This campaign, what happened?

I have seen this line of thought posted on various forums as well as the actual game review page for xbox.

What was 343 trying to do? I thought they might have learned their lesson after halo 4 to Halo 5 that they need to bridge the games, not leave us in a cliffhanger then make an entirely different game.

We never got to see the reunion at the end of Halo 5 or even just some character/world building after that point.

We never got to experience any of the threat of the AIs and Guardians, nor do we engage Cortana.

We don’t get to experience any of the fight for the infinity.

We don’t see or interact with any franchise characters in the entire game.

It seemed like they were trying to mimic what Bungie did right with CE but all they did was reduce the story and give an open world that is just a rinse and repeat of tough enemies with a couple paragraphs of lore. Mow em down in the warthog and they are done.

I am a huge fan of the Halo Wars series and am a huge fan of Cutter, Red Team, and the Spirit of Fire. That they didn’t show up at all, is unbelievable. There was an awesome fanfiction someone over on reddit made where they expanded the entire final run through that canyon where Red Team and the Spirit of Fire helped Chief smash the Banished defenses. They even had Shipmaster defect from the Banished and bring his Elites with Cutter. I love epic scenarios like that.

I don’t understand what their goal was with this storyline, it didn’t fit in the game sequence, didn’t make sense based on our current knowledge of the halo universe, and for being a year late seems to be lacking a great deal. Not to say too much about MP but, how are there only 3 BTB maps and warzone isnt even in it?

Have they offered any clarification? Have there been any 3rd party sources that can tell us where everyone else is at?

By just expanding portions of the game they could have included so much more and with some much time to make it, it doesn’t make sense.

I liked how they gave everything a bit of a reset.

A smaller, self contained story. Good for new players.

I enjoyed the passing of the baton from Cortana to the weapon. Cortana was too far gone… too powerful… and I really wasn’t looking forward to Chief spending another game trying to reason and connect with her. It was cringy enough in H5.

This way Cortana’s arc had a bit of redemption.

I agree there is so much more to tell. So many other characters that we would like to see fulfilled. And hopefully we do.

As an example… a DLC where you play one of the other Spartan’s on the Infinity as it fell would be awesome.

“What was 343 trying to do?”

The short answer is they were trying to do too much.

  1. Fix the Halo5 retcon storyline

  2. To introduce new players to the game

  3. To make Halo an open world live service game

  4. [Fill in the blank]

  5. …
    .

Yes. Yes . Yes. A million times. Yes.

BRIDGE THE GAMES.

That is the major flaw with this campagin. And I mean MAJOR.

They should’ve finished off the reclaimer sage and THEN make halo infinites story

Dlc won’t fix anything. We need the story between halo infinite and Halo 5. Not the story AFTER halo infinite
