Call of Duty with a passion, went to play Black Ops III because it provided much more variety even if when the skill gap is near nonexistent.

I am asking that 343 take steps to improve their matchmaking. This isn’t really a debate. It’s simply something that needs to happen.

Depending on what happens between now and Halo 6’s release will determine if I buy Halo 6. Sorry, not sorry.

I really shouldn’t determine whether I’m going to purchase a game based on your current record, but when you think about it, it’s completely justified. You’ve proven too well that you will provide mediocre support and content for your games, so it’s only natural that I feel as though you’ll continue the pattern.

This honestly isn’t up for debate. This is something that simply needs to happen. The purpose of this post wasn’t to debate it with community members but you are all welcome to add your opinions. The purpose of this post is for it to be acknowledged by an employee of 343 Industries that will take action and not simply say “yeah I read it” with no course of action.

A courtesy tl;dr might have been nice.

I definitely agree with you on social playlists. Where’s Action Sack?

But about what I quoted here … um, yeah, you absolutely should determine whether you’re going to purchase a game based on the developer’s current record. We all should. Regardless of who or what. And hell, even then, it’s not a guarantee. I pre-ordered Destiny for one reason and one reason only: “Bungie”. And boy, was that a mistake.

And don’t apologize. Yes, what happens now should impact your decision in the future. With any game.

Was just thinking the same thing. I’d been waiting on the MCC for almost a half hour until I said -Yoink- it and put in Halo 5. The first game I played (because I’ve been playing MCC, Overwatch, and Doom) my aim was horrible. The aiming system in this game is the worst I’ve seen in a AAA FPS in years. There is something to be said about being able to pick up literally any other FPS and have it feel good and then playing Halo 5 and having to fight the controls the entire time.

When the point of the game is to struggle because “skill-gap” it really shows who they are making the game for. The sweaty kids. Naturally I go to play Warzone then, because it’s the only experience in the game that resembles anything close to a social experience, and I guess not surprisingly get put into a match in progress on Noctus where my team is locked down by 2 people using Nornfang. It was really fun. /s.

Looks like it’s back to Overwatch for me.

This isn’t something that I’m going to summarize.

This is a prevalent problem where details have to be layed out. Simply saying:

“This game isn’t fun because there’s no variety”

Isn’t enough elaboration. Variety concerning what? That’s why I made this post.

Granted it could be shorter but whatever.

I know I’m asking for a lot at the end but it can’t hurt to outright state my intent rather than cursing every other word thinking it would be the best way to get their attention.

Fully agreed. 343’s slowly but surely killing the Halo franchise with their absolutely abysmal way to handle numerous things.
I really wanna put some added weight onto the social playlist topic, and weekend playlists. Back in Halo 3, whenever I got home on friday and weekend started, I was always interested, excited even, to see what Bungie put in as the weekend playlist. Infection, VIP, Rocket Race, etc… there was a whole load of different playlists to be excited for, and every single one of them was perfectly suitable for casual weekend fun over a drink or two. What do we have now? Fcking shotty snipers? Is that what you consider ‘social weekend fun’? That belongs in action sack. Speaking of which - why isn’t the fcking ACTION SACK playlist permanent, either? Why is it rotating? Unless they’ve changed it recently, I don’t care enough to start up this pathetic excuse of a game anymore.
Also, what the hell happened to your artists and art directors and whatnot? How the f*ck can you accept all the absolutely repulsive and downright retarded helmet and armor designs the game is filled to the brim with? Does anyone important even look at the visual vomit the artists submit for release? Halo Wars 2 seems to have damn fantastic and -Yoink!- armor designs that actually look like they’re from the Halo universe, why can’t we have any of that in H5? Why are all the armors mutated plastic Bionicle rejects?
I’ve always considered myself a very avid Halo fanboy and a massive halo nerd, but at this point you’ve so successfully killed the series for me that I wouldn’t buy Halo 6 even if it turned out to be the perfect and best Halo game ever, simply because you don’t deserve my money, nor do you deserve anyone else’s.

This is beautiful. I hope it reaches someone. 343i doesn’t listen maybe another developer will rip the franchise out of their hands if we get lucky. Probably not. I am so with you when you say this Halo should of been the Halo. Disgrace.

Defs need Social Arena, and fill it with some of the awesome community maps like Inclement and White Cell

That cringey thread title though.

I really don’t understand why it’s so hard for 343 to make playlists

just do it exactly how Bungie did it, you buffoons.

I can agree fully with OP here. The Halo community fell in the hands of the bad parent. Bungee didn’t want us anymore so they passed us on to 343 and they have done everything wrong since. I can agree that playlists are a huge issue and need serious thought. I also don’t like the fact we have to re rank every month. After the Halo MCC and Halo 5 release I’m seriously doubting the future of this game.

I understand where your frustration is coming from, but unless something like that is actually written by my wife or the 343i staff, it’s a bit too much time to devote to reading one author’s initial post.

Alright, thanks for stopping by. Good luck, and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

I think it may boil down to the fact that the people interested in social playlists have a hell of a lot of good games to choose from. How patient can one be for social playlists to come out? I think h5 population is lower than we’ve been led to believe.

I miss social playlists as well btw. Ranked games feel like a chore now. I remember thinking “I need to play 8 more games to get the June emblem” and then my logical side said “-Yoink- off m8 you use the rail gun emblem and never change it so play what you want to play.”

Don’t hold your breath. 343i reps rarely come by Waypoint, but even when they do, it’s not to acknowledge one person’s post and let them know they are working on whatever that person wants.
True enough, Halo 5’s Arena needs some better social aspects, both in playlist variety and in mentality. Halo 5’s social slayer doesn’t really feel like social slayer when teams of really good players are able to steamroll through in order to pad their K/D. The social playlists in general could benefit from separate stat tracking from the ranked playlists, so that the incentive to go into the social playlists in order to increase global K/D is no longer there.
All I can say for you is, if the game is no longer fun, stop playing. That’s not said as an insult, but just as advice: time is precious, and especially with something like games should be enjoyable, not frustrating. 343i is less likely to notice posts in the forums than a massively dwindling population or low sales from their next game. I do think that everyone who believes Halo 5 could have and should have been done better should not preorder Halo 6, and should rather wait to see the finished product and whether 343i addressed concerns brought up in this game.

This is the most true thing I have ever read…

No Overwatch, TF2.

Overwatch is better than TF2. Plus it’s not available on the Xbox One.
