Things from Reach which should be in Halo4

Now for those of you familiar with my past posts (my last one not being for a while now) you will know that I am not a ‘big’ fan of Reach and am more of a Halo2 kind of guy (as Halo3 wasn’t as good at the godly Halo2); hence it might seem odd that I have created this thread. But since nobody has yet highlighted Reach’s good points (as few as they are) I might as well.

So where to begin… how about armour abilities?

Well not all of the armour abilities ‘failed’, especially in the campaign and customs where they excelled. Evade was one of the AA which I enjoyed -even in the MM- as it felt natural to use, believable and awesome to use. I could go into further detail but let’s move on.

Jetpack. At first you might think “what!? But Red Head you handsome, brilliant gamer [open to opinion] you have always argued against the use of jetpack as it destroys map flow and design!” Well although this is true in the campaign and Spartan Ops the jetpack has lots of potential. Imagine whole missions (both campaign and Spartan Ops) designed solely for jetpack combat? Jetpack still has plenty of potential to explore however keep it out of MM.

Next up is camo. It is here for the same reasons as above. As for MM I personally don’t think it can be balanced but meh, prove me wrong 343! If you can make it work then do but if not (which I’m sure is the case) then dump it.

Graphics

I didn’t really have that much of a problem with Reach’s graphics however I did have a problem with how they were used. They were so many grey, boring and well…CoD looking maps -I apologise for putting it in that way but it’s the easiest way to explain it. The maps looked too industrious and plain unlike the previous games maps. This is partly to do with the forge pallet which is all a horrible grey. Lets have some colourful maps back!

Space Combat

Flying a spaceship? Sure, why not. Mix things up a bit, add more vehicles/ships and different situations (like perhaps fighting in an asteroid field? Stereotype I know but if it’s fun I don’t care).

This also goes for low gravity situations -more variety! Debris floating in your way, dead bodies floating all over the place ect. BUT make sure that players are stuck to the floor and not floating in zero-g -magnetic boots perhaps?

Forge

How could anybody forget the stunning advancements with forge? In Halo4 keep Reach’s base programming -phased pieces, co-ordinates and large maps; just add more pieces, options and gimmicks. Weather control, piece textures and the new lighting effects would be a nice start.

Now for the nit picking (-small things)

-The Reach sniper was a massive improvement on Halo3. I know some people will disagree with me so feel free to scream your abuse below.

-The Reach sword target marker. The one in Halo4 is a circle which I don’t like. Keep it as a third of a circle that was fine.

-There will be some things which I have missed out but I will come back and add them if I feel it is necessary.

-Customisation. It’s in this section as it can only be improved in one way…MORE! And better pieces as Gungir looked like -Yoink-.

-Assassinations. BIGGER, COOLER, MORE!!!
also is it too much to ask to make the enemy you are killing invincible to outside fire during assassinations? Yoinks have become all to common in Reach -where is the common courtesy? Thanks to Mythic Pilot for reminding me about this fact.

Please add what you like about Reach and I’ll add it to the list if I agree (oh and heads-up: sword block, armour lock and plasma repeater will not be accepted)

Cheers,

Better to be red than dead

Space combat needs to return. Whether it be at the near end of the game, or in Halo 5. Hopefully the sabre can somehow miraculously return, or we can be allowed to pilot a longsword.

> Space combat needs to return. Whether it be at the near end of the game, or in Halo 5.

It would be nice. Space combat just added a new element to the game while fitting in with the game’s canon.

> Space combat needs to return. Whether it be at the near end of the game, or in Halo 5.

It will most likely return in, both, Campaign and Spartan Ops. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d like to see the actual Spartan model be more like Reach’s. Halo 4’s look very ‘cartoony’ and colourful rather than a more realistic approach. They should make it look like the Spartan has been in war like in Reach.

The same armoury set-up would be nice in Halo 4 as it was in Reach also.

I don’t see the need for space combat specifically. It’s essentially just Banshee battles on a black background.

It was fun too.

Everything! And more!

No Halo: Reach sniper was way to easy to use… but it seems like they’ve already fixed that in H4

(Also H5 needs space combat with boarding of enemy ships the Starwars battelfront 2 way!)

Humiliation Assassination … my foot on Sgt. Johnson’s neck … if Halo 4 doesn’t have this I’ll not forgive 343 and will be the only reason to play Reach again

and Grenade Launcher

hehe, I knew somebody would bring this up. I just don’t like the Halo3 sniper rifle it felt too fluidy to use. Perhaps it does take away from the skill of using the snipe but perhaps that’s not a bad thing. As far as I can tell most people can’t come anywhere close to hitting me -I’m not complaining with that!

I was thinking of SWB 2 but I’ve never tried it in MM. I’ll have to take your word for it.

Could you elaborate on how the Halo 4 sniper is harder to use? I haven’t really noticed anything.

A campaign, a multiplayer component, a forge system, theater, playable spartans, halo weapons, custom games, a physics engine, and a graphics engine need to all return. if not, it won’t be a game at all, let-alone a halo game.

> I don’t see the need for space combat specifically. It’s essentially just Banshee battles on a black background.

True but like most of Reach’s good features it has potential. I won’t be gutted if Halo4 has no space sections but I will be happy if there is. Anything to ‘spice things up again’

> I don’t see the need for space combat specifically. It’s essentially just Banshee battles on a black background.

So why don’t we just fight on banshees in a big white room? When you answer that question, you’ll understand why people like space battles.

This was my favorite assassination! Sadly, the sticky detonator is not a replacement for the grenade launcher.

RIP grenade launcher, you will be missed… :’(

Because a white background does not give the proper “spacey” feel. Duh.

I want ‘shield-pop’ to return. No bleed-through.

ACTIVE ROSTER that is all.

> ACTIVE ROSTER that is all.

This. The new menu interface doesn’t look all that great at the moment. I honestly don’t care about anything else from Reach.

Most of the stuff on my list isn’t core Reach mechanics as Reach’s core was rotten.
