This is border-line nonconstructive.

And we’re not PlayStation Fanboys, we are dedicated members of the community that have every right to express our opinion about the choices that 343i has made with Halo 4. Sometimes our opinions can be the opposite of optimistic, but it is clear that there are many things in Halo 4 that need improvement.

Also, there’s no need to flame other members, especially when a Halo Waypoint Moderator posted 9 minutes before you.

I personally believe that hiring people who thought Halo would be better if it was more like other popular shooters instead of creating something objectively new was a bad idea, but that’s just me.

OT: The community definitely took it too far. I can’t say I entirely blame them, but they really do need to tone it down.

There’s a fine line between angry criticism and dev bashing, and many communities cross that line.

The majority of the flame posts that I have seen came closer to the release of the game. There are still a few of those new flame posts, but they are posted in large by players who have just created accounts.

But there are several posts that are critical of 343, yet they are constructive and attempt to point out flaws that hopefully 343 can fix.

I wouldn’t say at this point in time the community has gone to far. There are plenty of flaws with this game, and so you can expect that there would be equally as many negative posts.

Not all of the flame posts seem to be about Halo 4 specifically either. I was just on the wiki and there were people saying some considerably and irrationally harsh things about 343 just because of a character’s dialogue in a comic. =/
There wasn’t anything constructive about it either - was just hate hate hate.

Am I the only one who thinks that 343’s main priority shouldn’t be competing with CoD? Seriously, the masses are going to gravitate towards Herpy Derpy generic military shooters that do the same thing over and over again no matter what. I, and I suspect a number of Halo fans, much prefer a space-opera science-fiction series with games that are not afraid to experiment like Reach and Halo 4 over a franchise that merely grinds out the SOS every year. If you love Halo 3 so much, why not go play it? New games in a franchise should be different, they should evolve and change.

I don’t know if most of you even remember when Halo 2 or 3 came out, but Bungie’s forums were filled with people complaining about dual wielding (in 2) and equipment (in 3) and how Bungie had ruined Halo by changing too much; it was the cool thing to do. Now, it is apparently cool to complain (ad nauseum, beyond any point of potential constructiveness) about Halo 4; it’s an ongoing cycle of butthurt that occurs in the fandom of every franchise and it will never end, period.

I haven’t checked the forums in quite a bit and found your post.

Before I stopped playing Halo 4, which I haven’t touched in months now, I was one of the players left dissatisfied with Halo 4. I ranted, discussed and dissected what I and others felt was wrong with the newest installation in the series. EVERYTHING others and I disliked about the new game was written about time and time again.

Threads discussing the problems in Halo 4 were all over the forum, the best of which garnered 120+ pages of agreements and discussion.

The people who disliked Halo 4 who cared enough to make the arguments over and over got tired of making those arguments. The game wasn’t changed. Then those that were dissatisfied quit playing and moved on. Like myself, they just stopped playing.

I probably won’t play Halo 4 multiplayer again. I tried to enjoy it, but the longer I played it the less enjoyable I felt it was. I think I was forcing myself to like it because it was new. That phase is now over.

The real sign of how badly Halo 4 has sunk my view of the franchise is that when Halo 5 comes out I will probably try to find someone who has the game already and play it before I buy it. If it is like Halo 4, I won’t buy it. Before Halo 4 the question wasn’t IF I would buy it, the question was how many hours before midnight was I showing up to buy the next Halo game.

I do not like the changes made by 343 to Halo. If you do, that is perfectly fine.

Not everyone who dislikes Halo 4 has a burning hatred of 343. 343 owns the property now, they can make changes as they see fit. I’m just not going to buy their product.

Bungie was very good at innovating and adding new features that complemented the gameplay, not detracted from it, in a way that the majority of fans would like. If you look at Halo 4’s multiplayer, you can see that everything it is was either already put in place by Bungie in previous Halos or taken almost directly from Call of Duty. I really don’t see much innovation in Halo 4’s multiplayer, and the additions and changes they made detracted from the strategic, teamwork-encouraging gameplay we’ve grown fond of.

Some people will complain about the changes in any new game in any franchise. The large majority usually switch to the new game though. Halo 4 is a different case in that more fans left than stayed.

Here’s hoping that 343i realizes that Halo didn’t need to change in order to compete with other games. It merely needed to build up what it already had. (Offering constructive insight, not flaming)

Previous Halo titles held their own and maintained population. This is fact. Speculation arises when questioning why Reach and H4 did relatively poorly. Im my opinion, the reason stems from what people liked in Halo before these. They liked the BR, they liked Master Chief, but a character and a weapon don’t make the gameplay itself something great. Halo was simplistic, with everyone spawning at equal footing, allowing better players to succeed due to skill. With everyone having the same core abilities, equipment and therefore map control became of paramount importance. Today, Halo is (comparatively) complicated, unnecessarily so, with loadouts mimicking more mainstreak FPS games, personal gameplay modifiers that changed how people would play, sometimes for the worse. “Resupply” has been a standard and innate ability in earlier games, but now is portrayed as one such modifier. Being able to choose what weapons to spawn with brought with it consequences concerning how people would play, how easily players could stop vehicles, etc. These additions may sound cool, some would say “innovative” even though its in many other games, but the point is that it wasn’t how Halo was expected to play. Map control has lost its emphasis, power weapons can be called down to your location, and you can spawn with the ability to become invisible. I’m not saying AAs are a bad addition, just feel that it would be better (in my opinion) to place them on the maps along with weapons and watch as their usage would come to mean something more.

During my 'Break’from Halo 4, I grabbed my copy of Halo 3 and had the most fun I have ever had while playing on my Xbox, Halo 3 IS a Great Game And if 343 Made halo 5 a Halo 3 ‘Remake’ I, And I’m sure everyone else would be exceptionally Happy!

Exactly, Halo and CoD have both had loyal fanbases. CoD knows what kind of game it is and doesn’t usually deviate from that. Halo has, in recent years, tried to diversify itself and wound up alienating much of its fanbase. The numbers don’t lie: This month, Blops 2 has been #1, with H4 being #8…

Halo needs to return to its roots and grow from there, rather than try to replant itself a bit closer to the mainstream, where the CoD live, if you know what I mean. Sorry for the word play, but it had to be done :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Halo 4 had amazing visuals and audio. I also enjoyed the campaign (for the most part). A challenging boss fight for an ender would have been more appropriate.

That being said, this games biggest downfall was the removal of visible ranks (1-50). I’m not going to bother explaining why, you understand their importance if you’re a true fan.

There were a lot of other poor gameplay mechanics they tried to implement. Bottom line is Halo doesn’t need to borrow gimmicks from generic shooters.

Halo 4 was a watered down noob friendly attempt at winning over the COD crowd.

I have high hopes for Halo 5. Unless they’re absolutely clueless, I strongly believe they will get it right this time around… But then again, I said that about Halo 4 after Halo Reach and it’s pathetic “arena” playlist.

I don’t think that Halo 4 is dying, but it’s certainly not doing well. I think that the fact that 343i continues to maintain it – despite the apparently low probability of its population ever increasing by a significant margin and then remaining increased – is a testament to their dedication to, and care for, the franchise.

I very much agree with both statements. If they really didn’t care about Halo 4, they’d just drop it entirely and not bother trying to update it - the Champions DLC included.

I played Halo 2 pre-patch and it makes Halo 4 look like a Wii title.

Halo 4 multiplayer is utter garbage compared to Halo 2.

The fact that a game released in 2004 had more features than a title released nearly a decade later is an embarrassment.
