My Xbox is about to arrive and since I am a bit late on the Halo 5, what are some things that I should know about it’s multiplayer? I know that gradually I will understand the in and outs of it, but I’d like to be at least semi-prepared, so I am not completely confused and I am not a burden to my teammates. I have played every Halo up until Reach, so I think I know the basics.
I don’t think knowledge of prior Halos will help you much as a lot of the key mechanics have completely changed. I’ll try to describe the new spartan abilities the best I can. If you sprint and melee you will spartan charge, if you jump and hold melee you can ground pound, and you can clamber by pressing jump when near a ledge. After you have figured out the basic movement in Halo 5 I would find the sensitivity that suits you the best and switch the button layout to bumper jumper. Bumper Jumper allows you to jump and aim at the same time. I would also recommend practicing a while in Warzone before entering arena. You will probably want to know a bit about the req system too. The way it works is that there are 3 packs you can buy Bronze Silver and Gold. Bronze will sometimes give you common unlocks Silver will give you common uncommon and rare unlocks, and gold will give you common uncommon rare ultra rare and legendary unlocks. Bronze packs aren’t worth messing with and I will not be explaining them (they are pretty useless). There are several different kinds of things you will get from silver and gold req packs. The first 2 slots will be permanent unlocks (armors, helmets, armor mods, load out weapons, stances, assassinations, weapon skins, or weapon certifications). Most of those are pretty self explanatory except weapon certifications. Weapon certifications allow you to start unlocking that weapon more in your req packs. You will get 3 of the weapon included with the certification. The 3rd slot will be a emblem. The rest of the slots will be weapon and vehicle cards that you can use in warzone. The weapons that you have certifications for will show up here. The most efficient way to get everything in the game is to start by opening silver packs, and then once you get everything possible from those start opening gold packs. The reasoning behind this is that you will likely get low rarity items from a gold pack that you could have got from a silver pack, but for double the price. If you open silver packs until you have all the common uncommon and rare items in the game you will have nothing remaining, but ultra rare and legendary items to get from the gold packs. Hope this helps.
Honestly you’d be better off buying the MCC than Halo 5. Halo 5’s multiplayer feels VERY fast paced and plays very differently from every other halo game. Countless bugs, glitches and server issues plague halo 5. Halo 5s movement takes A LOT of getting used to. Lots of gamemodes are absent from matchmaking (KOTH, Oddball, Juggernaut, Social slayer, VIP, Headhunters and Snipers). The multiplayer is the closest to a generic FPS halo has ever been. The story is also very confusing for those of you who haven’t read the novels and comics. We now have sprint, ads and the abomination that is spartan charge.
First word of advice:
There’s a lot of haters on Waypoint, especially of Halo 5. Take some, leave some. See for yourself how you enjoy the game. For me, I played every Halo up to date and I love Halo 5.
I suggest beating the campaign first, then trying multiplayer.
Most people on here will tell you all sorts of negatives, but Halo 5 is very much a game you either love or hate, most people actually really enjoy it’s gameplay. It’s a nice break from tradition Halo, while still maintaining all that truly makes Halo what it is.
If you enjoy forge in previous titles, this iteration is FAR superior.
The campaign mainly follows a cast of extended universe characters rather than the traditional choice of Master Chief. While he is still the pivotal character to the plot, the choice to show the events through another fireteam’s eyes gives players a new perspective on how the universe views the Master Chief.
Get ready for ‘Retrieving Data’ after almost every game when trying to access your REQ cards. If you get that, either quit the build or start/end a custom game which should get them to show up again.
