now they can move and shoot their beam. does this make them a viable spam unit now like they were in HW1?
No, because they suck against other infantry, and are defenseless against air.

does this mean we can now upgrade them without in a way nerfing them? and I mean getting their beam upgrade

Yeah upgraded Hunters are definitely useful now. It’s insane how much more effective they are just by letting them move and shoot.

Oh, I’m sorry, were you expecting a unit that’s strong vs all and weak vs none?

Not this again.
Just done some testing and have concluded that locusts and hunters have equal or near identical movement speed (go test it yourself in a skirmish if you don’t believe me) so I see no reason for you to continue being salty in this thread. Particularly when you’ve had multiple suggestions in the other thread as to how to deal with locusts.
Yes, hunters have some trouble dealing with locusts solo (you’re putting the slowest AV infantry against the longest range moveable vehicle unit, of course, they are going to try and use their range to advantage), but you are not playing a game of hunters vs locusts, you have a variety of units and abilities available and some may be better for the job. But even so, the fact that they have equal movespeeds means there is no reason you should be kited unless you allow yourself to be kited.

Um, no? You misread my intentions. I was just saying they aren’t valid spam units, because of those listed reasons. Not saying they’re useless.
Colony - Hunters, Banshees, Shroud + Leader Power = Love
I haven’t played decimus in awhile but isn’t vortex lightening a pretty early tier leader power. Just stun the locusts and walk up to them with your hunters if you want to spam them.

This soooo much.

You are proving my point…if both units move at lets say 20 speed but one unit can shoot at 50 feet an the other at 40 then you will get kited air not rocket science. If you teleport on him he tele away shrouds doesn’t matter if I can’t get close to hit them. There is no closing distance. If one guy had a locust focus army mix and another had a hunter party mix locusts ball will win unless the user makes mistake.
the beam range is a bit to op
but they made an excellent change
