This game is great, Silence griefers!

I just want to say that I am continually impressed with how well 343 is doing so far. First game so sure, there’s bound to be bumps and bugs all over the place. But honestly there are a lot less than I expected. This weeks SPOPS was a very huge relief. No recycled maps! Multiplayer is still doing well despite what people (the ones who tear down every single game cough my best friend cough because it’s not perfect). This is just a little congratulatory post to the guys n gals over at 343

Being mad for no reason and speaking about issues currently in the game are two very different things.

There are SO many issues with War Games that it’s not even funny. Clearly you’ve seen the forums and know about the backlash. I shouldn’t have to explain it to you.

We don’t require perfection to be happy. Look at any video game ever and you’ll see quirks that aren’t meant to be there. Halo 2 has superjumps and BXR, Halo 3 had Forge glitches, and Reach had issues with bloom, to name a few.

But what does matter are things that should work normally and aren’t, or things that shouldn’t have ever been introduced to the game.

Join in progress, random ordnance, instant spawns, etc. The list could go on for pages.

Stop acting like 343i is doing everything right. It’s people like you that limit real progress in society, as well as in video games. Progress is only achieved through criticism, not blind support.

Random ordinance isn’t a problem. It’s just different. It’s actually implemented pretty well.

Instant spawns are an improvement.

JIP is OK in some lists (BtB) and stupid in others (Team Slayer) but with some tweaking and maybe an opt-out preference it would be fine.

The game is worlds better than Reach, and it’s as fun as H2/H3, which is a huge success for 343. There’s room to improve, but I’ve basically only seen 3 types of complaints leveled at this game (from people who think it’s bad, not people who think it’s good just needs a minor tweak here or there):

  1. People who are bad at the game and conclude that the game is bad as a result (boltshot QQing would go here most of the time, for example)

  2. People who are deathly and mindlessly afraid of anything that even smells like CoD (All “Call of Halo” comments/threads go here)

  3. People who have their Halo 2 nostalgia goggles on and basically just want Halo 2 back.

And remember, Halo 2 and Halo 3 had minor things that could have been improved on as well. I think H4 is basically in the same boat that H2 and H3 were in terms of how much room is left for improvement.

To be clear I was more talking about the people who are just down right rude about how it’s not fair and everything should be curtailed to their designs. I think we can all be courteous in our formal complaints about issues we are having with the game can we not? I was merely posting to just say I for one am enjoying the game and look forward to how it will progress down the line as we play it more.

Completely agree. Nothing I hate more than blind supporters.

Even if a game is great, people should voice their criticisms. Even if you write an A paper, the professor has still probably marked many corrections throughout the paper.

He isn’t a blind supporter he is just stating his opinion. Some people get so worked up over opinions.

Blind supporter? Far from it. I’m just saying let’s give em a chance you know? They very well could be the guys to absolutely slaughter the franchise. or Bring it to a whole new level of awesome. Who knows. I like how I tried to bring one positive thread into the mix and you all have to denounce it. Bunch of crabby PMS’ers you all are…

  1. Your “positive” thread sounds exactly like all other blind posts supporting 343i. They haven’t done enough to earn my respect yet, so stop acting like they have.

  2. I like how I try to provide reasons why I think the game is terrible, but you don’t even address them.

  3. I like how you first say you try to bring positiveness into the threads, but then call anyone who disagrees with you a “PMS-er”. LOL You are not very bright, I guess.

Wrong.

Random ordnance is as its name implies - random. Nothing in Halo should ever be random. Halo is (was?) a knowledge game as much as it is a shooting game. You need to know where enemies are, what weapons they have, etc. You can’t do that with random weapon drops.

Halo is (was?) also about fairness and equality. That’s gone now. One team can pick up two Rockets, while my team picks up a Needler and Speed Boost. Not fair.

Instant respawn is far from an improvement. I’m happy it’s there, because Octagon is easy to make now without glitches, but I’m terribly disappointed that it’s in War Games. Team set-ups are pointless. Having a health system is pointless. I’m constantly having to run for cover because I get into a battle, kill the enemy, but he respawns halfway across the map and finishes me off with his mini-sniper.

Join in progress is a terrible addition to the game. It works in COD because it doesn’t matter whether you start the game on time. In Halo, things like weapons, vehicles, and map positions are taken if you join mid-way through, and I haven’t even touched on the topic of how much of a failure it is.

Starting games 3v4, 4v5, 2v5, 1v8, etc. should never happen. Also, join in progress adds tons of black screens and host changes, and somehow I always end up dead after these.

I personally don’t find it anywhere near as fun as Halo 3. I used to sit down and play that game for 6-8 hours straight, and I played it almost every day for several years. I’ve barely picked up Halo 4 so far, simply because of the massive amounts of BS that are occurring.

I agree that starting games unbalanced is silly and shouldn’t ever happen (how did this get through testing?).

I also agree that there can be downsides to instant respawn, though there are big upsides as well (it prevents a team setting up to camp one spot, it speeds up the pace of the game, and it allows you to keep pressure on power weapon users more easily).

Halo 4 is a more dymanic game than previous Halo games. Previous Halo games had typically one dominant strategy per map for winning, and the game was usually a contest of who could execute that strategy most effectively (obviously this is a generalization, but as a generalization it works). Now, you cannot have one strategy for winning. You have to think on your feet and work dynamically with your team to win.

Random ordinance drops are not that big a deal. The DMR is powerful enough that you can deal with a power weapon user if you are working with your team. I do think they would benefit from having a checks & balances system placed on team ordinance drops (e.g. keep a count of power weapons given to a team and don’t give a sniper rifle to a guy when his teammate just got a sniper rifle). However, ordinances are only unbalanced in the scenario where one team gets multiple power weapons simultaneously while the other team doesn’t. In a couple hundred games so far, I’ve seen that happen about twice. Not a huge deal.

Is this game as competitive as H2/H3? I don’t think so. Is it as fun? I do think so. Is it more competitive than Reach? Yup. Is it more fun than Reach? Yup.

That’s a win in my book.

You just sound like another little sheep, you going to buy all the map packs too? That’s right, remember, 343i loves you!
