Seriously, I have no idea why people are so upset about a “bait and switch”.
Limited edition owners and season pass owners should not have to accept the fact that everyone else gets their exclusive content for free. They didn’t pay for it.
It was good that free riders will lose access on the 18th.
Justice was served with this decision.
Carry on.
Too bad these new maps are terrible; I still feel ripped off as a LE owner.

That would be an entirely different note.
That being said though, Harvest is quite excellent (amazing for CTF). Plays like H3 MLG. Wreckage and Shatter though are terribad.
Agree about Harvest. Awesome map and I’m definitely enjoying it. Long sight lines on the sides and great CQC in the middle. Well balanced.
Wreckage, hit or miss with me. One game I love it, the next I hate it.
Shatter is… alright. Just glad to have another big team map in the mix. I hate that Ragnarok and Exile are picked 90% of the time.
While I agree that it is definitely the right thing to do (revoke the free map downloaders’ maps), you really support how the went about it?
Yeah except now 20k peopel had a 14 day trial to see that these maps are a waste of money, and then not waste said money.
LE and map pack owners (map pack owner here) are now obligated because the yalready spent that money.
i was realieved when I saw it was free because I said wow these maps are not what I was hoping for. Then 14day trial, man if I hadn’t bought this pass I would be stoked. Try it out, see it’s a waste. Try out next 2, maybe buy them…
But there goes 2k MP for no reason

To each their own. I’m a Limited Edition owner and I don’t feel ripped off at all, especially since I love the maps!
Wading through all the BS on these forums, I gotta agree with you OP. Basically, they accidentally made it free, saw their mistake, and are gonna make it available for use by paying customers only, thus correcting the mistake.
The big thing, though, is how they went about communicating this with the community.
I would have rather had everyone get this map pack for free. (Still can’t believe how poor CMP is)
Then 343 could schedule a new map pack, based around classic Halo maps as an addition to the map pack. This would not be as much work for 343, since most of the design elements would be done.
Everybody wins.

The entire sequence of events? No. It was messy.
The end result however, which is what I meant, was the correct thing to do. Everyone is happy in the end.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the OP’s statements. This was not the correct way to handle it, unless you like being flat-out lied to by the Microsoft PR team. This whole “7 day trial” is nothing but a cover-up for their mistake and a justification for them to remove the content that Microsoft mistakenly gave a way to a small percentage of users. This is just as bad as the lie they pushed out about the specialization codes being the customer’s fault due to “invalid e-mail”.
Had Microsoft come forward with the truth admitting their mistake, they would have gained a lot more respect in my eyes as well as the majority of the community. I purchased the War Games Pass and it would not have bothered me in the least had Microsoft allowed those people who took advantage of the error to keep the DLC, as it would not affect me or the community in any way whatsoever. It does not devalue my purchase nor that of any of the LE owners who seem to be the most uptight about the whole situation. It is no different than buying a game of the Live marketplace, only to find out that the following week that has a promotion that gives it away for free. My reaction is more along the lines of “Oh Man”, then move on.
So the glitch does not upset me, people who got it free does not upset me, and it doesn’t really upset me much that they are revoking the right to play for those who did get in on it (but I think it is wrong and illegal, unethical at the very least). What does upset me is this elaborate lie the PR team has come up about some mystery trial that no one heard of until yesterday evening to cover their rears and justify removing material that they gave away by their own error. Take it out on the individuals who caused the fiasco on your end, not your loyal customer as that loyalty can be rather fickle when they get screwed over and lied to.
Harvest is the only map I like. Hopefully future map packs are a bit better.
