Things I was glad to see

There are currently countless posts on waypoint discussing the issues with the demo, and while I do think some of these issues are justified, I believe it’s also important to discuss the good things we saw. I want Halo Infinite to succeed and I think the potential is there. After rewatching the demo and trailers countless times, it would be remiss of me to not give 343 credit for the many things I was happy to see. There were a lot, so I will post it as a spoiler to keep things condensed

•Pretty much everything about the pilot
•Craig
•The HUD
•Varied terrain instead of flat open spaces
•The warthog vs suicide grunt means vehicles aren’t cardboard
•Music
•Combat looked crispy
•Advanced movement was there, but not overly invasive
•slide is back
•Hit-markers (sorry not sorry)
•Jackals turn off their shield when not in combat
•Armor on brutes breaking
•spike grenades
•equipment has limited uses
•wildlife
•brutes throwing grunts
•that BR though
•most of the new weapons
•Escharum

I’m sure I will notice more things I like over time. What were some of the things you were glad to see?

I think the story looks promising because, so far, all of the characters have strong and distinct personalities and motivations. The Pilot is an ‘everyman’ who is tired of war and wants to go home to see his family, but is thrust into the conflict by Chief. Chief is a stoic and seasoned war machine whose only interest is saving/protecting humanity. The contrast between the Pilot and the Chief lends itself to some great comedic moments, I think it was clever to put these two together.
Escharum, the bad guy, is this really over the top old brute chieftain who has gone weary without challenge. Since the Chief is pretty much the greatest warrior of the galaxy, Escharum sees him as the perfect opportunity to build upon his legend, knowing that this is most likely his final battle. I love how there’s a sense of friendly competition and genuine excitement coming from him, very atypical from anything we’ve seen in Halo so far.

I like the attention to detail in certain areas, like how the enemies react to and talk about what you’re doing.

The combat does feel very crisp and very appealing to me at least. I don’t mind the return of advanced movement, it looks like it was toned down a bit anyway.

I have gripes with some of the visuals and effects, but nothing that can’t be fixed. I wish hit markers can be turned off. You should be able to know if you’re hitting your target by how it reacts. Also, I’d like to see blood splatter on surfaces.

The sound design is also very nice and I like how the sounds echo through the environment. Very immersive. I think that some of the gun sounds are a bit lacking though.

My favorite aspect so far is the open world. As soon as Chief stepped off of that Pelican, I immediately felt like I wanted to go everywhere and explore. It looks very enticing. I’m a little worried that the game doesn’t devolve into that FarCry-like system though.

Escharum looks like he has a lot of potential. I will be excited to see how his story plays out.

I can’t believe I forgot about Craig. Shame on me
