Although you can’t use Chiefs Halo 4 helmet you can use his helmet from Halo 3 though.
As for why I reckon it was done to make Chief more of a unique Spartan (something like that).

Well, not Halo 4’s Master Chief MK VI, because it has been upgraded by Cortana for Master Chief alone. But we get to unlock the original Mark VI helmet from past Halo’s if you complete the Campaign on Legendary.
So you can after all use the Master Chief helmet in multiplayer? Halo 3 helmet or Halo 4 helmet? And is this confirmed? Thanks.

Makes sense. At least its possible to use a Master Chief helmet in multiplayer bc I wouldnt use anything else.
There is a normal Spartan Mjolnir helmet in the game, I do think its the one from Halo 3. I’ve had it on my spartan at the eurogamer expo, it is in there. That is legit proof from someone who has played the game. Also the guys in RvB are using the old Halo helmet as well even though they seem to be using an old build (Or using the flying monitor mode that stops game rendering).

Me neither, I will have the Campaign completed multiple times before I even touch Multiplayer. So I will be wearing it from my first untill my last match in Halo 4, for ever!

More specifically, you can currently only use Mark VI Gen 1. Gen 2 is not available.
What? So halo 4’s master chief will not be available? Source pl0x, and can someone tell me how to unlock helmets? And how do I unlock Warrior?
Master Chief’s helmet from the campaign is not unlockable from what we’ve seen so far. Completing the campaign on Legendary gives you access to the Mark IV armor. I do not have a source but I know it’s true. If you need further clarification Google is your friend.

both the halo 4 version and halo 3 version of the MK VI helmet are wearable in multiplayer/spartan ops.

Nope, that unlocks the Halo 3 version.
