There's no way desync is as bad an issue as some of you're making it out to be

haha, right. I figured it was definitely appropriate. I normally don’t experience it THAT bad. When it happened, I remember thinking no way that guy should be alive… 5 secs later, vindication!

Also, I’m on PC not that it should matter. I’m also playing on a 1Gbps Fiber symmetrical connection.

I can’t believe so many people took the obvious troll bait on this thread

Persistent desync isn’t something I’ve been experiencing, but I can attest to frequent and disruptive instances of packet loss between my Series X client and the Azure servers in the East Coast. Happens in most games, bar the occasional one or two, and causes issues like rubberbanding.

I will say that I haven’t had the “shot around a corner” issue anywhere near as frequently as I did in Season 1, but unstable connections/netcode(?) is still very much a problem.

Oh boy, I wish I would’ve seen this yesterday. I had like 5+ clips of me getting screwed over. I deleted them just yesterday, because they make me angry every time I see them. From shots not registering when clearly on the enemy, to being 1 shot by a sniper after being out of his sight for a solid second. I just got out of a game where a guy was coming at me with a sword about 7 feet away and my repulsor didn’t even phase him, luckily he missed his swing and I got him though.

Having played this game on both Previous Generation and Current Generation consoles, I can confirm that playing on an Xbox One does not help the issue.
On the Series X the issue sometimes comes up on occasion. And I have noticed something.

When I experience desync on my Series X, it is only applied to specific players in the match. I.E., if I experience desync issues when attempting to shoot at or punch an enemy Spartan and my hits don’t register correctly with that player, it will be like that for every encounter for the rest of the match when I am attempting to target said player. However if my hits are registering correctly on his teammates, then I have pretty much no issue when entering fights with them as all my shots register and the lag-ghost teleporting is non-existent.

However when I played on my Xbox One, the result is the opposite.
I have a horrible time when trying to engage in fights as it feels as if I am playing with five-hundred ping, despite me seeing an on-average ping of 80-120 ping range most of the time on Xbox One.

Given the fact that the majority of players do not have an Xbox Series X yet (thanks to scalpers that need to be fined and/or incarcerated as the con-artists they are), it stands to reason that most console players are on the Xbox One platforms.

Thus the problems we face with desync is likely due to the fact that many of the random players we encounter online are playing a Next-Gen game with Previous-Gen outdated hardware. Had scalpers not been such a burden this time around (thanks to Covid making everyone’s wallets a bit more tighter), it is likely that Halo Infinite would be a Series S/X and PC title. I surmise that the only reason the Xbox One lineup of consoles were allowed to play Halo Infinite was likely due to the scalpers forcing 343’s hand into porting the game to the out-of-date consoles. Thus we essentially have Potatoes running a game that requires more modern specs.

“We designed this game to work optimally for the hardware minimum requirements of the Xbox Series S. Microsoft, when can we see a projected release window?”

Microsoft -
“. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . so here’s the dealio . . . . . . . . we are making amazing sales of our new consoles . . . . . . . . . . . .”

343 -
“. . . . . . . . . . . . . . why are you making this sound like bad news?”

Microsoft -
“. . . . . . scalpers are 80% of our console sales . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . which means 80% of our Series X and Series S consoles are in the hand of . . . . . . . . like . . . . . thirty balding guys with weight issues and no social tact but think of themselves as salesmen . . . . . . . . . . .”

343 -
“. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . so we are going to have to delay again?”

Microsoft -
“And that is where the bad news comes in. NO, we cannot delay any more than we already have. Otherwise we will owe a lot more money than you already do to the investors that signed contracts to be your budget benefactors . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . so we are going to have to ask you to port the game to the last generation of consoles so that we still get a lot of players that will play the game.”

343 -
“. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . WHAT?!! Are you crazy!!? The game will be buggy as all hell because you would have outdated hardware trying to run state-of-the-art software!! It would be like trying to run Crysis with max settings on a Macbook!!! IT . . . IS . . . GOING . . . TO . . . CHUG !!

Microsoft -
“Hey I don’t like it either. BUT we gotta pay off our investors. We are already delayed behind schedule and that means we have to pay them ~25% more interest on what we already promised them. We cannot delay again and if you want to keep your jobs, you will have to take this option. It is the only way to ensure that you don’t file for bankruptcy and that we don’t have to close your doors permanently.”

343 -
“But our reputation would be tarnished!”

Microsoft -
“Oh come off it, your reputation was tarnished when you released Halo 4 and Halo 5. Those two were designed to be failures. Halo Infinite will be a good thing in time. After about a year or two of being released, we can announce that servers for the Xbox One version of the game will be shutting down. By then, the players will have moved on to the Series S/X and the issues would no longer exist. In the long run that will improve your reputation as you will update the game and satiate the fans. It isn’t the ideal option, but it is the best option for the time being.”

Basically a mock conversation of how it probably went in a board room somewhere in Washington or California.

You forgot the Halo reach moochers part

And extended warranty on the warthog and Gucci visor set

Between desync and 200 ping games, infinite just feels tortureous to play.

Sodium where do you play from

Singapore, South East Asia region. Get thrown into NA West for every Breaker match. Feels good man.

I would assume you getting put in NA servers is THE problem

Microsoft -
“Oh yeah, one more thing . . . . . . . . in order to pay off our investors, we will also need you to put most of the cosmetics into a shop system. I would recommend copying Fortnite’s whole spiel of a free-to-play multiplayer and a cut-throat shop system.”

343 -
“. . . . . . . . . but . . . but we promised that most cosmetics will be free without money.”

Microsoft -
“Again, it is either this or your job kiddo . . . . . . . I don’t like it either. But sometimes you gotta break a promise just to keep moving forward. You of all people should know about that.”

Worst thing is Infinite doesn’t even offer nearly enough content to adopt Fortnite’s monetization

Theres the rest of it.

I beg to differ. They just withheld a lot of content to be later put into Season 2.
Oddly enough, I went through the cosmetics earlier today and found that CQC and JFO were showing up now on the Mark V Bravo cosmetics options, but showing up as being released in Season 1 and are now vaulted.

Even though these weren’t ever shown in Season 1, thus they were likely MEANT to be in Season 1 but were instead delayed to Season 2 to boost content for Lone Wolves. We have already seen the daily item from Tuesday re-released today (Friday) and the season just started.

“Desync is a myth”

I’ll just post my favorite clip.

https://www.reddit.com/r/haloinfinite/comments/rahap6/guess_he_just_has_a_better_gaming_chair/

Backsmack didn’t count, second melee didn’t drop shields until after he died, died to enemy’s 2 melees no issue though

Also I saw videos of people firing SPNKrs and the rockets just vanishing instead of hitting

I’ve personally seen these. I’ve personally been one punched from the front many times, even recently in LSS. I’ve dumped all my ammo into people that lived, but they turn around and pop me dead in a second as I reload

Desync is super real, especially thanks to 100+ms ping being super common for many people

I don’t think they withheld anything, more like they don’t have it ready at all.

I mean if you consider LSS as “ready to deploy” content, I’ll tell you frankly it’s not. It’s poorly balanced, hosted on a poorly balanced map with a badly designed Event tagged onto it.

343 seriously need to do flights. We need to test this stuff cos their QA don’t know better. But all that may be inconsequential anyway cos 343’s higher ups have a track record of explicitly ignoring player feedback, even those of pro players they brought in.

Remember that H5 interview where it was revealed that they made changes anyway when their inhouse team told them not to?

I agree with you when it comes to gamemodes content, but when it comes to cosmetics, there is A LOT that was ready at launch that was never put into shop rotation.

Winter Contingency for example has a few christmas items that were left out last Christmas Season. Guess what will come next christmas as “new items”?

  • Neosie - Snowman Helmet for Mark VII
  • Blixem - Rudolf Antlers Helmet Attachment for Mark VII
  • Pileus - Santa Hat Helmet Attachment for the Mark VII
  • Holiday Cheer - Christmas Ornament Grenades akin to the “Psycheapple” chest for Mark VII.
  • Candy Killer - Candy Cane combat knife chest attachment for Mark VII

And if you go and look at the Yoroi armor core right now, there is now an extra pair of shoulders and a wrist attachment that were NEVER featured in the shops, challenge rewards, or the event pass. And yet, these new items state that they were released in Season 1 but we never saw them.

Cosmetic items that are finished are being withheld. When we see Fractures Tenrai return, we will see new items added to the Yoroi armor core as well as “new items” that were already there but weren’t given to us because either the event pass would be too long OR they couldn’t think of a way to sell it in an item bundle without overstocking the shop’s limited slots of items.

EDIT -
And if you played the MCC Insider periods, you saw use of armor pieces that have yet to be put into the game. There are even promo screenshots showcasing the CQB helmet and the Mark V helmet being worn for the Mark V Bravo armor core, and YET those aren’t available yet for use either in Season 1 or Season 2.

Lots of armor effects missing too. Still no flags or wings for your back. Most of these should come this year though. I saw the Dragon Shoulders are textured now
