There's almost no grit to the textures whatsoever

And it needs to change. It’s why it looks like Halo 5. Banished brutes looks like cheap action figures walking around. Guns are flat color and squeaky clean. Forerunner structures are that same signature Halo4/5 mirror finish. Some metallic wear, dirt, scratches, anything would make them look better. Fix that and people will be happier.

EDIT: Changed thread title so people understand I’m criticizing the texture and materials of objects and characters, not the classic artstyle. Have nothing but love for it.

This guy wants super hard core edgy halo reboot lol. It looks fine and will probably look better come release.

Actually, that guy wants textures and game models to not look like plastic toys purchased from Toys R Us (when it was still around). Nothing wrong with his valid concerns if you ask me…

“texture detail is edgy”

Get real dude lmao

I doubt artstyle is the problem here.

Vaild concerns also implies logic, like understanding development constraints and other circumstances like umm… Covid-19 and lastly its an older build. Check out the one minute trailer friend.

Hyper realistic grim remakes are a real thing and that was the joke.

Dude … stop blaming Covid … this game has been in development for 5 years … um I think the last year is quality control phase for all I care. Remember that Halo 2,3 Reach had 3 year development cycles.

You need to put the fanboy glasses away. This game demo and first showing was awful and just embarassing.

I agree. Blaming covid is absolutely pathetic. All I hear is excuses, I see very little results. This looks like Halo 5, but actually worse in some ways. I honestly might not get the game.

From what I’ve read this is an older build, and since they performed the demo on a live stream some visual fidelity was lost. If you look at some comparison videos between the demo and game-play trailers you can see a clear difference in the textures and lighting, they look much more finished, detailed, and grittier in the gameplay trailer. They also developed the Slipspace Engine from scratch for Halo Infinite which probably dominated most of that 5 year development. Typically locking in finished art assets and textures takes place in the final phases of development along with QA. I didn’t find the demo awful or embarrassing, it was a campaign demo, not necessarily the part of the game I’d get hyped for but to me it looked promising. Sorry that it disappointed you.

The one minute trailer wasn’t any better in my opinion.

First of all, Halo 2 was completely new graphics and engine compared to Halo 1 … and it was still 3 years development. Second, Halo 3 came to a new console … they also had to do some graphics overhaul and new mechanics… and still 3 years development. And Third … Halo Reach was an all new engine, new graphics and models, etc … and still took 3 years to develop.

Put away your fanboy glasses, this trailer and gameplay demo was a joke.

By all means, improve the textures and all. But you know what other game was said to have plastic looking player models and things that looked like toys? Halo 3. How quickly people forget.

Agree.
when you see Halo 2 Anniversary it’s the good art style with good texture.
We all agreed that Halo Wars 2 has a good art style but we all talked about the cinematic not the ingame flashy toys

Um … I have never heard that Halo 3 has a “toy” feeling. Go play Halo 3 campaign and look at the detail they placed on Master Chief’s armor … the scratches, worn down places, and tear in some areas. Look at the gun and weapon models and its the same thing.

Go to multiplayer and look at all the weapons, the details placed, and the armor even … and they had to lower fidelity in multiplayer … because they had to. Its a 13 year old game and still surprises me how good it looks.

Give me Aztec-style temples again! Delta Halo anyone?

Looks worse then halo 5 in my opinion… but yeah I agree the banished lack the grit they have in halo wars 2 cutscenes . I get they were cutscenes in halo wars and not actual gameplay but surely they didn’t have to go down the roblox route.

I have summed it up in better words actually. what is really off putting about the aesthetics. maybe consider a read

This is very true. I’m still in camp ‘H3 looks way too cartoony’ and that’s fine. Then again this community has a thing for long term memory loss.
I do feel the game could use a bit of tweaks graphically though. Maybe tone down the saturation a tiny bit, add some wear and tear. Bring it more in line with the first Slipspace trailer really.
