There should not be a penalty for quitting.

Now that join in progress is being implemented, I don’t see the need to be punished for leaving a game one simply is not enjoying. In the past, being down a player would usually make things harder for your team (or easier if that player was just a punching bag), but now with join in progress the loss-of-player disadvantage will effectively be rid of.

There are many reasons for a player to leave a game. The connection could be really laggy, making it frustrating. They could have really lousy teammates who are costing them the game, betraying each other, or feeding the other team kills. There could be cheaters, derankers, griefers, boosters, and AFKers. Or players may just simply not like the map and/or gametype (AR starts on Countdown anyone?). And any number of these may happen for a long streak of time, causing the player to become agitated and ‘rage quit’ games at the first sign of trouble.

And then there are of course players who must leave for real life situations. I know people who’ve had to quit to go the hospital. Others have had power outtages or ethernet cables pulled.

There are a multitude of legitimate reasons to quit a game, and now that there’s join in progress I don’t see the reason players should be penalized for it. Their spot will simply be replaced, and the game will carry on. After all, it works in CoD.

Well if the net code is as good as 343 say it is, then hopefully less people leaving due to lag.

Ya I completely agree, I mean when I play halo reach and all my team mates quit out because they’re getting spawn wrecked what should I do? I’m quessing if frankie decides to have these penalties in halo 4 then he would rather us try to fight a 1 or 4 or 1 on 8 depending on what playlist you play on.

I quit out my games in halo 3 and halo reach depending on the circumstances, Halo 3 you would just lose exp and I wouldn’t think it’s fair in most cases but in others I can completely agree with that system.

Join-in-progress is only going to be in select gametypes/ playlists. Quit penalties need to remain in the game.

I know. Another thing is that I personally feel that I shouldn’t be punished for the “devs” crappy servers. Whenever I get banned, it’s because I get lagged out of a match. But the idea of quitting because there’s better things to attend to for emergencies is a good enough reason too.

> Join-in-progress is only going to be in select gametypes/ playlists. Quit penalties need to remain in the game.

No they don’t. I am not going to finish a 1v4 game, nor will I sit in a lobby for 10 minutes waiting to play again. I’m not a child I don’t need a time out. When I leave I have a reason for leaving. Instead of waiting 10 minutes I go play another game. All the quit ban time out BS does is frustrate player and make them not want to play the game. You will NEVER stop people from quitting.

Here’s a way to bring back 1-50. Quit Rank. The more the quit the higher it goes. You get matched with similar ranks. It goes down over time without quitting.

We don’t know what/how many playlists will have join in progress. When you quit, you ruin the experience for others. Your laggy connection is unfortunate, but it doesn’t need to be other people’s problems. And besides, in Reach you had to show a pattern of quitting. You’d have to get lagged out of matches a lot to get quitbanned. So much so that MP would be no fun for a person with that connection anyhow.
A year or so ago when Bungie was bringing the banhammer down hard on quitters a lot people used the laggy connection excuse on the forums and then a moderator would post that persons game history revealing that the excuse was actually a lie and that person habitually quit/afk for credits. Out of the 1000 or more people who refuted these bans only 1 or 2 were telling the truth. Does anyone else remember this? It was actually quite comical. Anyhow, after that, everytime I hear the “laggy connection” excuse I’m not convinced.

Quitters and AFKers make the game suck.

A novel idea.

Wouldn’t really say that is a legitimate reason. Thats kind of like a child saying “I don’t like this game anymore!” and then storming off. Everything else is fine, just that ONE point.

There absolutely should be a penalty for quitting, unless we’re certain that there are more laggy matches than playable matches at any given time. There aren’t.

As far as join-in progress, I don’t want to join in on a game that is a 1v4 pubstomp. I’ll quit right the hell out. It was one of the biggest problems with Monday Night Combat, such that everybody who knew how to do so, simply manipulated the game so they could start their own lobby, and not even for the purpose of pulling host.

Will there be separate options for “join in-progress” and “start game,” or will 343 keep it as one option so that people might be forced to fill in matches where somebody quit out for some reason or other?

I’m not looking to keep joining in on nearly-completed matches where I might be lucky to finish with two kills.

I know, right? That’s like the quitter’s hell I mentioned here.

You had me at the title.

Most people don’t want to play something they don’t enjoy.

But to quit out solely because you may not like the map? Sorry, there is just something childish about that to me.

If you quit out you lose your game completion bonus, done.

The way I see it, this is 343’s way of fixing the quitting issue. Quitting has always been a problem for Halo, but a join-in-session system wasn’t really “Halo”.

But now, with this system , players can comfortably leave and other players won’t have to suffer from having one man gone for a whole game.

It’s a prominent feature in other FPS games, but we’ll just have to see how well it performs for Halo.

Wow, join in progress sounds great, can’t wait to be put into one of those games…

if you quit you should get banned the end…

And that’s why Reach’s population is so low.
