Think I am done with Halo 5 multiplayer

Update: Lots of people asking about my setup etc. I use sensitivity 3-4 and acceleration 2-4, controller practically brand new. Don’t like to fiddle too much, as it takes time to get used to the adjustment. Higher sensitivity makes aiming impossible for me. Deadzones at 3%. Controller is plugged in via cable. Screen is a decent low input lag PC monitor. Console is connected to router via Ethernet cable. 20Mbps download speed. None of these things matter however IF the problem is a ping issue due to being connected to US servers. In a competitive game like this you will get smashed if opponents have a 100ms+ ping advantage on you. I mainly play at peak times for EU (8-11pm). KD is low cos a) I’m consistently being matched vs Platinum players who destroy me and b) I play quite a bit of FFA which isn’t as kind to your KD as team modes generally. I do OK in Warzone where 1v1 skill is less important. But Arena just not fun at all for me at the moment. Will be waiting for some kind of update on the server situation before I try again tbh. Playing Dark Souls 2 / Bloodborne in the mean time. Thnx for the replies

Man, I tried really hard to like this game, but I’m sadly just not finding it very fun to play online…
After 100+ hrs, I give up.

Here are the reasons why:

  1. Aiming - After 100+ hrs play time in multiplayer, I still can’t aim reliably for ****. Dunno what is going wrong, but just feels like I am constantly fighting the controller to stay on target. However, I find myself regularly getting DESTROYED by certain individuals who kill me with headshots EVERY SINGLE TIME they see me. I dunno if they are using mouse/keyboard or are just insanely skilled, but I have practically 0% chance to beat them. Which is fair enough. But why am I CONTINUOUSLY getting matched vs this level of player…? Which takes me to my next point:

  2. Matchmaking - I am a relatively casual Halo player / FPS player, I don’t have a lifetime of experience with this type of game, but I do play a lot of competitive PC games. I am getting absolutely destroyed in arena game after game by at least 1 member of the enemy team who goes like 20+ kills and annihilates me every time we cross paths. Yet despite all these losses, and terrible KDR, I am not dropping in matchmaking rating. I am currently ranked mid-gold. And getting destroyed in vast majority of my games. Most of my matches have at least one platinum opponent. I think I’m at like 40% win rate or something like that. So why isn’t the system booting me down to silver, where I can learn to play the game against similarly skilled opponents???

  3. Servers - I’m not sure where these dedicated servers are hosted. I’m not sure what my ping is. But I am getting destroyed, despite being on a wired ethernet connection with a wired xbox controller. I’m from Europe. I’ve got a really bad feeling vast majority of my games are taking place on servers in America (due to accents on voice chat). I’ll have a ping of 200-300 to US servers, which means I won’t stand a chance in hell in a game like this where reactions and ability to aim mean everything.

  4. Intensity - If I practice the game every single day, for 1-2 hours, I feel like I can “stand a chance” in some matches. If I take a break from the game, even for a few days, then come back to play a couple games, I get absolutely REKT SHREKT and EREKT. This game just feels way too intense to me. It feels like it ONLY accomodates for the 24/7 MLG style of player. Not the semi-casual player. And certainly not the casual player.

And for those reasons, I think I am out…
I will keep an eye on patch notes and see if anything changes, but I’m not holding my breath.
Cya guys.

p.s. I play majority Warzone or Arena (team, team slayer, free for all). I was ranked mid gold in team and plat in FFA.
p.p.s. 90% sure this is what my problem is - https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/6e35355aecdf4fd0acdaee3cc4156fd4/topics/dedicated-servers-eu/a65cf801-460d-49f5-abcc-4b172f736b3a/posts

I sympathize with you because I have the same problem sometimes. The main thing that’s infuriating right now is every other game Im getting betrayed for a weapon. I had a game yesterday i was in a party of 3. And there was a separate party of 5 on my team that presumed to shoot me till my sheilds were down before the fights and betray us (and tbag us of course). Unfortunately fire team leader didnt back out and was paired with them again. Im not done with the game I still love playing warzone and will still play arena from time to time.

waiting for some uber 343 fanboy to call out this supposed blasphemy. As for me, I have to agree. it isn’t as fun as games previously due to the intensity. use to be I could play a few rounds (either alone or with friends) and if I lost I just shrugged it off and tried my luck again. but now it seems I fall into a losing streak and I rage. these things happen when you turn an fps into a competitive arena styled game.

I understand the frustration and I myself have been struggling to find it as fun as the past releases, I was really good at the earlier ones and I struggle to attempt to even make a stand in this one I can’t find a controller setting I like, I hate being out on a losing team when I request a game. In warzone I don’t understand the extra enemies to have to deal with And I understand it for points. but with the undefined radar it makes you easy for a target. I am just not very good at it. Their are many reasons but I guess the playing just hasn’t grabbed me and wanted me to dedicate more time to its perfection the way earlier titles have.

Can’t really say anything about your perceptions. Good luck on your new gaming endeavors.

Fair enough.

I feel your pain.
I like to think I’m good at this game but I often feel like I’m fighting the controller to aim too.
Some matches I’m the best out of everyone then there are others where I’m the worst. So bad that I bet everyone in that match thinks it’s my first time playing.
Everything you said is true and it sucks but my biggest issue is the aiming.

I still love this game so I’m going to keep playing.

Glad you didn’t just say the game sucks or something like that haha

You already know how I feel. I’m done, too. Guess you have to shed the old guys off to make way for the new generation. Sad, really.

Bye

dont really have a response since i share non of your feelings or experiances. Good luck though on whatever game you choose to play

Yeah, I feel you with most excellency. I have been playing this game for around 60 hours and I can’t find myself enjoying it, the matchmaking is absolutely ridiculously bad. Its the primary reason why I don’t play solo anymore.
Everytime I go solo I get matched up against a full premade of Onyxes and sometimes even Champions. I’m Onyx as well so its justified, BUT my team on the other hand is almost always consisting of low diamonds and platinums which is absolutely unacceptable in a game like Halo 5.
One thing also which is completely mind-blowing how it got through during development is the fact that you can actually face full premade teams while playing solo or duo, WHAT IN THE ACTUAL -Yoink- 343!!!
Just gonna stop myself right here, or otherwise I’m gonna go on a really serious angry rant…

I’m already bored of halo 5 due to the lack of content and the req system not giving me anything worth spending points on halo 5 is trash content wise

I thought it was only me. This has really been the deal-breaker for me. I’ve never had this problem in previous Halos, and in Halo: CE-Halo 4 I aim just fine. It’s only Halo 5 where my aim is just all over the place. It feels clunky as Hell.

I agree. The intensity of MP is fun, but overwhelming considering the lack of alternative game modes.

When I hit this wall in the past, it usually meant it was time to take a break from multiplayer and begin taking on the campaign starting with legendary followed by mythic/laso, but with H5, I have no desire to do this.

side note, Is it just me, or does anyone else utterly dislike H5’s campaign.

I don’t enjoy a single aspect of what I have played so far, and that’s upsetting considering we are 3+ years away from Halo 6.

  1. You can now change and adjust your aim settings in the game, just an FYI if you don’t know. If you’re using the standard settings then I agree the aim is awful.
2.i agree the ranking isn’t perfect but none of halos ranking systems have been perfect on accuratly ranking people. Gotta remember some people also play bad to get put into lower ranks and then they decide to play good after.
3.fortunately I’m in the U.S. So the dedicated servers work PERFECTLY for me but I’ve seen many foreign players speak of being connected to our servers rather than your own region. Server works great if you’re in the right area, sorry you get the low end of the deal though.
4.thats just halo nature. It’s not supposed to be easy as other fps which is why I don’t think as many play it like they did in the mid 2000s. I was awful when I started h5 but ever since they added aim adjustments my performance has improved dramatically.

not every game works out for everyone but maybe it can still work out. Do you play with pre made teams? Have you mastered the magnum? Learn map spawns? Ect ect? I’m not bashing you by the way, please don’t think that. I’m just saying maybe there are other areas you can improve on and your h5 experience just might change.

H5 has worst campaign in halo history imo. The false ads were the biggest reason but even if I overlook it there’s many other reasons as well.

I’m sorry, but how do you end up with a 0.8 K/D being a SR50?

I fund the xbone controller doesnt offer enough resistance with its sticks. Coupled with halo 5 relatively low amount of tracking assistance (y’know, that sticky reticule) my aim is a bit wild too.

i turn down sensitivity to slow down the minor adjustments to aim, and turned up acceleration to allow me to turn faster. its helped a lot.

What does his XP rank have to do with his KD?

he played nearly 300 arena games and still can’t improve himself to at least 1.0 K/D?
I mean, it’s fine to have a 0.8 K/D and play 20-40 games because you’re still learning, but 300?
