Think about it..

Player A spawns with a Enhancement that gives him higher jump.
Player B, with a faster reload Enhancement, fights player A.

The outcome depends on the skill and outcome of the involved players, just like currently.

Halo has never been fair due to its steep learning curve, and since you will most likely be playing with people of your own skill level, you will be equally matched.

This, for example, could have multiple outcomes.

Player A fights Player B, near death A jumps over and assassinates B.
Player B fights Player A, since Player A didn’t jump, he will reload faster (leading to a win for B.)
Player B fights A, while Player A is jumping, kills B with magazine
Player A fights B, reloads while Player A jumps and kills him before he can shoot/assassinate.

This way wouldn’t work very well (it’s merely an example), but it doesn’t effect the base balance. I am scared that 343i might not be able to pull this off myself.

STOP CALLING THEM PERKS!

They aren’t perks this isn’t COD!

Sounds terrible.

> STOP CALLING THEM PERKS!

> They aren’t perks this isn’t COD!

Seriously? Take a chill pill, I used the word to make it easier to understand. In no way I’m comparing to CoD.
Don’t derail the thread; you aren’t contributing.

> Sounds terrible.

I don’t like it either, but it’s more likely than what people are believing at the moment.

I doubt they’ll work like that.

> I doubt they’ll work like that.

You said in another thread that they would work to improve the game. This way wouldn’t change balance, as Halo’s learning curve is already this way.

I agree though, this was just in response to people saying that perks “can’t work”.

I really hope they don’t work like that. I mean REALLY hope.

What you just described will be why I quit playing Halo. That’s not balanced in the slightest bit. Halo is a sandbox arena shooter. Not a class based shooter which is what it becomes with options like that. I have zero interest in playing a class based Halo, just like the 90% of previous Halo players that dropped Reach like a sack of bricks a couple months after release. Further traveling down this road will continue to kill Halo. The people in here that like default Reach can say whatever they want but being the majority in Reach does not make them the majority overall.

I have been following Halo and playing Halo religiously since Day 1 of Halo CE and I like to think I now have a decent idea of what keeps the masses interested in this game. Mark my words on 3/30/2012 approx 11:24am EST. Halo 4 will suffer the exact same fate as Halo Reach if they go down this road. calling it now

Do you REALLY even know how “perks” will affect gameplay?, they may not even give advantages over players with none of them, all we can do is wait and see.

No? Did I say we did? Was referring to what he described…not what 343 said.

You were saying you were quitting Halo because you think perks might ruin balance, they won’t trust me, Frankie even said so.

Halo 4 will still be the arena shooter we all love.

One can only hope so but honestly i cannot see how the example the OP posted can be balanced. I completely agree with what o XaVi3r o said.

Some people on this forum are so naive.

thats exactly like i think it will work, and it will, trust me

then i’ll quit playing halo

I actually had a ton of faith when i discovered Frankie will be leading 343i, then the vidoc came out and my faith dropped a lot.

Funny how i had more faith before the first look Vidoc eh

These “perks”/bonuses just add another element to the game whereby you have to think about what situations you will be engaged in. Also, unless Halo had only one gun, everyone in the game was the same skill level and there were no other bias factors, Halo is never a fair game anyway. The bonuses just add another layer to the game and let you have a bit more of a think about how you will play the game, much like how your armour will affect your gameplay as well.

> Halo has never been fair due to its steep learning curve, and since you will most likely be playing with people of your own skill level, you will be equally matched.

What is this, I don’t even…

If everyone starts out with the same base weapon and grenades, then the game is fair, no one has advantage. Just because someone is better then you doesn’t make the game unfair, it just means you’re less skilled.
