This doesn't sound right...

Go to 38:47 shouldn’t he have said “This is UNSC Spartan 117” instead of “This is UNSC Master Chief”? The way he says it it just sounds dumb.

Cheif refers to himself as either one, Spartan 117, Master cheif, Same guy

Master Chief refers to his rank. So, ya. That doesn’t really make any sense considering Master Chief could be any random Master Chief instead of Spartan 117.

Although I think Chief, during his four year absence, achieved a sort of Mythic aura about himself and his legacy. I suppose thats what destroying the Covenant and Flood basically by himself earns him. So he can probably refer to himself as whateverdahell he wants to and nobody will mind, lol.

Master Chief is a rank, not a name. It’s short for “Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy.” In the real world U.S. Navy, there’s only one of those at a time, pretty sure it’s the same in the Halo Universe. While the UNSC probably promoted someone else to MCPON in the five years that John 117 and Cortana were missing, John is properly identifying himself by rank.

Except he shouldn’t be referring to himself by rank. He should be telling them who he is.

“Hello this is UNSC Lieutenant” How does that make sense? Lt. WHO?

Because some people think Halo is about Master Chief.

It makes sense because there is only one Master Chief at a time, so he doesn’t need to say his name… Duh
