This Changes All Arguements!

There are many out there who complain about those who want bigger maps, bigger population, bigger amount of detail, bigger everything!

Saying: Impossible! The game will be terribly slow or crappy if we had big maps or alot of detail!

What if Microsoft got a hand of this engine technology which is actually close to finish…?

Graphics Engine

Now whether this is only for PC or for PC and consoles, just imagine, would this change your point of view?

EDIT: This will actually be supported for consoles. On their home website it claims they were granted 2 Million by the government to help. This engine will be used for multi-platform so even mobile phones will be able to use it.

That would be awesome!

Arguments.

By the way, no, it doesn’t change all arguments. Just a few. It’s a nice thought, though.

What would that do again?
>Not good with computers, couldn’t understand what that guy was talking about.

Lol basically there would be so much detail that everything will look real and there will be an unlimited use so you can have real life looking maps that are HUGE instead of the graphics we have now where textures look like blobs or the shapes aren’t detailed much.

Is this that atom -Yoink-?

Sure, it looks great… if you want static environments with no animations whatsoever - in character models and scenery alike.

If Halo’s graphics were ever like that, I think I’d cry… In a good way of course.

no this changes nothing. this video is pretty old

Did you even watch the whole video? The demo was created by programmers, so of course it’s not going to be that incredible. However, their goal is to make this atom technology the next step for games. Thus, they are making sure it works in a game environment. Just because they didn’t show something doesn’t mean it’s not in the works (something else stated in the video).

More on Topic: We probably won’t see this sort of thing used in games until the next console cycle, so 2014 at the earliest. Still, when it comes, I sure as hell cannot wait!

I know this video is old but maybe some forum users have never seen it.

I watched the video a few months ago.

Doesn’t change the fact that animations are impossible.

well ur title begs to differ lol

Oh…then yeah, It would be great if microsoft could get their hands on it and let 343 use it.

How do you know animations are impossible? Again, just because it wasn’t there doesn’t mean it’s impossible. The tech is being built for games.

It’s not possible to arrange those ‘atoms’ without immense processing power. You’re talking about a processor that has to calculate the real-time positions of billions of atoms at one time. Let’s not even mention the impact a physics engine, collision mapping and dynamic lighting would have on performance.

It’s not possible. At least any time in the future. Polygons are a far more viable option.

I don’t think bigger is always better. Thats stupid.

I beg to differ. There was an interview with the company, and they actually looked into their little demonstration map and used an Xbox controller and mouse to navigate through the map with little CPU usage and lag.

Here’s the link: Interview

Um if the maps are the sizes of halo CE-2 maps then everybody well be fine. The maps have been getting smaller and more focused on mid-range combat than vehicle play.

I don’t think this changes anything. Mainly because that can only run at 25 fps on a computer, yet alone on a console.

Funny, was thinking about this same video today, before seeing your post.only halo 6 has a chance of getting near this
