I’ve been playing Halo 5 for about a little more than a year now so I think I have an educated view of the game. (unlike the average game journalist, screw you polygon)
I personally love Halo 5’s multiplayer/custom games and I’m not bugged by req packs because I am a casual player that doesn’t mind not having all the best armors. The new movement system is definitely an improvement and I really enjoy the satisfaction that comes from a well placed ground pound or spartan charge.
However, this game and Halo 4 have ruined the campaign for me and I only finished the campaign to unlock the achievements. Hopefully Halo 6 will return to its roots. My personal favorite campaign was Halo 3 and Reach comes in at a close second. Another thing I hate about Halo 5 is the freaking bullet sponges on warzone firefight.
The elites take way too long to kill and enemies are WAY more accurate than in previous Halo games. (like when I’m in a banshee and a FREAKIN hunter hits me from across the map) My final complaint I have is the excessive amount of armors. The stupid variants have no reason to be in the game as anything other than filler and I hope they cut the amount of armors and helmets IN HALF in the upcoming Halo 6.
So yeah… feel free to give your feedback and share your complaints.
Bullet sponge bosses is a bit of a pet peeve. It’s the laziest form of making a boss difficult. That and making them super accurate.
Disagree about Halo 4’s campaign, though. I thought it was good. A nice change of pace, adding a human factor to Chief that we hadn’t seen before. I liked it.
Grunt mechs are ridiculous. Of the 100 or so firefight games I’ve played, I’ve apparently only gotten the final shot on a grunt mech once.
Firefight games shouldn’t be set up to be a guaranteed win every time, however. Take Arcadefight in Reach for instance… Really just a time killer to build up commendations and earn credits. No real skill or strategy involved.
Halo 5 defiantly had a lot of things to improve. Honestly, my pet peeves were no split screen and no population counter. And yes, grunt mechs are funny and cool af, but I’ve never got a final kill on them.

And yet you have this complaint:

You realize all the filler variants were pretty much directly caused by Halo 5 having a req system, right? Also, I would consider myself a casual player too, but I mind req packs for other reasons besides cosmetics. Namely, the effect that the req system had on Halo 5’s development. If Warzone wasn’t such a big focus, then Halo 5 most likely would have had a much better BTB, among other things. But it’s clear that the req system gave them a monetary incentive to favor Warzone over other game modes. I don’t think any player, casual or not, should support such a system.

My biggest complaint was lack of split-screen, but at least 343 seems to have heard that one. Also, the req system thing I mentioned earlier. And Halo 5’s only PvE mode, Warzone Firefight, could definitely stand to be improved in some ways. But other than those glaring issues, I would say Halo 5 is a solid game.
Completely agree on almost everything you said. Halo 4 campaign wasn’t that bad and Master Chief’s story really should’ve ended there but yeah armor variants are just plain stupid. If 343 adds the same amount in Halo 6 I’m just not buying the game
Halo 5 is a good game all around in many different areas but at the same time it has bad things as well. I feel like the choice not to have Spilt-Screen in the game was a good choice. Because it’s kind of out dated and most people don’t even use it. Having it in single player and customs I’m cool with but not in MM because it makes it unfair for someone to have 4 screens to look at plus with a Motion Sensors on all of them and you enemy always knows where you’re at. Which isn’t fair in the slightest bit if you’re going agents a group of players online.
Now for the single player I didn’t really care to much, but I didn’t like how there’s this time gap in between Halo 4 and Halo 5. Like I shouldn’t have to read a book to know what happen in the time gap.
But for Multiplayer the game is way too competitive in everything which doesn’t always make it fun. Halo MCC and Halo 5 are base way too much for the competitive crowd and not enough for the casual side of things. Now don’t get the wrong idea I like what Warzone stands for a beacon for the casual side to evolve in a different way from competitive side of things. But sadly, that wasn’t the case at all. Having those req stations just ruins the gameplay altogether. Like what I was hoping for is way to have my own loadout that I must earn and unlock by completing certain objective with in the game. But nooo what we got was a mode that’s called Warzone that doesn’t even fill like a war and with no customization in how you play the game. Like I don’t want to play Human Warfare in Halo I can play that on COD or BF. In Halo we have Humans, Covenant, Forerunners and Flood. Which currently there’s no reason why this can’t come into the light for the casual side of Halo Multiplayer within Warzone for the future of this mode.
So, for Forge part of Halo 5 is amazing but needs to have a Tutorial that teaches you everything you need to know about Forge. But not like that pathetic version that’s on Halo 5 PC that tells you basic moments and then gives you a link to YouTube from the community. No what it should be like is similar when you play the Tutorial in Halo Wars 2 and Project Spark. That way we the community aren’t guessing anymore and so everything is covered
Now for custom games somewhat cool but not enough things unlocked for the person making the game. But I’m so happy that the Custom Game Bowser was added to the game. But with all the crashes and freezing it makes so you almost don’t want to play anymore. I just the Custom Game Browser is here to stay for future games, but it needs a way to boot and ban players and a pre-map and gametype selection that the party leader can set before players join and to change in the game. That way games are starting up right away. Having it so it keeps track of who wins a game and how many times as well.
But other than that, I like Halo 5 to this day and still play it all the time.
I don’t mind the bullet sponge bosses but I have to say that I don’t like all of the sculls being on in mythic firefight. It should just be essentially the legendary firefight with the mythic scull always being on, as that was always the purpose of that scull. I know you weren’t saying this but the hunters really bother me as well. They are just too fast and their speed should be comparable to knights. Plus they shoot rapid fire fuel rods at you that have proxy detonation and that makes them overly deadly. Maybe only the enhanced hunters should have that. Berserk is a good thing though. The campaign was pretty good IMO, I enjoyed fighting forerunners and covenant while trying to find Cortana. It was pretty emotional till the end if you grew up playing the first few Halo games. I liked that the Spartans were somewhat more diverse than they had been in previous games (where if I referred to someone as “the girl Spartan/ODST” you’d know exactly who I was talking about). It’s more reflective of the story unfolding in the Halo universe. As for the helmets and armor types, I guess it’s excessive. There are about 4 helmets that I don’t think are ugly nor look like a fishbowl, while most of the armor types look boxy and the same to me. I’ve mostly just ignored this new feature.

You have 4 Firefight losses on the first page of your Warzone game history so I’m not sure why you think it’s a guaranteed win. Yeah, it can be a little easy if you have a good team, but the game wouldn’t be good if they made it almost impossible to win something.

I’m saying it isn’t a guaranteed win as compared to unlimited firefight in reach. Some semblance of teamwork is required in warzone. If people aren’t putting shots into those round 5 bosses or not bringing in vehicles, you’re highly unlikely to win the match.
I hate the REQ packs, sprint, thrust, clamber, ADS, the single player campaign, and the removal of playlists like Mythic Shotty Snipers and the throwback playlists.

While I love h4s story, the level desig, enemies, and sand box leave much to be desired
For the most part, I agree with everything you said, although I disagree with your view of Halo 4’s campaign. In my opinion, it is one of the best Halo campaigns. The ending always chokes me up and no other Halo game has managed to do that.

I liked the human factor I just didn’t feel the same yea halo feeling when playing it. It might be because I felt alone the entire time.
i think this trilogy as a whole has a good story behind it but it could be executed in game better with better human dialogue (halo5 Osiris felt bland not much character developement) and blue team If you haven’t read up the books and lore made no sense to people.
Lets see how halo 6 turns out
I hate how you can’t hijack any enemy vehicles in warzone fire fight even if the enemy stole your vehicle , I hate that you can’t kill enemies of drop ships like in previous halo games ,I dislike how boss enemies are reskined enemies with more health instead of being more intelligent ,I dislike the amount of reskined variants there are like what is the point of the woodland scorpion or urban scorpion (but the Hannibal and oni scorpions are welcome additions) I dislike the story, why didn’t the falcon come back in the memories of reach update , why are most the characters bad in the campaign, why isn’t there a normal fire fight mode we have been requesting this for a long time, there was only one truly new vehicle and that was the phaton (I probably miss spelled that ), I hated how in the beginning there was barely any content seriously how did 343 messed that up , the fact that the enemies in phantoms are too strong enemies should be challenging and fair not being able to kill you in like 1 second . I don’t hate halo 5 in the end it was a good game but there are so much things that went wrong
No split-screen was the ink blotch on the white paper for me. I have friends over often and we enjoy playing older halo games split-screen because neither of them have xbox. But that was ruined because 343 didn’t want their precious graphics compromised. Now we can’t have sniper battles or any of those fun things in halo and have to settle for the older halo games for that. But (and please don’t burn me at the stake for this) the older games felt outdated for me. I was playing Halo Reach the other day, and although it is a good game, there was literally only 17 people playing matchmaking. (I know I went off on an off-topic tangent, but I had to let off some steam).

There are still lots of people playing Reach. The population counter is wrong / non-existent.

Yeah I consider that an oversight on my part. Good catch.

Really dude? Have you even played Reach? Halo 4 just felt cheesy to me in terms of campaign. I just wasn’t invested in the characters like I was in 3 or Reach. (best 2 Halo campaigns)
Yeah, wasn’t a fan of the campaign. Halo 4’s isn’t bad by any means, but it certainly failed in comparison to the other Halos. Halo 5’s is just… ech…
