This -blam!- ranking system WTF.

Like seriously, me and a group of 2 others (Fireteam of 3) go and play some Swat, just cause I want a rank in it. One of which is already diamond…her k/d in the playlist is beyond negative (-1.4) with 62 games and 28 wins. She went up Diamond 1-3 while we were playing. My other friend, who was 4 games into his placement ALSO placed Diamond upon finishing. 14 games, 9 wins -5.2 k/d…

So how in the -blammin!- -blam!- is this stupid -blam!- going to place me in -blam!- Platinum when I pull a 6 wins out of 10 games and 8.9 kda spread during the duration we played to get my placement. Majority of those games were led by me on top of the list in both kills, assists, and least deaths.

The system is CLEARLY flawed, no wonder people keep -Yoinking!- that the people they play against are too hard for them. They are getting placed where they don’t belong…and the fact that there is no deranking (Diamond to Plat to Gold etc) just makes it all the more impossible for them to be their “true rank”

I even got placed Gold with friends who got placed Diamond who don’t play at the same competitive level that I do in Arena. This seriously needs to see an adjustment by the time Seasons comes out or I fear terrible things. I had to fight my way out of Gold and into Plat, now I’ve got to fight through 2 playlists to at least get to my true placement. I mean, I get Onyx in FFA…this -blam!- is whack…

I’m Diamond 3 in Slayer and I can say this ranking system really does not work at all. I just played a game where only me and one teammate were worth anything. The other two teammates could barely win fights, had more than double their kills in deaths, and had no idea how to move around the map and control it. It was a very frustrating experience when Slayer is the one playlist that I actually care about my rank. I feel like at Diamond, I shouldn’t be getting players like this. I like the idea of having placement matches so that you don’t have to climb the ranks to reach where you belong on the scale, but it doesn’t work in this game

Yeah it doesn’t make any sense to me how this system works. The weirdest part is how they expect to match people correctly while they play with people lower than them.

I completely agree. I have played League, Smite, CoD and other games that work placement games like this. Your own performance is still reflected in your wins, so that when everyone is getting placed. Someone who obviously didn’t contribute to the game isn’t holding your own rank back, regardless of the loss. Kills/Deaths/Assists should all be taken into effect when the MMR is calculating your true placement. But with the current way I see things going…I’m afraid to hold my breath.

I’m still on edge about finishing Team Arena with only 3 games played at the moment, for a current 3 wins (100%) while holding a 17.1 KDA (55/8/13) If this isn’t even reflected in the remaining 7 games, then what is the purpose of even having these fake placements.

Who cares what it says in the early stages. You know the rank will be correct once you have several dozen or even hundreds of games under your belt. If you win the majority of them you will rank up until you hit a point where your skill matches the enemy. Same goes for if the game ranked you Onyx and you aren’t the best player and got lucky. You will drop fast and be in your appropriate rank. People don’t understand this? It’s only 10 games it measures from…

I wish everyone would understand this. Your true rank will show in the end. Just keep playing!

Yes…They will be reset on a monthly basis or Seasoned basis come December…There is a reason you’re so supposed to get PLACED at your correct skill level.

If this weren’t the case you’d be able to derank from Gold to Silver or Diamond to Plat. But no, you wont “You will drop fast and be in your appropriate rank.” as Beyond says, because there is NO deranking…you can be a terrible player placed in Diamond and forever remain in Diamond 1 no matter how many times you lose.

Monthly resets but are you only playing 10 games in the month? You will probably play a lot more. And will be placed in your appropriate rank. You have to earn your rank, its not given to you.

Don’t think you quite understand how the ranking is SUPPOSED to work…straight from HaloWaypoints ranking link itself. The way they describe its method of being calculated isn’t working as it should be.

Uh, what? Are you nuts? If I have to keep playing and getting my -Yoink- handed to me for several months, or the OP has to keep playing with people not as good as him on his team (dragging him down) for an equal amount of time then why would we keep playing at all? Games are a luxury item people play for enjoyment. Some people enjoy being competitive, and others enjoy more casual play. Either way doesn’t matter, the fact is games are games, and whether you care about winning or not it’s no fun to lose over and over again.

Don’t get me wrong. Halo 5 is a good game, but games are meant for enjoyment. And from everything I see on these forums there is a significant amount of people who do not enjoy it. You can’t make everyone happy, but if half the fanbase is going up in flames and the other half is putting fuel on their fire instead of water then there’s a problem. Not that either you are putting fuel on the fire. You do sound like you’re being civil, so please don’t take me the wrong way.

It’s certainly flawed, to say the least. It seems that everyone is being ranked in either Platinum, Diamond or Onyx - no matter their skill level. I am ranked Platinum 1 in Team Arena. When I play against other Platinum players, there’s a real range of skill levels. Some people should obviously be in lower tiers, while others are ranked way too low - they should be in Diamond or above.

I imagine 343 will do a rank reset in a week or so in order to fix the system. I’d rather start over than keep getting matched with random skill levels.

Your playing Arena which is ranked. People will play competitively. Everyone wants to move up in rank so they will try hard. If your playing for fun then your rank shouldnt matter. If your getting annoyed your losing then switch to warzone or get a team for arena. You cant blame your random teammates because you can make your own team to solve that problem. And you cant complain about people playing hard when your in a ranked playlist

My point was that your rank is based off only 10 games. If you think you werent placed in the right rank then keep playing and your true rank will show. The ranks reset monthly, you wont only play 10 games for the whole month.

Arena I play to win. And im sure everyone else does. Practice in customs or warzone and when you get good come back to Arena so you can stop complaining

LOL! “People will play competitively. Your playing Arena which is ranked.” This couldn’t be further from the truth. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I’ve seen someone go in just to play SOCIAL when there is no SOCIAL gametype. I’ve seen people in these Arena gametypes who are NOT playing competitively…they are just social players.

I don’t think you understand how ‘placements’ work. After 10 games, the whole point is to put you where you belong. If you get placed Gold and are able to climb out with ease, wouldn’t that mean you weren’t placed correctly?

because you only one 6 games… how is that not obvious lol. i went 6-4 and got placed in plat.your KDA doesn’t mean as much as the simple fact that you won or loss. IT MATTERS but you can go negative every game but if you get carried to 10 and 0 you will most likely end up plat or higher

Barely anything in multiplayer makes sense now.

I had friends only win 2/10 games and place Diamond…LOL, 60% win ratio means nothing when they have a 20% and place higher.

There shouldn’t be ranking placement matches, you should have to earn your way up the tier board and if you think you’re in a rank that’s to hard you should have the option to manually reset your rank, your K/D and your W/L. You should also need to have a certain balance of K/D and W/L to progress between tiers.

The ranking and spawn system in this game are the same pile of dog -Yoink- from the beta.

Otherwise great game, despite some of its flaws.

The ranks system is amazing actually. Thank you 343, finally. Placement matches are perfect, allows you to quickly get placed approximately based on 10 games, then you move based on wins or losses. Wins or losses is the only metric that should be measured to force teamwork, halo 4 had no teamwork because of individual metric rankings. If you want to go solo, play FFA. Also, resetting ranks every season is also great to allow keeping the system fresh. The system should not be burdened and averaged with multi-year old data. I hated my rank being averaged with old data when I was at a lower skill level… People learn at different rates and some of the old data causes fast learners to be underranked. Resetting the system seasonally and using placement matches allows you to freshen up you rank and the placement matches quickly replaces you. It’s perfect. Remember the system is applied over millions of random people, some new, some old, and current system is perfect balance. One thing I would changes is I think they should not put a lower cap in which you cannot rank below…for example now, if you are in gold 3 the system will not let you derank below gold 1, it should simply let you can up down with no limit based on wins/losses…but even this is ok, since they remove this low cap in the higher onyx ranks and since they reset ranks seasonally. Just hope you can still reference your old season ranks earned for bragging rights! I love the halo 5, this is a great system and game!!
