I can’t remember where, but in this book (Halo Encyclopedia: The Definitive Guide to the Halo Universe: DK Publishing, Buckell, Tobias: 9780756688691: Amazon.com: Books) it mentions a spartan being a mother.
Are we talking about Maria-062?
Er, actually, what are we even supposed to be discussing here?
Maria 062 retired from the Spartans to start a family, but that’s all of the information we got. This was from a comic where she tests the Mark VI Mjolnir before it is given to John 117.
And?
The spartans ability to reproduced was only supressed, but not completly taken away.
I wonder,do Marias child have advantages over normal humans, similar to the kids of members of the Orion project?

Both Spartans who retired out of the Spartan 2 program procreated (Randall and Maria), so I don’t think their ability to reproduce was suppressed. Rather my understanding is that their libido is suppressed to the point of non-existence for most of them (Spartan Black Team being the obvious exceptions).
Suppressed sexual drive is grouped under the risks heading, which is grouped with things like ‘total blindness’. It’s not guaranteed side effect.
It does lack a percentage chance of happening unlike other risks under that heading but…how do you even measure if it happened or not in kids?

It’s not confirmed that Maria had any children, all they said was she retired to start a family
And I thought Spartans couldn’t get pregnant…
I’m tired of people thinking “surprised sexual drive” means Spartans can’t have children. All that means is they are not encouraged to reproduce by chemicals in the brain. This still means they can reproduce just they feel no need to.

No their augmentations just suppressed their sexual drives as a side effect, but not completely erased the,

Thank you, some one that understands

Unlikely, since the Orion subjects were genetically modified, whereas S-IIs were only physically. Their DNA is still basically the same as a normal human, their physical stature has been changed though.

Maria-062 never had children, however Randall-037 did. So, they can have children and we do have record of it happening

Both,Randall and Maria had children.
While we see Randalls child in Nightfall, the comic where Maria appeared said she had children, even we dont see them.

I don’t want to be the bringer of bad news, however this is not true. While Maria-062 did have the intentions to start a family, there is no evidence of her doing so. If there is, I would be happy with a link.

Halo Graphic Novel page 68.
Lol, you guys.
Having a suppressed sexual drive shouldn’t be enough to keep you from having kids. You know, there are tons of reasons for having kids. Like, the desire to have a family and to experience motherhood in its entirety. To nurture life, and raise children, and love them and see them grow and guide them along while teaching them and caring for them.
Not to mention that having and raising kids is emotionally and physically fulfilling and one of the greatest endeavors you can have with a husband as an expression of your love for each other. etc etc.
There are as many reasons as there are mothers. Now if you told me that the Spartan program caused sterility, then ok, I would be alongside everyone questioning how the heck did she have kids. But outside of that, I think it would be just as natural as choosing not to have kids, for any Spartan that decides to retire.
