I really suck at basketball, but it’s not my fault. The basketball stand thingy is too tall and the hoop is too small. If they made the stand shorter and the hoop like 3 times as big, then so many more people could score points and be good at the game! More people could go pro, and overall the game would just be more fun. Also, by making the game more fun and not so hard to score points, they would sell more basketballs and basketball equipment. So I think they really need to do that.
….
This is essentially what has been happening with Halo. In Halo CE and Halo 2 people whom were able to get head shots, keep a steady aimer for 3 or 4 shot kills, people whom were able to tactically evade death with precision jumps, strafes or otherwise movements, were the ones who dominated the game. Just as in basketball, people with raw talent like Michael Jordan and Koby Bryant dominate the game, and people like myself do not.
So Bungie (and now 343i), went and made the metaphorical hoop bigger. In Halo 3 and Reach you didn’t need to have precision aiming or tactical evading abilities. Getting out BR’d? No problem! Pull out your shotgun, hammer, sword, mauler, and just run straight at the person. And if they are STILL overpowering you with that silly BR, no worries! Throw a regen or bubble shield and you are safe! Or in Reach, just sprint away!
Hey, but at least the game is fun for everyone and we all can be winners now!
And it’s safe to say I see what you’re getting at, but hey, that’s just the way Marketing goes, make everything as accessible as possible to as many people as possible…
…And while that is an Enraging Thought, at least it doesn’t appear that all of the fun has been drained from everything with that method…it just has a tendency to turn things tedious sooner rather than later…
…Whatever, Neutrality is the way to go these days, so I’ll end by saying everyone’s right, but you’re all equally wrong…

And they said this about it
> First off, I had a lot of fun playing. It felt like Halo. Movement was really crisp and the aiming was solid.

> Before I talk about Halo 4, it’s very important for everyone to understand this. The developer bashingthat happens in our community has to stop. Every time Halo 4 details are released, the competitive community is there to rip apart every detail and publicly blast 343 about their decisions. If this continues, I would not be surprised if the majority of developers walk away from the competitive audience and consider them a community that simply cannot be satisfied. When you see new information on an upcoming game, think about the positives it could bring to the game first. If you’re certain it’s something that will simply not work, come together with positive feedback on how to improve it or tweak it. Blasting employee Twitter accounts and bashing the game hurts everyone.

I disagree. You don’t need to play it to THINK those things but to know, yeah, you have to play it or at least see more than 60 seconds of gameplay footage.

Indeed, it’s a known fact that games these days are easier than they were years ago. It’s due to the large market where games need to rival for the attention of the casual gamer with no drive to become better at the game or invest time into it. This leads to developers building dumbed down games in fears of scaring off players. And the Skinner box progression system is there to make the whole game so that the player won’t leave the game until the sequel comes out. That is the formula of modern games in its purest form.
It most certainly isn’t good for the player and is a cowardly way of making games, missing their initial purpose of getting fun out of challenging your abilities.
> Would have been better if you hadn’t explained the metaphor.
I thought about that, but a lot of people (especially younger people), wouldn’t have got it. Not just that, without explaining the metaphor then there would have been no mention of Halo. And so this thread would most likely have been removed/locked.
