ThinkTank Studios needs you!

Hey guys, my forge team named ThinkTank Studios needs some more team members. If you like forging and want to join a group that creates awesome game types and game maps, than send me a friend request or a msg. Our 3 current maps are Containment, Quarentine zone, and Metropolis.

Containment works with all game types

Quarentine Zone works with all game types as well, but is meant primarily for infection.

And Metropolis is a map that works only with slayer.

All 3 maps are tons of fun with 4+ players.

Every time you make a non-clickable link, a Grunt runs out of methane.

Downloaded your maps and going to check them out soon.

Just a friendly heads up, but you may wish to re-upload the map file after changing its name. Quarantine is spelt with two 'a’s. I’m not with the grammar/spelling police, but I’m just thinking of professionalism in your map presentation. I like your map names, by the way.

And very funny, x GangsterNo1 x. xD

I’ve looked at all three maps by now and I must admit that I thought long and hard whether or not I should say what I’m about to say. To be honest, dear OP, I still don’t know if you wanted to troll us or if you really are serious. So I went ahead and assumed the latter.

At first I thought Containment was a remake of the H2 map of the same name, but it isn’t. No problem there at all. However, the problems start when looking at the map.

A very small number (7,750 cR left of the budget) of bridges, braces, towers, and other structures placed in what appears to be a completely random and vacuous manner, some floating up in the air for whatever reason, and practically every time two structures touch each other they’re not aligned, clip through each other and often cause flickering, or there are gaps between them.

The vast majority of respawn points are placed out in the open safe for six or seven that are on top of that one large walkway (which is hard to get on to from one side because a Brace structure is placed so high that you have to jump over it to get from the slanted to the horizontal Bridge XL) or on top of the towers. And most of the respawn points for each team are clumped together in one small area each. But that won’t really matter anyway since they are neutral and there are no respawn zones at all.

There also aren’t any safe zones or kill zones. Well, ok. There is ONE huge hard kill zone right above the entrance to the Coliseum so you can’t fly down there. But it’s still very easy to get out of the intended playing area onto the edges of cliffs. But to be honest, that’s a problem with many maps placed in the Quarry.

After that I didn’t even look at the weapon placement anymore. I spotted a sniper rifle and a sword somewhere, but there are hardly any weapons on the map. There is hardly anything at all on the map, to be frank. I’ve never seen the Quarry look so empty except when it was, well, empty.

Metropolis looks a tiny bit better (i.e. has more structures) yet is still very bleak and also has the same problems: structures not aligned but clipping through each other and causing flickering and generally looking warped, hardly any weapons on the map, and so on.

Also, why did you place two Mongoose at blue team’s spawn (where the four intial spawn points for blue team are) but only one Mongoose at red team’s spawn and the other red Mongoose up on interlocking Walkways, Large where you can’t even drive that thing?

And then there is the problem of the far too large, cylinder-shaped hard kill zones that are supposed to prevent you from getting onto all the square towers. Even if you don’t intend to go on top of a tower but just happen to jetpack past it, you die all of a sudden.

But the best thing is that you’ve circumvented the entire problem of not knowing where to place respawn points by simply not placing respawn points. Not a single one. Instead you’ve placed a few weapons at some of the locations where people randomly respawn all over Forge World as they do if there aren’t any respawn points.

Even if people are lucky enough to respawn on Montana or Alaska (i.e. the two areas between which you put your map), they can’t get back in again due to all the overlapping hard kill zones. So basically once you die, you’re out of the game. All you can do is quit or wait and hope that someone else will respawn at the same spot you did and vent your frustration at him.

After that I didn’t really want to look at Quarantine Zone but did so anyway. And at first glance I was actually positively surprised. Lots of neutral and team-based initial spawn points for all eight teams, lots of respawn points, and even loadout cameras for all teams. Unfortunately, I soon discovered a few problems.

While at least some structures actually are aligned and not clipping anymore, they are still placed in a rather incomprehensible manner. It somehow reminded me of D-Day movies except that everything seems to have been switched by 180°. The base or whatever is right at the beach whereas the antitank barriers and mines are inland.

There are also a few things I just don’t understand. For example, why did you place initial spawn points and respawn points so far back in the Canyon? I mean, the map uses the same area Hemorrhage does, yet all the structures are located in the two thirds of the map closer to the beach. The one remaining third of the map is practically empty except for said spawn points.

Maybe they serve as gift to whoever manages to get through the teleporter at the beach first. Seriously, what did you think? A 5x5 flat block at the upper-most reaches of the map close to the beach overlooking literally the whole Canyon, and then place a sniper rifle there?!? Do you want people to get spawn-killed?

I also don’t understand why you made antitank barriers and other obstacles and placed so many mines on the map when there are only a handful of ground vehicles. I mean, the three Falcons on the map don’t care about mines or barriers.

Frankly, I’m feeling a bit cheated and punked. Your so-called “awesome maps” turned out to be really bad. I mean, when someone claims his own stuff to be awesome I automatically expect the opposite. At best I hope it to be barely mediocre. But your maps succeeded in failing to meet even the bare essentials and vital things any map should have, starting with respawn points.

Unfortunately I have not had time to update my file share. I read your post Gangster, and thank you for your input. These are only the first 3 maps put out by my group, and obviously we have some improvement to do. These are only “Beta” models, we still haven’t put up a final product yet.
