This Community used to mean something

Let me start by saying that I’ve been with this series since its beginnings, I loved this game with all my heart and I loved the community behind it that created so much for not only me, but for the others in this community…But that’s all changed as of late.
Halo 2 brought something to the table, which was online play and thus more ways to connect with friends, people actually helped each other get better and now we have pro teams out there winning games for people like us.

But lately, everything in this community has changed, its all just become a rag fest of who has the best K/D and all that, back then, that stuff didn’t matter at all to players like us, we just played the game and if we lost, we lost…Now, if someone loses, they scream at their teammates who tried to help and call them fags or losers because their K/D was awful.

K/D has just become this poison within the Community and that’s all anyone ever cares about anymore, no one helps others get better, its all about those fake numbers that show people either how good they are or how low they went to get to where they are, such as the recent farming and backstabbing people have received for a stupid piece of armor.

Bungie had one goal in mind when they created Halo, Have fun, slowly that become something else however once K/D was introduced into the mix, along with new weapons, people started to complain, call nerfs on weapons and by Halo 3, it was so unbalanced, it wasn’t fun anymore, then Halo 5 came out a few years later after Halo 4 and it just all got worse…K/D is all anyone cares about, if you have a low K/D and post on here, you get -Yoink- on by the masses of people with a higher K/D and call you a troll, while back in the day of Halo 2 or 3, people would sit down and help you get better.

With the introduction of Achilles (who’s lore makes absolutely no sense, among many other problems as of late) people have literally tricked members into getting the accommodation or close to it, then kick members out and finish the job themselves, or better yet, they bribe people to pay real money to get back into the Spartan Company to get this silly piece of armor.

This community used to mean something once…Now its just nothing but toxic, I’m sure a lot of you agree on this too, even old Halo vets like me, I don’t have a high K/D like most because I have a job, I have a life now and can’t spend every waking hour trying to boost fake stats that won’t even impress the best business men out their…

I’m on the fence on leaving this community and just moving on, but how can I after years spent playing with friends and having great times?

If you guys agree, post and hopefully, someday, we can make this community good again.

Honestly I stopped care about KDR a while ago and that was best decision ever.

The Community about 60% are just whining about that stuff are imbalanced.

yep just like that.

I’m pretty certain the community has always been toxic save for the few pockets that received attention.

It’s a new generation of gamers, raised by CoD and MLG. There are still plenty of decent people on in their own pockets, yet to receive their due attention.

I dont care about my K/D ratio in online games. Stopped caring about after CoD 4.

I know my Halo 5 one sucks but I still love playing the game. All about the fun factor for me.

But people like us are being drowned out.

CoD 4 was all about the KD. -Yoink- knows why! I started playing Domination in Black Ops 1, then KD no longer mattered. As long as the team got the win. Now its just a case of win or lose, I enjoy myself!

I don’t know what anyone else can say but I’m putting it down to maturity. There is too much stress and bs in real life to care about the statistics of a game.

Using MLG and COD as the main reason is abit unfair as yes some people might of been from there but others can be from games like fifa or forza or other non xbox games like PC. Honestly this newer generation have got stuff we didn’t have when we were little and now they have smartphones and snapchats and xbox live etc, we didn’t have all that but they do and because of how intoxicating the internet has become and how most of the certain community have promoted stupid BS the past few years has brought out the derpyiest/ arsiest in people. There are people who are the exception and that is great but get overshadowed by stupid memes and silly BS for game ideas and sadly cause of the changes game companies are doing to please the newer fanbase affects ours it is a shame both generations cant have a win win but could be wrong.

I ENTICE someone to check my k/d in all my Halo games, go on… Oh its bad? That isn’t because i’m a rubbish player. It means i was diving in there hooves first having FUN while trying to win NOT TRYING TO JUST WIN. The OP is right but not so much regarding us Veterans of Halo 2 and 3 or Reach, Its the new generation of gamers coming into this community muddying the waters. I remember the time you could party up with people you had 3 awesome games together then help with MP achievements, i remember after every match we used to say how awesome shinji’s sniper double headshot was cracking then he complimented my onr rocket that hit him from the other side of the map as he zoomed out. Now it is just GG to random team members wether we win or lose and it’s either for you or The team was crap moan moan.
I loved the old days, i loved the community back then. But now it seems to be crumbling and it kind of makes me sad. Now i play and think yes we won or damn we lost with nothing in between. Maybe k/d needs to be a thing of the past and people should try more to be engaging in general.

Most players only obsesses over K/D because the game keeps on throwing it in their faces at the end of each match. As a result, the players become conscious of this stat and then try to do everything to improve it. For this reason, H:CE is my favorite Halo game because stats were never tracked in that game, which meant that the game was more enjoyable to play. these days, a lot of players (myself included) worry about their stats being impacted by a poor performance leading to quits, not playing certain game modes, or playing the game but not enjoying it. All three of these attributes would disappear if the game only tracked the win-loss ratio of each player and did not track the K/D ratio at all (and made it difficult for third party sites to track your stats as well).

Sounds to me that the community is more about Matchmaking/online play and all the nitty-gritty of that than Campaign. It makes me feel a little isolated, since 1) I don’t want to spend money on XBLG and 2) I’m not a competitive player. I apologize if this detracts from your post, OP, but for me it is relevant. If people are getting all hyped about K/D stats, then that therefore means that most of the community cares more about mulitplayer/competitive gameplay. One needs only look at the forums here to see most discussions are about multiplayer.

Well, as someone else in the thread has stated, one major reason why this community is all about K/D ratios now, is because the game throws that statistic right in our face at the end of each map, AND, it is visible on our overall statistics. If the game was less focused on K/D, and just gave us two numbers that showed how many kills and how many deaths we have, I think that people would less focused on K/D.

Another problem is, in my opinion, we have opened up Halo to almost everybody now. I know people do not agree with me, but Halo 5 has joined the realm of fast paced FPS games with too much mobility, which means we are getting the unsavory Call of Duty types who think that this game (because of its combat and movement mechanics) is just like COD. I think the best way to challenge this, is to go to what made Halo as far from Call of Duty as it was in the first place. If Call of Duty is left on the FPS spectrum, then Halo should go back to the right, instead of lurking around the middle trying to bring in Call of Duty bros. Again, my opinion.

I would argue to say you haven’t been in the right sub-community. Every Community will have their bad apples. But you need find yourself a sub group of people that you can just enjoy the game with. The community we have built around our podcast I dont think is rivaled by any sub community in Halo. Just food for thought.

I also agree that there is too much focus on K/D. K/D isn’t the defining factor of a good gamer. I’ve played with some really nice, fun people who, quite honestly, suck at games, but that’s ok. I’d much rather play with someone like that than someone who is super focused on being better than everyone else.
Allow me to provide an example: I was playing a community custom game night with users from B.net. I had in my lobby an example of a player who is not particularly good at games, but was super chill and fun to play with, and was willing to experiment with a variety of gametypes, including the really silly ones. I also had a player in the lobby who only wanted to play gametypes that involved the traditional shooting people, so he could show off his skill and dominate. In a custom game night. Guess which person I friended, and guess which one I eventually muted?

hypercompetition will destroy us all, sometimes we need to return to that couch co-op feel and chill, have a barrel of laughs, goof off in forge. I want a halo where I feel satisfied even if I do not win. I may have had a bad K/D in the past games however I have some fantastic moments and funny inside jokes that my friends still remember to this day.

I used to be on the bungie forums and I can’t see any change honestly, every forum of any game Ive ever been on always follows the same patterns, I just ignore the stupidity where possible

Don’t do that, cause then the stat-flamers win.
