Thinking of Getting an Xbox Series S.

I don’t plan on playing in 4K, so I’m not setting my sights on an Xbox Series X any time soon, but I do think I need an upgrade as my Xbox One has experienced more technical problems over the past few months. For those who have the Xbox Series S, what has your experience been like with it?

I don’t have one, but my best friend has one and he loves it. It’s a big improvement over the original Xbox one that he had. If your not concerned with the fact that it has no disk drive, it’s a good deal for the price and most importantly, you can actually find them

I have the series x and my understanding is the primary difference is hard drive space and a disk drive. I noticed the graphics are better, download times faster and load times faster. Also the series S seems to have more available units for sale and a cheaper price tag.

Yeah, I am surprised that they are more available than the Series X considering the price tag on the Series S. It having no disc drive is not a problem for me as most of my games are digital anyway.

i think it has to do with people wanting security that any game they buy they can play on their new expensive console, like…especially if you can resell games? it would suck if you just…cant play them cuz of no disk drive

I have always thought there should be some sort of exchange system that if you bring in a working copy of a game (maybe receipt too, but idk) you can exchange it in for a digital version no cost for consoles without disc drives. There may be some issues that come with such a system thought because I have never thought about it too seriously, but I still think it would be nice.

If you want a solid 1080p performance, Xbox series S is good if you can find it. It can do up to 2k but personally, when playing multiplayer, you prob want to render to 1080p so you can get the most frames. Series S has good hardware to get at least 60 fps on 2k for most games. But hey as long as you get Series S, Series X or PC GET YOUR HANDS ON SOME HARDWARE to play some Infinite with your pals.

P.S

If you get Series S (or really anything else) make sure you get a good monitor or tv (whatever you play with). Most people make the mistake of “building” their PC or buying there consoles thinking they have all they need. You must build from monitor to hardware. This way you can get the visuals, fps, pixel count (2K or 4K) etc. If you don’t all you will experience is better load times.

Storage, storage, storage.
IT has 364gb of usable storage, after installing mcc and flight sim, you only have 100 and something GB left. Got one because i tired of Waiting for a series x.

I haven’t heard any negative things about the Series S. Most people I think buy digital games now anyways. It’ll definitely function better than the previous generation Xbox. In all honesty you can just pick up an external hard drive and plug that into the Series S. No more storage issue.

I was thinking about getting the Series S for my wife. Honestly I think it depends on the individual who’ll be using the console, and wether or not you’ve got more digital or disc games etc.

I have one and it is a good upgrade from the one s (I assume the one x as well) but if you’re fine with buying digital I’d say it’s a good bet.

So how can you continue to play games that you have in disc format on a current Xbox One? Do you gotta buy them as a download again or is there something there to recognize that you own them/have them installed via disc?

You would have to buy them digitally again or keep your xbox one with disc drive.

Thank you for the help. That’s a major disappointment. Looks like I won’t be upgrading until my One completely gives out then.

You could wait for the series X which has a disc drive to be more readily available instead of the series S.

Was actually going to pm you about this but you’ve already assisted me again. Thanks.

or you could buy an official xbox external disk drive after all, the xbox stores the info on the hard drive, the disc is just copy protection

Thats a good point, but that’s just an extra cost I think I’d like to avoid. Then again it’s only a one time expense and then your good forever, but any sort of exchange service would probably have a service charge anyways so it might be the more economic choice anyways.

Got a series S myself recently to upgrade from my day one base Xbox one. Way better frames, rendering, and load times. If you think it’s time for an upgrade and don’t want to full send for a high quality pc or series X it’s definitely worth the buy imo

I heard the Series S can run 160fps and 1440p. 1080 is pretty low isn’t it, nowadays?

It does up to 120fps on 1440p and 1080p. But that’s the key word “up to” when it comes to newer gen games I have a hard time believing it will max at 120 fps at 1440p there are $500 GPU’s from nvidia and amd that cant even get that on new gen games. So I would not be expecting the same results on a console. Series S is not a bad buy and even 1080p gaming is not as bad as many would say. When it comes to console gaming its all about the frames and HDR. That’s why I hinted at ensuring you have a great TV/monitor for gaming because that how you will see the real output difference. Console will provide decent FPS.
