And why not?

It makes sense to have a clan system since the game is so focused on team work. Pus being in a clan is really fun.

Because he isn’t old enough to have understand what Halo 2 had.

Guess you’d rather be on the wrong end of a one-sided clan curbstomp than be able to match up with randoms and give clans their own matches.

Answer to why…

Explicitly supporting Clans with built-in gamemodes only serves to create redundant playlists and redundant playlists only serve to harm the matchmaking system by fragmenting the player base unnecessarily. On the other hand, had this thread been advocating for 343i to spend the time and resources on implementing a mostly outside-the-game clan network system of sorts through their website with minor-ish customization tie-ins to a player’s in-game character then (whatever) I wouldn’t have had a problem with that, but that’s not what was being advocated for here. Anything that’s involved with affecting the in-game playlists and matchmaking system I do have a problem with because I want to see an ideal and healthy matchmaking system in Halo 5: Guardians. Negatively affecting the matchmaking system by creating redundant playlists is likely a huge reason why Clan specific matchmaking hasn’t existed outside Halo 2 and why the developers haven’t returned duplicate gametypes under an official “Social” verse “Ranked” playlist offering. It’s good to see that the developers have thankfully learned their lessons from the past and have not returned Clan playlists, nor duplicated Social verse Ranked playlists either.

If 343i wanted to provide anything like Clan support back into Halo the way they should go about it is by introducing it through Waypoint where you register a Clan name and recruit members. The basic concept behind this addition would be to track the combined statistics of the members within the Clan and to rank the Clan based on these combined statistics within a Global Leaderboard of sorts (all found within the website and perhaps with further refinement then what I just spoke of). Also, it should present the Clan’s leader or leaders the ability to customize a personal Clan emblem and banner with a much more intricate and detailed creator tool through the website. The in-game tie-in should be restricted to providing the Clan members the option to choose the custom made Clan emblem and banner if they so choose to represent the Clan while playing online. There could be further functionality within the website for the clan leader(s) to organize, plan, and strategize tactics, but my main point is that there shouldn’t be any harmful effect on the matchmaking system by having clan related playlists which serve only to fragment the game’s player base. In conclusion, providing for group representation through a in-game customization tie-in to your Clan is fine with me; Clan-based playlists are not.

Too bad you’re not able to understand that you should have used the term “understood” in your comment. All you had to do was check my profile’s service record to see that I’ve played quite a bit of Halo 2. I’ve been playing Halo fairly steadily since shortly after Combat Evolved got released. I think I have a pretty good understanding and perspective on Halo as well as with the overall gaming culture too.

If you played halo 2 xbox live with your friends when it came out, there is no way you didnt like clan matches. Gave you another comptetive ranked playlist to enjoy. I just have alot of good memories doing clan matches with all my friends, was looking for people that felt the same.

I agree bring them back. halo is about competition.

I hope they bring them back.

This guy is nuts. In Halo 2 there was a Competitive Website (Similar to Gamebattles, but i forgot the name) it was called like CLE or CAL i think it was CAL Cyber Athletic League something like that. My team and i would play CAL games online, with a team, website, and whatever else u could throw in there, but we still LOVED playing Clan Playlists to smash noob teams or get paired against pro teams… We were ranked in the high 30’s and i remember playing against Final Boss that year. (40’s and above were all boosters and hackers)

Bring the playlists back, its not going to harm anything just another thing for friends to group up and get bragging rights.

You make alot of sense. The important aspect is that it’s not only a Waypoint-feature, but also have in-game ties so that the clan actually matters in-game. One thought though, why would they need to implement additional playlists for clans? Why not just let players create and join clans that can play in the regular playlists. If 343 actually have the same criteria as in H2 and H3 matchmaking where players searching alone or in 2’s wouldn´t match pre-made teams, then this could work. Players team up unofficially anyway before games and that works for the regular playlists. With a clan function it would just be more official and fun with name, stats, emblem etc.

  • Searching alone or 2 -> only match players searching alone or in 2.
  • Searching 3 or 4 -> only match players searching in 3 or 4.
  • Searching with your team -> only match other teams, or pre-made 4’s.This would work perfectly. And the criteria above is absolutely needed whether they implement clans or not.

Consider my points and get back to me. What i’m suggesting is to not “bring back clans” but rather invent a new and better integrated system that doesn’t water out the existing playlists so that too few players exist in those playlists at any given time.

ABSOLUTELY, clans in halo 2 were so much fun I LOVED how you could smack talk before the game loaded and it was laid right out on the screen Team A vs Team B, One time me and my friends got matched with that frag dolls clan and we destroyed them, our level would always get to around 30 and then we would get standby’d…

ugh even saying that word makes me angry

clan matches (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
