Things we want in future Halos.

Hey guys. What are some things you would like to bring back (or incorporated from the books) into the upcoming Halo games? Here are 10 of mine that I just came up with. What are yours?

  1. Skirmishers (different varieties of the same types of enemies. ex Storm covenant models and ‘regular models’ in the same game)
  2. Falcons (more variety of air combat, maybe vultures)
  3. Blue team, or additional spartan co-op, ala Halo 3, where you could control the Arbiter and other elites
  4. Bigger badder flood. Bring back the Gravemind! The flood are spectacular enemies and I’ve missed them since 2007. (A legitimate final encounter with the Gravemind, one with a huge scope and scale, ala Halo 2’s ‘boss’ battles)
  5. Boss battles. These were fun ways to take out the main targets in Halo 2, and the tough enemies made these encounters great
  6. More variety in Spartan Ops missions. Along the lines of MW2’s SpecOps, we should get some new/different ways to do Spartan Ops. Eg, stealth missions, assassinations, driving/flying sections, defend the package, escort civilian evacs, etc. They don’t necessarily need a cohesive story, although I really enjoyed the meta story in h4s Spartan Ops. I think 343 was onto something with these different things, but I personally think a grab bag of spartan ops missions would work better.
  7. Unlockable skulls. Hunting the skulls in H1a, 2 and 3 were fantastic. Reach and 4 had some great skulls, but actually finding them would have been a bit more fun.
  8. “A different way to campaign” playlists. Those videos are some of the best/ most fun ways to play halo, and to actually make certain levels/modifiers around them would be insanely fun.
  9. More easter eggs. Finding the different easter eggs in earlier Halo games were absolutely fantastic. ‘Megg’, the Rex sword, the monkeys. Little things like that hidden throughout the game make me want to go hunting for them.
  10. More lore from the comics/books. Halo 4 did a great first step into including what was happening in the books have consequences in the game (Didact). Maybe have several sources, Nightfall, books, comics, all hint at a great event coming up and really get us hyped for what will happen in the next game. (Although, 343 seems like they may already be incorporating this one!)
What do you think guys? Agree with me? Have some that I didn’t mention? Let’s talk about it.

Exploration.

Definitely agree with this one! I loved Skirmishers in Halo Reach, and would love to see them return.

The more air vehicles, the better. In fact, since Battlefield 3, I’ve want to see a Halo-style all-air vehicle multipalyer mode. Hell, give us some more dog-fight levels in campaign and (if it returns) Spartan Ops.

The biggest “YES!” I can give, right here! The Chief is reunited with Blue Team (which conveniently makes for 4 Spartan), so there’s no reason not to include Blue Team as playable co-op characters.

The question then becomes: Who would be with Locke? I’d love to see Thorne and Ray join him on his hunt for John, but who else? I would put forward Palmer, but I don’t know how well she’d be received. Whow knows?

Better Flood is a big yes. Halo 3’s Flood had some nice improvements (such as carrier forms being explodable), but the overall combat was terribly lacking.

Only if done right. Halo doesn’t have a pretty history with boss battles. I found both the battle with Tartarus and 343GS pretty empty in terms of boss battles. The only redeeming quality for Regret’s battle was, to me, how hilarious it was. Seriously, you punch him in the neck? I can never stop myself from laughing.

I would argue that Spec Ops was way too much “cut-and-paste” from the campaign, but I get what you mean.

Spartan Ops, if it returns, should be 343’s playground for trying new things. Have an idea that doesn’t seem “Halo-y” enough? Put it in Spartan Ops to give it a test-shot.

Another big round of “YES!

The more lore, the better, I say. I would just say to make sure there are ways for the less-knowledgable to understand what’s going on. This could be as simple as an in-game encyclopedia, or a screen prompt to launch to a relevant article on the Halo Channel (if the latter, such prompts should be togglable).

Blue Team and more lore would be my biggest priorities. I’d also really enjoy seeing the Elephant back in matchmaking at some point - there was something strangely fun about messing around with them in Sandtrap in Halo 3, so it’d be pretty cool seeing them return.

How about the return of Firefight! Man how I would love to have a match of firefight with an army of covenant attacking from one side, Forerunner contructs coming from the other side all the while a swarm of flood shows up, man that would be epic. Also I am talking about serious firefight which was actually fun and challenging and not those silly gamemodes for firefight in which you spawn with rocket launchers with infinite ammo. Those gamemodes for firefight completely ruined reach’s firefight matchmaking :frowning:

  1. Greater phenotypic variation in ex-Covenant species would be nice. This subtle variety in character models would make for a more interesting and immersive experience.

  2. Sangheili character models. That’s all.

  3. More detailed environments in campaign with more exploration. Halo 2 was great with this, and I explored every map I could, inside and “out”. Also take out those barriers and put in soft kill barriers if needed, but it was a pain finding a perfect area to explore and being pushed away by a wall and denied that chance.

  4. I hope the Flood returns, because they were a dark and purely evil adversary and were fun to fight against. It would be amazing to see where they fit into 343i’s new Universe, and to see where they take them.

  5. Better looking armor.

  6. I love Spartan Ops, and I hope if they make something like this for Halo 5 they will saturate it with lore, and make it like a novel. It should truly serve to expand the story.

  7. More lore. Saturate everything with lore actually, because the books are just as good as the games for me. The Halo Universe is rich and needs to be explored, so give us that chance please.

  8. Classic characters returning and nods to the original series. It was disappointing to see so many characters missing from Halo 4 but it makes sense, seeing as the story was more secluded than Halo 2 and 3.

Like I said before in another thread, a good idea of a boss fight I have in mind for Halo 5 is fighting John as Locke, where we get to go aganist the man who saved humanity countless times. He’s super agile and good at dodging, has enhanced shields, almost pinpoint accuracy, switching between his AR and SMGs and can fire at you while flipping in the air (think Halo Legends:The Package) and can bust quite powerful CQC.

Note that regardless if you defeat Chief in game or not, John still non-lethaly bests Locke in the post-boss cutscene, so don’t worry about Locke killing Chief.

Also, first-person hand to hand might be worth experimenting on.

yes, boss battles! i was expecting a boss battle at the end of halo 4 with the diadact, but just a cut scene  but i would love to see more boss battles.

Redacted

I would love to see a Xbox One Halo game based on Halo Cole Protical, and you would be lead by Jai 006 and you would play as Mike 120 a little bite like Halo: Reach but a smaller team so you can play throw like Grey Team did in the book. Hobistly in my opinion it would be better than making what people say a future Halo 3A.

  1. Red energy sword
  2. Chips Dubbo
  3. A grunt that will polish my boots
  4. Rtas 'Vadum
  5. The ability to pick up and use a jackal’s shield.

I would love to see Bornestellar Makes Eternal Lasting in the campaign along with a forerunner from each of the castes.

Another ODST game surrounding Buck’s squad.

This may sound stupid, but I think it would be so much fun to have a game that takes place one hundred thousand years before Halo CE (ancient human times). I’d prefer to play as a warrior-servant, but I have no problem with working for the Lord of Admirals (if he is alive during the game’s time).
