There should not even be a vote

(Note. I made this post in another thread as well, but decided that it needed a thread of it’s own in my eyes. It is not my intention to spam. If this is seen as such, I will gladly remove the other post if told to do so.)

Frankly, I don’t care what playlists get the TU any more. I don’t play them, personally. Firefight is really all I needed from ODST, and it’s gets me by in Reach.

HOWEVER. I do think this voting nonsense is pointless. Do we get to go out and vote? Sure. Should we have to? Absolutely not. And I’ll tell you why, with some help from BS Angel!

“We want to make it clear there will always be a way for you to experience Halo: Reach multiplayer with the original, non-TU settings in matchmaking. As we move forward, we’re constantly looking at ways to consolidate and update multiplayer. In fact, we’re still looking at ways of refining the Title Update player experience in Reach.”

Now let’s take a look at the current playlists that do not have a TU, that still feature “Halo” style (read : Slayer ) gameplay …

Oh. Gee. Just one. Team Slayer!

So if we are promised that Vanilla will stick around, why even bother voting on the LAST playlist that even has it? The only other playlists NOT to get the TU, are the niche playlists that either A. Can’t have the TU applied due to the style of the game type and weapons used (Infection, Grifball, Snipers) or B. Game types that might break even more with the TU applied (Firefight, Campaign, Invasion).

And if the vote passes for TU in Team Slayer, that leaves JUST and ONLY the niche playlists, and Invasion. So where is that Vanilla Reach experience we were all promised would always be around? Are we just supposed to stick with Invasion, and when ever we want to play Slayer, just go do it in that play list?

Perhaps the thing to do now, is what you guys did when the TU Beta Playlist was launched …

“343! We only have one play list to play the game we want to play. It’s no fair. We’re being PUNISHED because we want to play the game we want to play. Baaaaaaawwwww! Fix it now. We deserve more then one play list too!”

Not only that, should the TU be applied to Team Slayer, that will give the TU A :
4v4 Slayer Playlist.
5v5 Slayer Playlist.
4v4 Objective Playlist.

So let’s hope the other part of Angels statement holds true, and they consolidate the playlists while they are at it. You don’t need 2 Slayer playlists and an Objective playlist while Vanilla has nothing.

So, a proposed solution/playlist breakdown.

Competitive - Title Update : Squad TU (5v5, Slayer and Objective), Rumble Pit, Double Team, Multi-Team, Big Team Battle, MLG (with Arena ranking, merging the population of Arena and TU BETA)

Community : Squad Vanilla (5v5, Slayer and Objective), Living Dead, Team SWAT, Team Snipers, Invasion, Grifball, Action Sack.

Note the removal of Squad Slayer, Team Slayer and Team Objective due to the redundancy, and the merging of Arena and TU Beta into MLG due to low population. This frees up 5 more playlist slots, two of which are used for ‘Squad Vanilla’ and ‘Squad TU’. But that still leaves 3 more open spaces, maybe for bringing back a Vanilla BTB, or actually being able to KEEP the DLC playlist instead of having it dangled over our heads with a “Play it or else it goes bye bye!” attitude.

But, like I said. This is just my two cents. You guys waggle your DMRs at each other however you want. I’ll stick with Firefight.

It’s more than likely they will add a few Vanilla Style playlists that were/are core Halo: Reach playlists.

> It’s more than likely they will add a few Vanilla Style playlists that were/are core Halo: Reach playlists.

If what you mean, is after the two week voting period, there is still going to be some form of Vanilla Reach Team Slayer, 4v4-Armor-Lockin-Grenade-Spammin-Bloom-Havin and all that, then that STILL renders even having a vote utterly pointless.

“Hey guys, vote to make Team Slayer TU or not”
“…K”
Two weeks later
“Okay, so the results are in, and Team Slayer gets the TU. But since we said there will always be Vanilla Reach, Team Slayer is staying as it is in another playlist.”

“…wat”

Why not just add a playlist from the very start, and avoid all the pomp and drama?

Reach has a playlist cap and as of now, we are pretty much at that limit, probably one or two more playlists away from it.

As I said, its likely they will have a Vanilla Skirmish playlist, bit of Slayer & Objective in there, maybe one or two, one for Big Teamish & Smallish game.

They never said that they were going to keep a slayer playlist as vanilla. They said that there was always going to be a way for you to experience Halo: Reach multiplayer with the original, non-TU settings in matchmaking. They never said specifics. So they might change Squad Slayer into Vanilla Squad with objective mixed in too. But they never said for sure which playlist was going to stay vanilla.

I hope not, 5v5 Squad is one of the most competitive TU playlists in Reach, mainly due to its Armour Lock removal.

Again, this kind of drives my point home. If, in the end, playlists are going to be changed, altered, shuffled around, and smashed together so everyone gets what they want and is happy … why even have a vote? Especially in light of the fact that every other playlist that had the TU applied, just happened. No Vote. No “Hey guys, let us know what you think.” We were told what playlist was getting the TU and that was that.

So unless the goal of all this voting is just to have a result saying “Yes, you idiots, THIS is the majority, now shut up and get back to playing.” Is it really necessary?

You mean like they said they would? Why…that would be Fair!!! They can’t have that! jk

Seriously, they DID propose that Vanilla and TU would remain separate. I guess IMO it’s just a lesson of endurance and giving in to the “STOP BREAKING REACH” threads/PMs from the tantrum community.

They add playlists back and forth. Why would it be so hard to make:

Competitive:
As is

TU Settings:
Half to everything listed in Competitive but with TU

No. They’ll take in and out Firefight modes, DLC lists and so on.

I suppose, even though I don’t play in any of those lists any more, that is where my frustration is coming from. 343 obviously (well, HOPEFULLY) has some plan in the pipeline to make everyone happy. So they should just get on with it. And then focus fulbore on Halo 4.

> No. They’ll take in and out Firefight modes, DLC lists and so on.

And that is starting to be annoying as hell too. Firefight is fine. It was fine when it was Limited. And there SHOULD ALWAYS be a DLC playlist available, if they have no intention of making DLC a requirement. Not enough of the player base bought the maps to realistically say “If you just play matchmaking, you’ll be matched a lot more”.

And now, after looking through the ‘voting result’ threads. It seems that more often then not, either TU comes up in both slots, or Vanilla comes up in both slots. Instead of the maps being the same, with different game types, the exact opposite has happened. This alone is just one more reason to toss the vote in the garbage. It’s wholly un-needed AND the results will be screwy one way or the other.
