Things that'd make Halo 4 feel "newer"

So apart from things like Weapons, Armour Abilities and the Ranking System, not many people seem to talk about other gameplay elements. I’ve seen a few threads but the seem to get overshadowed by threadswith similar topics to the ones I’ve just listed.

Throughout the Halo games I’ve noticed that there’s a few things that haven’t changed in the 10 years since Halo CE which, in my opinion, need to be changed. You can add your own if you want. Here’s a few of mine:

  • For 10 years now, Halo has been a 16 player game. Battlefield has been quenching my thirst for the last couple of years but I’ve always wanted to have a bigger “war” feel in Halo. Maybe they could up the player count to 24? It’d make Big Team a lot better. We could have bigger maps with more vehicles. This would also make vehicles like the Pelican work well in gameplay if they were ever added. The only problem would be the lag issue. Big Team can be pretty laggy as it is (16 players). Dedicated Servers could fix this but I doubt we’d ever get those.

  • In Halo 3 Bungie made it so that you could see the secondary weapon on your player model. I thought this was really cool as it added a lot more detail to the game, especially as in Halo CE and 2 you’d just see the character pull the weapon out from thin air. It looked really cool in machinimas too.

Unlike the viewable secondary weapons, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed since Halo CE and that is the reload animations. If your player was to relead an Assault Rifle it would look normal, until you looked close enough, then you’d see that the Magazine was still in the weapon. It’s not very noticable, unlike the Rocket Launcher. with the Rocket Launcher your player would “pretend” to reload it, but the weapon would still have the same magazine and it looks pretty dumb. What if 343 made it so that the player would actually pull out the magazine of the weapon and replace it instead of pretending too? It’d make the game look a lot better IMO.

  • Another thing is with the vehicles throughout the series. If you ran someone over in a Warthog, the character would go “through” the vehicle instead of colliding or bouncing off of it. If you shot someone out of the vehicle they would do the same. It’d be cool if the bodies interacted with the vehicles. If you shot someone out of the turret of a Warthog for example, they’d fall and bounce out of the back of the Warthog. Another one would be if you killed the driver of the Warthog and instead of falling through it, he would die in his seat and he’d stay there until you tried to get in, where you character would throw the dead body out before getting in.

Those are a few of the many things that should be changed for Halo 4 (or at least Halo 5). There’s probably a few more that I can’t think of right now. They’re not really important when making the game, but they’d make it feel fresh and I’m sure a lot of you would agree with me.

I probably wouldn’t mind if they did the changes you are suggesting, but those kind of aesthetics that don’t change gameplay shouldn’t be 343’s focus and are the kind of ‘glitches’ that give games their character. Halo is beating someone down with an assault rifle or pistol and watching how unrealistically their body is hurled through the air lol

BTB getting increased to a 12 v 12 rather then 8 v 8… I’ll go the middle ground and say 10 v 10. 8 v 8 is chaotic, but 12 v 12 just sounds like its going overboard…

Whoah. I don’t mind 8v8 but12 v 2, No. 10v10 is fine. I want a pelican and phantom in forge world like maps.

Competent friendly AI would be revolutionary for Halo.

Please 343, make it happen.

I really like this thread, you through out some really good points, especially with things like the people dieing in the warthog. These things would definetly make Halo 4 feel fresh and that’s what we want. As for BTB goes, I personally think 12 v 12 could work, if they can’t get it to that without lag, an increase to 10 v 10 would still be great! I really wish tho, that these BTB maps would get more vehicles in them, vehicles are what make BTB so much fun, it’s where you get all those memories with your friends, when your all in a warthog and crazy things happen!

If there’s one thing I can ask for in Halo 4, it’s that we get a great map variety. Halo: Reach offered us a few nice maps, but other than that, all I ever see is Green and Grey all over the place, due to forge world. I don’t like to see this all the time as it makes the game feel dull and boring. The best example would be Halo 3, which had excellent variety in maps.

10 vs 10 would be good too. I said 24 players because you can keep splitting it down into even teams (12 vs 12, 6 vs 6 vs 6 vs 6 etc.) but 10 would be fine.

I agree with the vehicle thing too. I have very fond memories of driving Warthogs around Sandtrap and Valhalla in Halo 3. I haven’t done anything like that in Reach and I really miss it. We need more open maps like Sandtrap in Halo 4 because the ones in Reach just don’t have the BTB feeling.

Another thing I need to add is that there are too many Warthog variants and not enough new vehicles. For example, the Rocket Hog in Reach could have been a Wolverine instead. They need to make the game feel fresh but make it feel like a Halo game at the same time.

It still can be, even with these changes. I’m not saying that they should make Halo “realistic”, I’m saying that they should update date it a bit more than Bungie did. In some ways it still feels like Halo CE (in a bad way).

lol

But yes 343, please.

Sorry for the subjectivity, but I think we should leave the new stuff to 343i, all we can (or should, maybe) ask from them is what NOT to do.

Bots, like in COD Black Ops(Only in customs, not MM) except not as glitchy and more customizable. That would be just awesome.

erasing all memories of playing previous halo games.

graphics that don’t feel outdated in a month

> graphics that don’t feel outdated in a month

Reach accomplished that.

The people going through warthogs and reloading is unfortunately out of bungies laziness. Hopefully 343 can be bothered to add detailed and cool stuff in. Hopefully

I’m pretty sure the reason everybody is talking about the Ranking system etc. is because they don’t want Halo 4 to be a copy of Reach, because Reach was overall terrible.

Yeah it is. I hope they make a ranking system similar to Halo 3’s but I’m also hoping that they keep the credits system from Reach. IMO it should ONLY be used as money, not to rank you up (like the money in CoD Black Ops). I enjoyed buying armour. The way you unlock armour and the way you rank up should be seperate.
